6 day stay in May for Honeymoon

Diego G on May 11, 2024

Alright this is gonna be the most honest review you’ve seen on here I’m gonna tell you the good and the bad! So just visited May 5th - May 11th and stayed in the Royal Club level. Upon arrival you go check in. You don’t check in at regular reception you check in at the Royal club special check in. It takes FOREVER. At least 20 mins and lots of papers to sign. Also everything is still done paper and pen it looks like. So all receipts are written it out takes forever. HOWEVER Odalys and the other lady there are phenomenal. They setup a private romantic beach dinner for me and wife and it was awesome. It’s nice not having to walk up to reception to check out and having them be so close to help. They also have a little library in case you forgot a book haha! Anyways…. Rooms are CLEAN. However they are muggy. If you’re someone who doesn’t do well in humidity this place is NOT for you. The rooms don’t really get below 73 degrees Fahrenheit and everything seems damp all the time like the bed. Besides that rooms are great with smart TVs and they’re clean. Fridge in rooms suck though the beers are not very cold. But the rooms are nice and spacious. We got room service for breakfast once. That was underwhelming there’s like two breakfast room service options. Basically eggs, bacon, and sausage. Thats it. They also forgot the bacon. But coffee was good. Now let’s talk food. Food was great! Loved the food options and all the restaurants to choose from. If you are royal club the little restaurant they have IS SO GOOD. Get the ribeye haha! Beach and pool: not much shade at all. No umbrellas on the beach and only a few at the pool. The beach is withering away. There’s not a whole bunch of sand left. However kayaking and snorkeling is provided and it’s really good. There’s not much seaweed on beach so that’s nice. However there’s only one drink runner and one little bar. So make sure to tip good if you want drinks ran up to you. The drinks here were fine. Besides the beers never getting to cold. Just regular resort type drinks. Anyways we came here for our honeymoon I enjoyed it. I’d come again but it’s not for everyone. Below are some things to keep in mind. - not a party resort. A much older calm crowd. Not much night life. Nobody jumping up and down to play pool volleyball etc… this is very much a rest and relax place. - they have a hard time making change. BRING SMALL BILLS. Expect cash for everything on the whole island including taxis. - location is good about 15 mins from downtown and then you can rent a moped or car and it’s about 15-20 mins to get to there other side of the island. If you have any questions send me a message that’s all I can think of right now.

What this quaint and quiet resort offers is an escape from the usual all inclusives. I traveled with my family (12 of us ranging in ages from 70 to baby) and all of us had a great time. The kids club provided constant entertainment for the children. My nephew lived his best life building sand castles, playing soccer on the beach, and making new friends. The on site pier allowed easy access for the scuba divers. It was great having the boat pick you up at your resort and needing no additional transportation. And the high availability of chairs gave us plenty of relaxation at the pool and beach. The staff was always kind and attentive to any needs and provided plenty of drinks poolside. The beach is easily accessible and right next to the pool to allow easy switching between the two. While there are minimal umbrellas at the pool and beach area, the beach has plenty of trees for shade. We opted to upgrade to the Royal level where we meet Hector, Odalys, and Alejandra. They provided excellent customer service and able to answer any and all questions to meet our needs. You do need to get reservations at the restaurants in the evening (take care of this early in your stay). Reservations are required because they provide a fine dining experience with courses being served and prepared. They waited until all members had finished a course before serving the next one. The breakfast and lunch buffets were good and had lots of options. Food service is not allowed at the pool due to wildlife in the area. If you’re looking for a party atmosphere with swim up bars and raging music, this is not the place for you. This is truly a rest and relaxing escape from reality. We loved that it was separate from any other resorts and couldn’t see any others. My family enjoyed the shows at night. There is a small nightclub where Jose Portillo was serving up the yummy drinks. We were able to play pool, listen to music, and dance. Portillo arranged a special happy birthday from the DJ for a member of my family. We all agreed we would stay here again!

Had a great time and the service was amazing! Yazmin Mac, Armando Moo, Claudia Vargas, Juan and Carlos Mena took excellent care of us at the Royal restaurant. The Mayan coffee was so good and to watch Juan make it was so great! Going back again!
