Average with some drawbacks.

MarioL3477 (Toronto, Canada) on Apr 19, 2026

In general our experience in this hotel was average with some drawbacks, basically with the conditions of the room and washroom. Additionally a little problem with one of the bar tenders of the beach area.

Awful! Day 7 and SICK from this resort.

Hellcat2021 (Austin, Texas) on Apr 18, 2026

I checked in Thursday April 9th. By April 11th at 10pm I was violently ill. VIOLENTLY! This was two hours after I ate a shrimp plate at the diner near building 20. Our room number was 2034. I saw the medics and the doctor at the resort. All of which provided 0 medications that helped with this awful illness. I am on day SEVEN of not being well. I have been to a US emergency room and have stool samples currently pending. My husband alerted the lady that sits in the office near building 20. Not one slight concern from anyone. Not one check up to ensure we were ok. Nothing! We couldn't get out of there soon enough. As we left the hotel Monday April 12th around 615am, I asked the hotel worker in the lobby if he could please get me a water. He declined and told me I had to walk back to our room to get water. I am beyond disgusted with this resort. We will NOT be back. Of all of the trips we've been to and stayed in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, we have NEVER EVER had an issue like this. My entire week of vacation has been ruined. I will also be giving a review on TripAdvisor and other travel sites.

Go and Have some fun and relax .. Mexican People are wonderful.

Tony99888 (Thunder Bay, Canada) on Apr 13, 2026

Check in was very long about an hour.. Thats ok.. No balcony in room.. oh well. Air Con was perfect and quiet and shut off when temp was reached. Beds were good. Difficult to book Al a Carte .. Food was good and something for everyone. Coffee machine broke down often and the regular poured was not good. If you want to go snorkeling as first how many people are on the boat. Too many are not good. We just book at the dive shop and a small boat came and only 10 on the boat... wonderful Chairs by the pool were difficult but after 3 day found out only a hotel towel reserves the chair.. nothing else. So in the morning at 10 am I walked down to the chairs and removed a book and running shoes and a old t shirt and put them aside and placed my towel on the chair... I did this every day never had a problem. Every day I had 2 chairs on the pool deck.. Some on said to me that they reserved this chair and I said sorry no towel was on this chair and they walked away... too bad so sad.. Just remove the object... someone acturally had an old wet t shirt they put on the night before... or a plastic pale... Ocean is wonderful and the guy who was attacked is doing well.. so swim during the day time only. Lifeguards are great.. Ask them to watch you. One last thing, if you are new to this Resort right after you get your room as you turn the corner on the left are people who try to help you, be warned they are stictly into a 32 thousand usd time share.. Do NOT under no circumstances show you around.. Once you are booked for a time share you are doomed.. trust me..This will ruin your holiday.. This is my and my wife independant review of this resort. Enjoy

Poor food, good luck trying to get a restauant reservation, but clean room

elneno e on Apr 13, 2026

poor buffet food, only really have two restaurants the others are buffets that they turn into restaurants, went to do some scuba diving but was disappointed by the large groups on the dive boat and as limited by the divers. would not recommend. i ended up charting from a scuba boat it was a hundred dollars cheaper per day and we did five days, man was awesome diving but then hotel wanted to charge a five dollar per person dock fee. they need to do better. rooms are good and clean and house keeping was good however room service take a long time. entertainment is poor and some acts are painful to watch some acts trying with American music and just but-chard songs and acts.

Great Diving Experience, But the Resort Needs Improvement

Paul F (Ada, Michigan) on Apr 12, 2026

We stayed at Occidental Cozumel for six nights and chose it mainly for two reasons: the on-site scuba diving operation and the availability of a larger room for our group. The diving experience was absolutely the highlight of our trip. The dive shop was professional and well organized, and our dive master was excellent — knowledgeable, calm, and safety-focused. All four of us truly enjoyed both dives. The resort itself is located in a beautiful, lush setting and feels small and quiet compared to other resorts in Mexico. The staff were generally kind and helpful. We especially appreciated the honesty of the housekeeping team when we accidentally left our passports and important documents in our first room — everything was returned to us. However, there were several issues that affected our overall experience. Due to weather, we missed one full day of our stay, and although we understand policies, no goodwill gesture or compensation was offered despite our six-night booking. The rooms feel outdated and in need of renovation. We experienced plumbing issues in both rooms (clogged shower and sink), although maintenance responded quickly each time. Food quality and variety were below expectations, and drink options were very limited. There is also not much to do beyond the pool and beach. While the resort offers some activities, overall entertainment felt limited for different age groups. In summary, this resort is a good choice if your main goal is diving, as that part is very well done. But in terms of accommodations, food, beverages, and overall amenities, there is definitely room for improvement.
