Expensive for what you're getting but still enjoyable

We stayed at the beginning of September and we were looking forward to using the pool and specifically the Monorail waterslides. We had no idea that there were so many renovations going on. The slides were closed and they’re still constructing the DVC Palette Pool. That entire zone is under scaffolding. There was also construction fabric around some of the Tangaroa Terrace building and Mickey’s wizard hat that serves as the entry area from Downtown Disney. The price of the hotel is insane so I wish were knew ahead of time. We were talking to someone at the front desk who happened to mention in conversation that we could use the pool at the Paradise Pier hotel. I’m glad we struck up a conversation with this person because we weren’t initially informed that this was a possibility. We spent half the day at that pool to use their water slide. Just bring your room key. It’s nice there but a lot smaller that the Disneyland Hotel pool. We stayed in the Adventure Tower and did wind up with a room with a view of the fireworks which was fantastic and a highlight of our stay. There is a dedicated TV channel which plays the music for the fireworks. The room was spacious and we loved the fireworks headboard with accompanying music. The bed was a little saggy but comfortable enough. I would imagine the pool area during the summer can get packed. We had to hunt down chairs and that was post-Labor Day. It’s nice to get food and beverage service poolside but there are food runners separate from the order takers. The food runners weren’t always sure what orders were going where and our food was given to a group nearby and then we were delivered something that we didn’t order. I wish they could come up with a better system - like a table or chair number to leave in view of the food runners. (Food & Beverage Management please take note. This would be so much better than waiting at your chair for workers cruising around the pool deck with brown shopping bags.) If we had to do this over, I probably would have booked the Grand Californian Hotel unless they have construction going on as well. It doesn’t seem to be advertised so who knows. Overall we still had a lot of fun staying there. Each of the towers has distinct theming and we checked them all out. We loved the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad model in the lobby of the Frontier Tower and the pioneer Mickey landscaping outside. I’d like to go back at some point when everything is up and running. (FYI: There is a coffee shop open from 6am-4pm by Goofy’s Kitchen, a small shop with snacks inside the hotel (Fantasy Tower), as well as a quick service cafe in the Tangaroa Terrace building.)

Horrible hotel and customer service. The pool was under construction which we had booked an extra day to spend at the pool. They didn’t tell us at check in about the construction or that there was another pool available for our use (they told us this when I complained at check out and we’re not apologetic at all that no one had mentioned the brand new pool at the low budget hotel was available for our use). We booked a suite but there was no door between the main room where the kids were and the bedroom/bathroom which was the whole point of paying for a suite so that we can be up after the kids go to sleep. The carpet in the room was dirty and sticky. Overall miserable experience. Won’t be going back
