No air conditioning causing sweltering nights X 3 and poor meal service

VGadvice on Aug 08, 2022

Although we enjoyed the amenities (the pool service in particular) during the day and the meal service at lunch our 1st day, we had a very disappointing experience. My meal at the Orso Trattoria - with the limited fixed menu, my main course was served without protein. The server apologized and I had to wait 20 minutes for a new dish with the protein. The chef came to apologize for the oversight but by then, my husband had finished his main course - and he had to wait for me to finish my entire main course. There was NO discount for this significant oversight/delay/poor experience in the meal service. The next day, we ate at The Great Hall for dinner and when we checked in at the reception desk, we were told we could sit in the bar but we would have to wait 40 minutes to order our meal because the kitchen was backed up. We decided to sit down and the server was all confused saying we could order immediately and checked in with the reception desk. He came back as said that 'we were confused and it only applied if we were waiting for a table.' We were adamant that this was NOT what was said to us. So we ordered our meals and then the woman from the reception desk came over about 15 minutes later and said we could now order our meals. We were shocked at the poor coordination and the customer blaming approach. Finally, the meat that I ordered was rare, not medium rare and again, had to go back to the kitchen. Another long wait for the meal that I ordered. I have stayed/dined at the Jasper Lodge and several other Fairmont's across the nation - and both dinners were below average experiences. Finally, I want to reiterate that spending >$700 per night in a hotel and having to sleep in a room that was >33 degrees Celsius 3 nights in a row is unacceptable. I have no words for how upsetting this experience was - not getting a good night sleep on a 3-week tour where we specifically booked our stay at the Lodge for R&R and some decadence. When I was checking out, I shared ONLY the experience about the sleeping and was offered a 25% discount - making our stays >$525 per night. Although I appreciated that - $175 per night cannot replace the limited to no sleep for 3 consecutive nights at a Fairmont hotel where one should expect a 9-10/10 experience. I have enjoyed staying at Fairmont's in 5 provinces across Canada and I know that we are coming out of a pandemic, but the less than ideal service/server's experience and the lack of empathy and/or solutions for the sweltering nights does not meet the Fairmont standard or brand. I am deeply disappointed with the investment we made in that 3 night stay and our poor experiences of quality in terms of food service and room temperature. Especially when NO housekeeping services were available for the 3 nights. I really think that the Jasper Lodge needs to re-think it's business model when charging such extremely high rates. I would like further consideration and an apology for this disappointing stay.

Jasper is beautiful but this hotel is NOT Fairmont level

olivewax (Baltimore, Maryland) on Aug 08, 2022

Jasper CA is an incredible place to visit but I was very dissatisfied with the caliber of the Fairmont room we were provided. We had three rooms and they were frankly were depressing. The staff were for the most part exceptional - very friendly - and the golf course really fun. But the rooms were rather a disgrace. If you have more than one room, good to inquire about the cabins which have been renovated. Again - the surrounding beauty very nice -- hotel rooms are the issue. (So if you stay there, best to be out of the room the whole time.) Staffing issues so no cleaning - offered $50 credit/per night per room.
