Incredible service, great location

We had a fantastic experience at the Alohilani last week. Although the friendly service was beyond compare, I have to admit that being upgraded to have access to the Longboard club was a big part of the positive experience. The breakfast every morning was nice, but having the option to get some drinks and dinner in the evening was an unexpected benefit when we weren’t interested in venturing out into Waikiki. We definitely prefer being at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki. It’s a little quieter, with more locals than tourists and the zoo and the aquarium are close by. The hotel is showing its age in the tower we were in (closer to the beach) but our view of the ocean was amazing. I would definitely consider the Alohilani the next time we return to Honolulu.
Great Location/Tiny Bathrooms

Great location & facilities. We had 2 Oceanfront rooms 822 & 823, which were great except the bathrooms were TINY & no baths in Oceanfront rooms we had which would be handy if you are traveling with children. You couldn't shut the door without squeezing yourself between the toilet & vanity, which was really disappointing as the room could accommodate up to 4 people but with a bathroom that small it would be really hard. The pool is lovely but you do have to pay to use the lounges in the water as well as the fire pits, which was disappointing. The private daybeds also require hiring as well as a minimum of $100 USD spent on Food/Drinks. None of them were hired as far as we could see when we were at the pool so they would be better off lowering the prices & get some money for them instead of nothing at all. The lounges in the pool should be free, they are at most other resorts. The tennis courts, basketball & batting cages are not useable at night as there are no lights on. The staff were wonderful & Christmas decorations beautiful.
Good stay, not 5-star

The hotel: Beautiful lobby & aquarium. Love that the hotel is connected to the ABC store, and you can easily access the street in front of the beach. The location was perfect. Lots of stores, restaurants, coffee shops etc just outside the hotel. No complaints there. The pool deck was very nice. The pool water temp could be warmer. The room: My sister and I shared a 2-bed room. We were on the 38th floor with a beautiful view of Diamond head and the ocean. The bathroom is TINY. This is NOT a 5-star hotel bathroom. More like a 3 star hotel bathroom. It was not stocked with free items like Qtips, cotton balls, etc like 5 star hotels. The A/C was confusing. It was either too hot or too cold in the room. The A/C unit is next to one of the beds, so one person is too cold & the other is too hot. The cold air did not distribute well / evenly throughout the room. The door does not have good soundproofing. We were woken up in the middle of the night to people talking loudly in the hallway (they sounded drunk & loud). We could also hear street noise thru the patio door (even tho we were on the 38th floor). Service: It was fine. 4-star quality. The first full day- we didn’t get housekeeping because they came too late in the day when we were resting. Overall: Great location. 3.5-4 star quality. Definitely not a 5 star hotel.
Skip this overpriced hotel

So first the pros. Love the heated toilet seats and the soft beds. The pool is small but useable. Now the cons. Lots of noise from the street, despite a room on a high floor, hot tub is always overcrowded and often has small kids in using it as a playground, the pool area is constantly blasting music loudly, and best of all the hotel stopped all use of the pool area from noon yesterday due to a private party but still charged the full resort fee. Do yourself a favor and check into Moana surfrider instead.
