Well, we aren't at home in the snow... closer to a 3.75 than a 4

Currently at the tail end of our stay. I can say without going into every detail that it's been a good , not great stay. A few thoughts. We are in the Kauhale wing, with a view of grounds and ocean. We are above the laundry room, but that didn't factor in this week. First, the staff at the breakfast buffet and the staff that take care of our room are second to none. I've truly never encountered a friendlier bunch! They are completely and totally appreciated. Also, postives: The dual shower head is a nice feature in the spacious walk-in shower. The mini fridge has been very helpful, as is the coffee that is provided. The room is very clean overall. The grounds are kept very nicely. Some negative: By FAR the worst - The sound of the car tires squealing on the surface of the parking deck because of whatever coating they use. We aren't talking about people speeding. I've driven 4 mph, and it does it every time. It has woken us all up daily, both in the early morning and at night. Maddening. Also, plan on music from Maui Brewing to hit your rooms, even with the slider closed. The beds are quite firm, and my back is not happy. I'm sure many prefer a firm bed, so that's just a personal preference. The pool is not heated, so Winter and Spring visitors take note. Kids don't seem to have a problem with the temps. Adults do. My sister's shoes disappeared from the pool area after she hurried to move for mid day Hula entertainment that was setting up near them. They were never turned in. It's unfortunate to have shoes stolen. Lastly, but NOT the fault of the property, there is very tall ( 6ft or more) straight drop off before you hit the ocean for a few hundred yards in each direction on Kaanapli Beach right now. I assume it was from a recent storm, but you literally can't get up and down to the water. I can't believe I will be here all week and never put my feet in the ocean because I've recently had a serious knee issue. I could slide down on my backside but would not be able to climb back up. Overall- it has been a pretty nice stay at a resort that is far cheaper than others nearby. However, without hearing they figured out that horrific parking structure noise, I wouldn't consider a repeat stay.
Value and Convenience on Ka'anapali Beach

We stayed here for an adult family vacation for 7 nights in January 2025 before transferring to a higher-end resort in Wailea for the remainder of our vacation. We all agreed that we preferred this property and location. We researched reviews and pricing of various properties in Maui for months before selecting the Outrigger Ka'anapali Beach Resort. I happened to find a great mobile-only rate in September and was able to book a Premium Oceanfront room for less than half the rate of rooms in other KB hotels with no ocean views. My balcony (so close to the shoreline) offered unobstructed views of the ocean, Lana'i, Black Rock, Moloka'i, and WHALES! We stayed in the updated Papaku wing and even the partial ocean view rooms did not disappoint because the ones facing the courtyard and pool provided lovely views. The hotel was easy to navigate (there is a 4th floor bridge to the parking garage) and it was a pleasure to walk through the grounds each morning with the scent of plumeria and many other tropical plants in the air. So quiet and peaceful, it was like walking through a botanical garden. The hotel location was also very convenient as it was just a short walk on the adjacent beach trail to Whalers Village in one direction, with its wide range of shopping and dining choices (shout out to Island Vintage Coffee, Nikki's Pizza, Joey's Kitchen, Monkeypod Kitchen), and Black Rock in the other direction. We had great snorkeling experiences here with a rainbow of fish and TURTLES right off the shore. See the daily Snorkel Report from The Snorkel Store to check conditions before heading out. Our spacious, attractive rooms provided everything we needed and were clean and comfortable, decorated with Hawaiian cultural objects. Staff was very friendly and when we checked out, Auntie presented us with kukui nut leis and a lesson in Hawaii's cultural diversity. We are so glad we stayed here!
Average Hotel in the Best Location

Absolutely a wonderful location - no question. On the beach with beautiful views of two other islands. A place where people come to watch the sunsets and see whales. Stunning. The hotel/motel is average and in the middle of remodeling which I've been listening to all morning. I mentioned motel because the doors into a third of the rooms is from outside. In January, most rooms have no direct sun, so people that paid for ground floor rooms with patios and recliners are in the shade all day. The $30 per person buffet breakfast is comparable to what is offered at a Hampton Inn for free and served in something that resembles a high school cafeteria. The $25/day parking may or may not included in your rate is convenient but the spaces are tight so you may want to consider the rental car insurance. The restaurant is the Maui Brewing company's with typical prices and a limited menu which cannot be charged to your room. The Teralani boats pick up passengers here for tours which is super conveinent. The down side is - they park their boats here to wash them and leave their engines running while parked on the beach - so you get an obstructed view and exhaust whenever they decide to stop by. Again, the location can't be beat and it is listed as a 3 star hotel which is accurate.
Hoping OUTRIGGER understands the uniqueness of Ka'anapali Beach Hotel

The Ka'anapali Beach Resort is our favorite place to stay in Maui. Our stay this time was different but still enjoyable. We booked through Capital One Travel a Garden View room. When we arrived we asked about upgrading. We were told there was one Ocean View room available for an extra $75 per night. We agreed to the extra cost. Unfortunately, it wasn't disclosed that there was construction/remodeling happening since OUTRIGGER had taken over operations. Construction noise would begin at 6:00am. The elevators nearest our room were often locked off for construction crews. Our room door was so badly sealed that, when the wind blew, it sounded like sirens going off, for hours. We brought our concerns to the staff at check out and they did refund half of our upgrade cost but our stay was somewhat less enjoyable than we had anticipated. We also were disappointed that the pool bar was not open most days maybe because of staff shortages and the pool restrooms were often locked making us have to use the lobby restrooms or the restaurant. This was our first stay since OUTRIGGER took over. We hope our next stay will find these issues resolved or we might need to look elsewhere.
Wonderful Resort!

We first stayed here 25 years ago to celebrate our 5th anniversary and returned sans family to belatedly celebrate our 30th. We stayed in an oceanfront room in the renovated Papaku wing and we loved it. Rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. Cant beat whale watching from the lanai! Outrigger provided nice metal refillable water containers to use with the water filling stations located around the resort to help discourage the need to buy bottled water. Nice touch! In room coffee was much appreciated. All staff encountered were super friendly and helpful. Be sure to take advantage of the many cultural offerings. The departure lei ceremony was especially moving. We loved the addition of Maui Brewing Company with live music. Parking is super convenient for the south and east wings since you van park on your floor and just walk same level to your room. Super convenient location to walk to all the attractions in Ka’anapali. West wing is currently under renovation, but was not a negative impact to our stay. They will supposedly be adding another pool to the grounds in the future, so you may want to check on that prior to booking as it might be more of a negative impact on the stay. If not renting a condo with family, this is where we’ll stay as a couple on future visits as long as they maintain what makes it so special.
