Past its prime

Lorrin K (Honolulu, Hawaii) on Aug 01, 2026

40 minute wait in line to check in. I have never waited so long and most of the time only two of the four terminals were manned. A big door to the right of the Front Desk reads “Executive Office,” but management in there apparently have no video or awareness to supply surge capacity, despite the conference being a known event. The bracelet keys are supposed to unlock the parking gate but were broken. Lamp in room didn’t function despite checking plug and wall switches. This property’s best days may be behind it.

Nice but not 5 star

monomo215 (Seattle, Washington) on Jul 31, 2026

I had high expectations for a 5 star hotel after staying a Kona Village for the last 2 years. Definitely not 5 star. I felt like most of the staff was in yawn mode. They couldn’t care less about customer service except for the coffee shop. They were great. Grounds were fine but not pristine. No snacks in the room for late night arrivals. I’m going back to Kona Village.

Fading Star

markwY4783QE (Portola Valley) on Jul 26, 2026

Great location on beach along South Kohala coast. The weather is usually dry due to the high volcanic mountains. Service is very friendly. Rooms are in need of new furnishings-as are common areas- not quite shabby but approaching it. Showers are substandard compared with the neighboring Mauna Lani hotel. Breakfast area patio is plagued with sparrows and Mynas. Eating inside is better and less crowded. Breakfast good is typical for this class of hotel. Espresso drinks are better if purchased at Browns Cafe and Market across the lawn from the breakfast area. The food at the hotel is quite expensive-Browns is overpriced m$75/person with no dessert or alcohol. The on the beach cafe is a pleasant area. Halani has good Mediterranean food and average tab around $50 pp. Car valet service was good but much slower than the Mauna Lani. Our rental car key was broken by an employee and they gave us a taped key with a piece missing—an unwanted hassle with no accommodation for it.

The Perfect Big Island Escape

601lynno (Denver, Colorado) on Jul 20, 2026

We had a wonderful 3-night stay at the Fairmont Orchid and are already looking forward to returning - next time for an even longer visit! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed and valued. We were greeted with beautiful leis, and later that day a thoughtful dessert plate was delivered to our room. As ALL – Accor members, we were incredibly grateful for the complimentary room upgrade to a beautiful ocean view room. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with a very comfortable bed, a large bathroom featuring both a shower and soaking tub, high-quality toiletries, and even a clothing steamer, which was a great amenity. Housekeeping was prompt and thorough, and we especially appreciated the evening turndown service. One of our favorite parts of the stay was relaxing in the hot tub after dinner or taking an evening swim in the pool - it was such a peaceful way to end each day. Breakfast at Orchid Court was excellent, with a plentiful buffet and a made-to-order omelet station. We also had dinner at Brown's Beach House at sunset, and it was one of the most memorable meals of our entire Hawaii trip. The combination of outstanding food, exceptional service, and the oceanfront setting made for an unforgettable evening. Overall, the Fairmont Orchid exceeded our expectations with its warm hospitality, beautiful grounds, and thoughtful touches. We can't wait to come back!

Loved our Stay!!

Colleen T (Palos Verdes Estates, California) on Jul 16, 2026

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely hotel. Truly a luxury experience. Location is great, close to Waikoloa for restaurants and shopping. The food is exceptional at the hotel and staff goes above and beyond to help. We were upgraded to an ocean front view room, which was amazing. If it is in your price range, the view is worth it. We had dinner at their fine dining restaurant, which has outdoor seating on the waterfront. We watched as the sun went down while we ate and sipped delicious cocktails and it made for a magical evening. The pool is very large, and there are small secluded areas scattered throughout the lush, tropical landscaping. We loved this hotel and highly recommend you try it too!
