The resort is nice and the staff are wonderful, but it is not a Five Star facility. We stayed in one of the resorts original four buildings. It was at best an average hotel room. There were two sinks in the bathroom with lighted mirrors over ech sink, except the lighting behind one mirror was out. The table holding the sinks was mirror lined. On several of the pieces of mirror, the mirror backing was missing. Neither of these are a big deal, but they are not five star. One of the shower stands where you can rinse you and your feet off after coming up from the beach was not working. Sections of the deck surrounding the main pool are in serious need of replacement. Also, the lighting along the edge of the deck is falling off in numerous places. They boast about their gourmet restaurants. The only problem is the longer term stay guests who were there before you have already book all of the slots except those at 9:00PM. So if you want to eat at a reasonable hour, you must walk all the way to the end of the property to eat in the Magnolia buffer. The buffer is at best, serves very average cafeteria food. It is also very noisy because of all of the families and large groups. There are newer buildings especially the last one where the "Prestige Members" club and exclusive beach are located. For the average traveler the resort is average at best. The grounds are well maintained and again the staff are fabulous.

Beautiful resort, poorly managed

I’ll try to give a fair assessment of the Azul Beach Resort. It is a beautiful facility and location. As long as there are no problems you will have a great vacation. The staff are wonderful and accommodating but the place lacks organization and management. The measure of an organization is how they handle problems and this is where Azul failed miserably. It started at arrival, we were quickly given our key but no explanation or orientation to the resort. When we arrived at our room (@ 8pm) the porter recognized there was a problem with the door lock. He said he would contact maintenance, we went to dinner and assumed someone would fix it while we were gone. After dinner we stopped at reception and asked about the lock, they had no record of a problem and reprogram our keys, assuming that was the problem. They said to call in that didn’t work. We got back to our room about 10:30, the door would not open. We called waited a half hour, unable to enter our room, nobody showed up. I went back to reception, this time someone came back to the room with me, tested the door lock, said it is broken “I’ll be right back”. A while later still no maintenance and we’re standing outside our room. I go down to the lobby again and ask where is maintenance. If they can’t fix it tonight, please give me a different room. Their comment was to come back tomorrow after 2pm, they might be able to find something. Like we are supposed to stand outside our room all night. Someone finally shows up after midnight, He was able to get the door open but the lock still did not work. He said he needed a tool; he’d be right back. At 1 am I go back to the front desk and tell them we’re done for the night and to have the door fixed in the morning. We piled furniture behind the door so we could sleep at night. The next morning, I go to the front desk and ask about the lock and nobody knew there was a problem, nothing was going to be done. They finally sent up a maintenance person. In 2 minutes, he fixed the door. I went down three times to speak to the manager and was always told they were not available, I left my phone number, we never called me back. I’m sorry this is so long winded but 12 hours to fix a door lock is ridiculous. When the porter realized the door wouldn’t lock properly, they should have immediately switched us to a different room. They have no plan or procedure how to deal with this problem, but the people at the front desk indicated it was common. I tried to talk to the manager, three times, who didn't have time to talk to me. I left my phone number, they couldn't be bothered to call me. I have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts. This facility and staff are lovely. Food is mediocre. Management is terrible.
