Read pros and cons before booking (seriously!)

Julie L on Nov 21, 2022

A very honest review with the PROS and CONS of this resort. Do you love Jamaica, it's lovely, hospitable people and local culture? We always have, and that's why we returned this year, but please read this review before booking this particular resort: PROS: 1. There are three staff members who are amazing! These three people alone are why this is a rating of poor, rather than terrible. They all went WAY out of their ways to make sure guests felt welcomed and comfortable. Jamaica at it's best with these three! a. Peter (greeted us on our arrival, works the night shift), Peter has a very pleasant personality, and a smile on his face every time you see him! My 14 year old lists Peter as one of his favorite memories from our vacation. b. Tina (you will find her in the restaurant), Tina will learn everyone in your party's name the first day, and will make you feel like you are the only guest at the resort! She is personable and attentive, and always has a welcoming smile and demeanor. c. Dawn (you will find her in the restaurant and around the resort), Dawn is a problem solver. She is always checking in to see how things are going, and on top of anything that isn't to your satisfaction. She will go out of her way to try to make things right. She is also very personable and warm. 2. Though the resort doesn't have a beach, it offers cliff jumping with ladders for a fun twist on ocean swimming that most anyone would enjoy. 3. The resort is not busy, so there were always plenty of chairs at the pool. 4. The rooms on the newer side of the resort are clean and nice (you have a mini fridge, but no blow dryer, shampoo or conditioner, so bring your own). 5. The french fries that can be ordered off the menu are good. CONS: 1. Not as safe feeling as a gated resort. This resort is on a busy street, with a lot of horn honking. 2. No beach 3. In need of structural and aesthetic updating. Older side still uses tanks on the roof to heat water for showers, so morning showers are not an option if you want hot water. Missing and broken walkway and pool deck tiles, and multiple height stair rises increase risk of falls. It is also very slippery when wet. 3. No delegated beach towels. We were told we needed to use our shower towels for the pool or go buy beach towels in town. Since they don't give you fresh shower towels, I would bring your own beach towels. 4. No onsite first aid station or first aid supplies (found this out when my son fell on the above noted stairs, and broke his toe). 5. STAY AWAY from the all inclusive meal/drink upgrade. There is only one restaurant on the resort for all meals. The buffet only offers 4 or 5 items at each meal, and the food is only really decent at breakfast (even so, you should stick with the omelets). The night we arrived, we were tired from travel, and the steamed vegetables, rice and pumpkin soup didn't appeal much to the kids. When we tried to order some french fries from the one bar downstairs from the restaurant, we were told that we had already eaten. That night, the same bar tender told my husband that they were all out of the "all inclusive beer" and that he could buy Red Stripe in the bottle if he wanted to have a second beer. This was our first rescue from Dawn who got the bartender to order our fries and got my husband a beer. We had a difficult time for the next two days to even get the bar tender to look at us when we tried to order anything. When she did, she made no attempts to conceal her disgust that she had to take our order. 6. The bar (where you will need to get anything outside of the 3 meals served in the restaurant) is supposed to open at 10:00. This just means the bartender gets there at 10, and starts setting the bottles up, etc. You will not be served until set up is complete. We were trying to get the kids a drink before our shuttle arrived to pick us up at 11:00 on our last day. It was 10:15 and the bartender wouldn't even look my way as I approached.... or when I stood there for 5 minutes before I finally had to say "excuse me". At this time she told me she wasn't done setting up. We ended up going to check out and return to the bar to get their drinks that we ended up having to bring on the shuttle with us. 7. The sister resort (also very small), Legends, does have a beach, but there are aggressive vendors trying to sell you things while you try to relax. It's not really worth the free shuttle over. If you want to experience the beach, head to Margaritaville instead, it's worth the cab fee. IN SUMMARY: Do yourself a favor and find a resort where you will leave with a smile on your face, feeling rested and wanting to book your next trip to Jamaica, instead of thinking about what you could have spent that money on instead.

Samsara resort.Negril Jamaica

luvmyhols2017 (Southport, United Kingdom) on Nov 19, 2022

This place is so peaceful. Fantastic views, room was good. a little dated on the old side which I preferred, it was comfortable & it was cleaned every day. It’s not good for children though, as it doesn’t have a beach although it does have 3 pools. It’s a diver’s & snorkelling paradise. Staff are absolutely lovely & will bend backwards for you. We always go room only & no all in as we don’t drink a great deal & don’t like being tied to the hotel. However all in customers were not happy, so we tried it one evening, not a great deal of food to choose from, it was not a buffet you could choose from. The chef put it on your plate, they had soup (hot water with a bit of veg floating in it), main was veg, rice, fish OR barbecue chicken, no chips. Sweet was a piece of fairy cake (2ins by 2ins if that) either chocolate or plain, no custard, no ice cream for kids. Apparently same thing near everyday. We was lucky we could choose where we wanted to eat. Would I go again, YES without a doubt. But room only again..
