Rude staff & hidden fee

Andrew L on Feb 06, 2024

Booked my reservation through my employers online booking agency. There was no reference to the bogus “destination charge” while booking. Checked-in and was told about the $75 fee for the first time. I kindly explained that I will not be using any of the services like the bike they provide for use in downtown Manhattan. Instead of accommodating me, the front desk was extremely rude and essentially told me I was dumb. I have status with Marriott and frequently pay the destination fee, especially when I’m traveling for personal reasons and when I know in advance there is a fee associated with the stay. This place really rubbed me the wrong way. Rude staff at the front desk.

A large room in a location convenient for walking to the office. No bottled water in the room, though you could purchase at the “mini bar” in the foyer. While the rooms look like they’ve had a recent makeover, the doors on the bathrooms look like they’ve been there forever - they’re sliding doors with the tiniest little catch to grip on to - I didn’t dare pull it all the way closed as I worried I might not get out again. One day housekeeping pushed it all the way back into its slot and I had to get engineering up to release it. Housekeeping also seemed to be good at flicking the alarm clock (which I wasn’t using)on. Fortunately it has been set for a time after I got up but before I left for the day else it would have annoyed my neighbours. I was given an interconnecting room which as a lone traveller I hate, but they were full. Breakfast is available in the bar downstairs but only from 7am. I would not choose to stay here for a non business trip.
