New York base hotel

Andrea M (Cannock, United Kingdom) on Jul 19, 2024

This hotel was a good base for sightseeing in New York. Times Square was about a mile walk. Rooms were cleaned daily. Our only dampener was we booked 2 double queens and ended up with a queen size bed which was not what we booked. Management told us to take up with the travel agent and they could only change our room part way through the week’s break so we made do as that’s what us British do. The hotel does a luggage service if needed. I have stayed in New York several times and would not choose to stay here again.

Memorable front of house staff at the Westgate! I can't wait to return.

I just got back from a trip to NYC and it was such a pleasure staying at the Westgate Grand Central NYC. From the first hello to the last good bye the staff were actually stellar. My experience was made amazing. But a honourable mention by the star of my stay was James at the front desk. No ask was too small for him; he made mine and my son's stay extra comfortable seeing to delivering an excellent service. A great asset to Westgate. Thank you James. The staff at the bar were always so friendly with my son and friendly making him laugh which I really appreciated as he's special needs. Stephen and front of house staff and doormen really made our stay lovely. Christina at the front desk was also amazing; thank you.

Really enjoyable stay and excellent base to explore NYC from

ehb1980 (Fife, Scotland) on Jul 10, 2024

The Westgate makes an excellent base to explore NYC. A short walk to Grand Central or walk straight along 42nd for 25mins and you’ll reach Times Square. Alternatively the no.7 subway will do the same. Our Queen room on the fifth floor, was clean and spacious. The bottles of water provided on arrival were welcomed and check in quick. As others have mentioned, there was a $100 deposit to be paid (which was quickly returned after checking out) and there is a resort tax of just over $40 to pay per night. In the room itself, the bed and pillows were comfortable and all the extras provided, ie shampoo, iron, hairdryer etc. Our view looked out onto the brick wall of the next building which wasn’t the best, but to be honest it didn’t bother us at all, as we spent little time in the room. We didn’t hear any noise from the neighbours and slept really well. The air-con was really appreciated, especially in July and the rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels provided. There are also plenty of cafes to eat at for breakfast around the hotel but they also have a selection of coffee/breakfast items for sale.

Very convenient to Grand Central Station, bus and subway

Jimbo1125 (Cape Coral, Florida) on Jul 08, 2024

Stayed 1 week. VERY close to Grand Central Station, bus and subway stops. Price included 2 bottles of water a day(very nice), even use of an umbrella if asked. Daily cleaning, bar and "snack" area. Staff was very pleasant. I would stay again when visiting NYC.
