Can't wait to stay at Westgate Grand Central again!

The best experience I've ever had at a hotel. My husband, 5 year old daughter, best friend, and I traveled to NYC for four nights for our daughter's 5th birthday. The room was a really good size, especially from what we'd seen of rooms in NYC, and it was very clean. Our room was on the 19th floor, right on 42nd and was very quiet, even with the window ajar. We'd hear ambulances, and on Sunday morning, the cheers of those watching the marathon, but overall, it was quiet. ALL of the staff was absolutely amazing. They all knew us as we came and went, opened doors, helped us get up the stairs with the stroller, and treated us each with kindness and respect. It had a family vibe for us that we loved, and I imagine if you'd like more of the upscale, dote on me vibe, they'd provide that as well. They are very perseptive and professional. On the evening of our daughter's birthday, her and I were waiting in the lobby for my husband to get back from the store, and four of the staff that were there at the front desk SANG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my daughter and the manager then brought out a box of fancy little sweets as a gift. There's a full bar downstairs, a little area where you can purchase snacks, and a dining area with a bunch of tables where you can bring food, read a book, do some work, or just hang out and relax after miles of walking. Never had to wait on elevators. Upon departure, 42nd and 2nd were both shut down due to the marathon, but Freddie got our luggage (4 large bags, a few small others, some shopping bags) to 41st and 2nd where our Uber picked us up. He helped load it all up, took a picture with our daughter, and said he loved us (which as a family, warmed out hearts immensely)! We will be back to NYC later this year, and we will stay here again, no question.
Pleasant New York Stay

Our stay at the Westgate New York Grand Central was very pleasant. The staff were very were welcoming and helpful. The hotel was quiet. Our room was large by New York standards. The hotel is in walking distance to several restaurants and shopping and the United Nations.
Away from all the madness but close enough to walk ??????

Would definitely recommend! Location was walking distance (10 minute) down the street from Grand Central Terminal, 20 minutes walk to Bryant Park, 30 minutes walk to Time Square. Plenty of sights to take in on the way. We felt in a safe area and away from all the madness of Time Square. Plenty of wine stores, CVS, Dunkin’s and stores all around and nearby. Rooms were all tastefully decorated in a modern design and had all toiletries supplied. Large flat screen tv. The beds were amazing!! So soft and comfortable, best beds I’ve slept in for a while… 2 blinds on windows so you have blackout. No noise from outside although very close proximity to other hotel room windows and close by apartment block, which is usual in New York, rooms were on the bigger size for New York. Ice bucket in room and ice machine on floors 8 and 14. Tea and coffee machine in room and free bottles of water whenever you wanted it. The resort tax for 4 nights was $160 non refundable and the security deposit is $100 refundable, make sure you’re prepared for this on check in. We didn’t have breakfast although we saw that breakfast was takeaway in a bag with coffee, so can’t comment on that. They let kids stay free in the bedding with the adults, no rollaways available, we had a Queen bed which was massive and plenty of room for 2 adults and 1 10 year old. Showers were powerful. Whole hotel is spotless. Special mention to our maid who cleaned 1215 and 1221, she was top notch and very attentive. The thing that sets this hotel aside from all others is the staff, all staff were very friendly and welcoming and would go above and beyond to make your stay more enjoyable. Any request was never too much for them…. They always had a smile! The reception staff, bar staff, cleaners all very friendly. Special mention to Freddie the Bell Captain and Luis the doorman nothing was ever too much for them….. proper New Yorkers and assets to the hotel. I think if Freddie would’ve been able to drop us back to JFK he would’ve! We felt at home at the Westgate Grand Central and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again next time I am lucky enough to be in New York. ??????
NYC valentines trip

We have just returned home to the UK after a 4 night / 5 day stay in the westgate grand central hotel. I just want to start off by saying the staff are great, especially the bell men. The hotel is clean and smells delightful. The hotel rooms are slightly dated furniture wise but they are clean, very squeaky bed which appears to look like a sofa that forms into a bed. The hotel has a Starbucks which is also great!! The hotel itself is very central, it’s a 15/20 minute walk from time square where there is local underground’s. All of your bigger attractions such as empire state, Statue of Liberty the hotel is no where near close to any of these attractions and will require an underground. The cab journey from JFK is around one hour long, costs 86 dollars there and 86 dollars back to the airport. Take into consideration rush hour traffic. I would highly recommend IHOP for breakfast and I would recommend avoiding juniors diner in time square and stardust in time square (the worst food of our holiday and the most expensive) On average it’s around 60 dollars for breakfast which is quite expensive but the city itself is self is VERY VERY expensive. Overall a great holiday, our first time in newyork been an amazing experience. Would 100% return to hotel cannot fault it, staff are great.
We hit a home run with this hotel!

The look, the location and the amenities of the Westgate Hotel Grand Central made our recent stay an absolute winner. It's right on 42nd street at second avenue. I thought it would be a very busy area. Instead, it was just perfect. Centrally located to tons of fine places to eat, to shopping, to transportation, to walking. If you like "looking up," the building structures were dynamic and beautiful. Duck in for a hot chocolate at Zuckers. Have breakfast or lunch at one of the two closest diners (Townhouse and Gemini; we hit both). Head a block north or five or six blocks south to a meal or a hangout. You can get everywhere, so easily. Even back to LaGuardia, whether by Uber or taxi we did both). The hotel is beautiful. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate. There's a wonderful seating area to meet friends and hang out, across from a "marketplace" and bar where you can have a cocktail or heat up one of the food options in the microwave. The room was perfect. Totally updated. Oodles of storage... drawers, closet with cubbies and hanging space. The nightstand had a refrigerator! (We didn't discove that until we were ready to depart.) Bathroom was totally updated and easy. Lush, thick towels and plenty of them. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion were upscale and plentiful. The dresser and desk were quite handsome with leather-look fronts drawers and vintage metal feet on the mid-century modern low chest. Plenty of charging stations for phones iPads, and hands-frees. Bed comfort was heavenly, like sleeping on a cloud. Our reservation let the hotel pick our room. When we checked in, we were told they had a king room available if we'd like (and we did). The staff went to great lengths to please. We'd intended to take Uber to the airport, and it was suggested we might wish to take a taxi. Chafik said he would be happy to get us a cab and a reputable ride. We went with that and it was perfect. Even a little cheaper than Uber would've been. My companion lost one of her favorite gloves and thought it might've been left in our room, or dropped in the lobby somewhere. We'd already checked out and checked our luggage to go to lunch. When we got back to hotel, Chafik said he'd gone up to our room to check for the glove (not there). Just going the extra mile was very special. (The companion then thought it might've been dropped/left at the bagel place up the street. That was correct and I retrieved.) Each time we entered or exited the hotel, the doorman opened the side door for us, or started the revolving door if we were headed that way. Staff was just wonderful. The room was comfortable, the bed was a great respite for hard-walking days. The hotel is centrally located, near Grand Central, and near the UN. In the middle of so many restaurants, stores. Second Avenue, First Avenue are a delight to walk along on the fashionable East side of manhattan in the East 30s and 40s. I'd love to stay at the Westgate ... again and again.
