Good location for strong walkers

kst00Visit (Castro Valley, California) on Nov 26, 2024

The walkable location is really the reason to choose this Holiday Inn. Front desk staff was so friendly at 11:00pm when we rolled in. We chose the Pirates one bedroom suite so that my older teen could take the sofa bed and my younger teen slept in the queen next to the adults in the separate bedroom area. We did our best sharing the one bathroom with four people, and unfortunately there were no hooks at all in the room for our many towels. The lack of hooks by the sink for hand towels was my biggest criticism. Also the hallway carpets were loose and might present a safety hazard someday. Otherwise I recommend this hotel to save money. It’s extremely close to the Disneyland Hotel. You can walk to the cafe by Goofys kitchen and get your latte fix! We chose not to utilize the restaurant during our stay.

Beware of the Holiday Inn Anaheim. They gave away our room after we checked in!

Shannon L on Oct 14, 2024

I reserved a 2 queen room for the nights of October 10-13, 2024, a month in advance. There were 4 adults in our party. I have stayed here before beause of it's close proximity to the Disneyland Resort - walking distance. The morning of the 10th I received an email to do "early check-in", which I did as I knew it was a busy time of year. We arrived at 9:30pm on the 10th and were told that they did not have a room for us. There were several other families getting this same news. I was told there was a glitch in the system and the hotel was over booked. I was told they could put us in a King room but couldn't add 2 roll-aways, nor did they have 2 King rooms for us. So, I guess they expected 2 of us to sleep on the floor?! I asked if they would be able to accomodate us the 2nd night, but was told no, they didn't have a room for that night either. What? The staff told me they had made some calls to affiliate hotels and found us a room at the Residence Inn Anaheim Brea ( "a 15 minute drive away"). I was told there were no other available rooms closer to the Resort as it was as there was a convention happening. Luckily we had a car with us, as I'm not sure how this would have worked without one. The front desk staff told me that the Holiday Inn would pay for our stay and parking at the Residence Inn for the inconvenience. I even received a letter to take with me to the Residence Inn stating this. My party and I thought, well okay I guess that would be worth the inconvenience of being so far from the resort. So, we made the drive to Brea. Not a 15 minute drive, but a 25-30 minute drive. Grr. So now we will need to drive to a Disney Resort Parking lot and pay instead of walking to the resort. Grr. When we get to Brea the staff at the Residence Inn was extremely compassionate and kind regarding our situation. However, the staff at the Holiday Inn didn't tell them we had booked 2 queen beds and the Residence Inn didn't have 1 for the first night so we ended up in a King with pull out sofa sleeper. Not ideal, but better than the floor. The front desk at the Residence Inn (Bree) did tell me that they could move us the next day to a 2 queen room for the remainder of our stay. Whew! We finally got situated in our room around 10:45. The next day we were in the Disneyland park all day and I received a call from Bree stating that the Holiday Inn would only agree to pay for the 1st night of our stay. She had read the letter and thought they were paying for the whole stay as well. She had already called on my behalf to confirm this new information and spoke to the GM (Mr Kim). He told her 1 night only. She called me to make sure we still wanted to stay the remaining 2 nights at the Residence Inn and tell me I would be responsible for the payment. She encouraged me to call the GM at Holiday Inn myself because of the letter we had. He told me the same information. Only the 1st night, for the inconvenience. He told me I could come back, that they had a room, but I told him "no". I didn't trust it and I was now settled in at the Residence Inn. I mentioned that I now have to drive to the Disneyland Resort Parking and pay $35 each day and he offered I could drive to his hotel and park there for free. Why would I do that? It's not that close and would cost us even more time getting into the park. I declined the offer. Oh, and because they supposedly had a room the 2nd night for us they expected us to come back and were going to charge me a "no-show" fee. I flipped out and he agreed to cancel my reservation and he waived the no-show fee. Generous of him. So, it all worked out in the end, but I can't imagine how much more difficult, stressful and costly this would have been if we had Ubered to the hotel and then had to Uber to another hotel and then Uber back and forth to the parks for 2 days. I just can't believe a Holiday Inn would do this. I have been a Holiday Inn Rewards member for years. FYI - this particular Holiday Inn doesn't let you use points. I'm very upset about this whole experience and have decided that Marriott is now my go to Hotel Chain in the future. Side note - I had a bad experience at a Holiday Inn and Suites in Salem, Oregon a week before this trip. Holiday Inn is not what it once was. Beware of this hotel!
