Very nice hotel except for the sales sharks

Let me first say, that the hotel/resort is beautiful, clean, and friendly. They do have many extras: mini store (pricey), basketball/tennis court, multiple pools, grills, and mini restaurant in the property. Arrived there to be sent to the “Linx”, which is the sales intake reservation area. Now when booking this resort, I asked if I had to go through a sales meeting etc in order for me to take advantage of the solicited marketing I received in the mail. The reservation girl said “ No”, so I booked it. Anyways, I expressed at check in that I didn’t want to attend the meetings for a time share but she then told me that she would need to put me in a room that was in the far side of the resort ( the old rooms) but if I attend the meetings to just listen, they’ll give me $300 and a room in the “New” building. So I said, ok but really didn’t want to. I booked the meeting the day before we leave and my husband HAD to attend. They even put a hold on my card for $300 in case I didn’t attend the meeting. So up until our meeting, they ( sales rep) called and called (which I ignored) until we arrived. The front desk was shocked to see us there because they already charged my CC due to me not responding and thought I wasn’t coming. The sales rep was very nice and was very good at his sales pitch but what pissed me off is thus went on longer than the 90 MINUTES, time frame. I had park tickets to Disney and it was well into the afternoon so I was getting aggravated. So we decided to purchase because the shark was not letting go of his bite! Long story short: Got home, reviewed the papers we signed, found the CANCEL info and sent an email, wrote a letter to rescind our decision with both signatures within the 10 days, mailed it CERTIFIED and waited. Two weeks later, I got my $870 deposit back. Problem solved before we were doomed for life and stuck with this vacation deal. It wasn’t for us, but it is for some that do their homework. It could work for them, but not for me!
Dirty, Dated, and Disappointing
mrstreye (New York City, New York) on Nov 23, 2024
I am so confused by the high reviews. Inexpensive doesn’t mean bare minimum standards don’t apply. Check-in: rude and inefficient. There isn’t a good place to park your car while you check in, so my husband chose to run in while I switched to the driver’s seat and circled the lot. We weren’t even fully out of the car when an employee barked at us that there was no parking. My husband told her we weren’t parking, he was just hopping out. She proceeded to glare at him as he entered the building. Check-in then took far longer than most hotels, and the second my husband said we weren’t interested in the time share presentation, all smiles went away and everyone was rude. Additionally, despite us having had a rental crib and stroller delivered that was obviously too large to fit in any regular car, no one asked if we would need help transporting things to our room. The room: The only good thing about the room was that it was fairly spacious. It was dated, dark, and dirty; a bowl I pulled out of a cupboard had dried food remnants all over it. Our bedding had a large rip on one side of the comforter. Housekeeping only comes once a week on Fridays, and they didn’t bother to refill the toiletries that are bolted to the shower walls, so we ran out of body wash before our stay was over. For context on how dated the rooms are, halfway through our stay we were informed that our TVs would be switched out for new ones with streaming capabilities. Even true budget hotels have had streaming for a while, and the ones they put in can only get Netflix, not any other apps. The washer/dryer is the smallest I’ve seen in my life (as someone who has lived in Manhattan, world of tiny apartments and tinier washing machines), and as clothing I’ve washed many times without issue suddenly bled colors, I’m guessing their cold cycle isn’t actually cold. Whenever you use hot water, whether in the shower or kitchen sink, it smells like burning gas. The set up wasn’t great for kids (oversized furniture in a small room and not a lot of extra space means lots of extra bumps, lots of lamps due to lack of can ceiling lights means a lot of unavoidable tinkering). Amenities: The “heated” pool was colder than the air on a 71 degree day. The maintenance man they sent used a literal meat thermometer to gauge the water temp. The towels they provide are thinner than my kitchen rags, and are extremely rough. The grounds are decently tidy and maintained, but nothing special. Dining: We were frustrated that our toddler wouldn’t eat the chicken fingers. Then we tried them and understood; they were so tough it was difficult to bite through them. The bar near the pool has live music that might sound good if you’re drunk, but if you’re not, you just get to hear it ricocheting throughout your room with all the doors closed, accompanied by music that sounds like a person with no rhythm copying the Enchanted Tiki Room drums. I called the front desk to complain about the noise and was told the drumming sound wasn’t related to the bar entertainment, but it mysteriously stopped when the singing stopped. Service: Generally really bad. See above re: check-in. The employees seemed miserable, and if you asked anything of them, you got the bare minimum effort. The best was them aggressively knocking on our door like a cop ten minutes before checkout to remind us that we needed to check out. If you are worried people have forgotten about checking out, a ten minute warning isn’t going to do anything, so such an aggressive reminder at that point was unnecessary and annoying since all it did was slow us down. Location: Fine. It’s at least 20 minutes from the closest Disney parks (potentially farther depending on which park you’re going to) and close to an outlet mall. Not near any good restaurants. Overall: We would not recommend this hotel to anyone we know.
