My recent stay at the Marriott Shadow Ridge 1 - The Villages met my expectations for a great vacation and then some!

I recently spent 2 weeks at the Marriott Shadow Ridge 1 - The Villages! The accommodation at this resort was both spacious and comfortable, had great amenities, and offered an amazing view of the golf course! As a solo traveler, I appreciated how safe and secure I felt during my stay. I really enjoyed walking around the resort each day. The grounds are well maintained and the mountains are absolutely beautiful. I loved playing golf on the Shadow Ridge Golf Course - lovely course in excellent shape! The service at this resort was very good. The cleaning services I received were more than expected - they did a great job of keeping my room looking like I had just moved in. I want to make special mention of Vincent, one of the Shuttle operators, and Kathryn, one of the staff at the front desk - they were both very friendly and helpful, and made me feel comfortable during my stay! Also, Matt and Matt at the clubhouse were great, and Matt at Leadbetter's Academy made my stay especially enjoyable. Thanks Marriott for a great vacation!
Do not stay here

Do not stay here. I’ve been here a few hours and the service is TERRIBLE. I’m a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member and I asked for a late check out due to my work schedule. Not only would they not provide me with a 2pm checkout, but they wouldn’t provide me with a noon checkout. I need to checkout by 10am! That’s the earliest I’ve ever had to check out of a hotel!!!!! Second - there’s no hair dryer in the room. I’ve opened every drawer and cabinet. I don’t think I’ve stayed in even a Motel 6 in the last 25 years that doesn’t provide a hair dryer. I called and asked for one. 20 minutes later I called back. They said one had been delivered. Ummm….no, it had not. They then said it could take another hour. It’s 11pm. I have to wait until midnight for a hair dryer???
Safety Alert

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER stay at this resort. During our visit last week, someone tried to break into our unit which was on the ground floor. The break in sounded like a defused bomb and scared us to death. I immediately called the front desk from both my cell and house phone and was kept on hold for over 20 minutes. When I finally connected to the clerk, her reaction was totally casual as though I was missing an extra towel. I asked for security to which she asked, "Why?" Really, "Why?" Because for all I know there is an active shooter out there. 15-20 minutes later a security guard, Jose finally arrived, knocked on our door, entered and asked what we wanted. His response to the attempted break-in was, "Yeah, so what do you want me to do about it?" He clearly was high and reeked of pot. We told him to leave immediately and send his supervisor. The supervisor wasn't much help either. We were visiting friends who are vacation club owners. The following day they accompanied me to meet with Kate (Dir of Operations) about this horror. They, too had a laundry list of complaints mostly centered on the decrepit condition of their unit. Clearly, there's been deferred maintenance at this facility which has deteriorated significantly since a visit there last year. End result was Kate offered me 50% off our stay (BTW- I am Marriott Titanium - so a frequent visitor). At that point I was worn down and just wanted to leave the place asap so I accepted the offer - but such an event warranted my 3 days gratis. The staff acknowledged the lack of security, the staffing issues - who we refer to as the "kiddie corps," and the inexcusable stress we endured. (My profile specifies my upper level accommodation preference. When I checked in they claimed they were full and could only offer me this first floor unit). Curious, when we arrived at that unit our key card didn't work. Turned out the lock was broken. Could it be that our intruder is pays regular visits? Point here is that none of us want to feel unsafe on vacation, particularly at a Marriott Vacation Club facility. We are living in crazy enough times. So, when booking a visit to Palm Desert or the Palm Springs area, Stay anywhere but at Shadow Ridge!
First stay

This was our first stay at Marriott's Shadow Ridge. Our one night stay was very brief with a 4:00 pm check in with a 10:00 am check out. The staff was nice and the property offered activities that we just did not have time to experience. Maybe next time?
Very basic …no luxury

I usually stay at the Marriott Desert Springs which is the sister property in the area. There was no vacancy so I wanted to see if this was as comfortable and nice. No. It’s not. It seems like a beautiful place as you drive in. Inside the rooms you soon find it’s no better than any Best Western … it’s super basic. I only stayed one night. I’m glad about that. This is a place to sleep and take a shower. It’s not an extraordinary experience. I’m wondering if there are money problems. It kind of sags. I will definitely opt for a different choice. As with most budget hotels my mind wandered to whether it was clean. The price is way too high
