Great hotel! Stayed for 4 nights. Hotel was clean, pool wasn’t too crowded and the room was cozy with good air conditioning. Hotel is in a nice area away from the busy city. Great stay if you’re looking for a smaller resort feel with all the amenities. Pool bartenders Alfredo C. & Gerardo C. were absolutely amazing the whole week and kept surprising us with custom drinks!
Frustrating Wedding Experience

I have very mixed emotions about the Barcelo. We visited 10 years ago and had our wedding here on November 14th, bringing 47 guests with us and paying $10K USD for the premium chocolate sensation package. In the 3 days before the wedding multiple people (including me and the groom) got extremely sick in a way we have never experienced visiting Mexico. We aren’t sure what caused it but I wasn’t even able to attend my own bachelorette party because of it. And because multiple people were experiencing this we do think it was something at the hotel. It continued for many people for the entire week. Multiple rooms had broken showers or no hot water. Our room had broken lights and an electrical panel problem that caused an extremely loud and alarming buzzing noise. There was also a bartender named David that is the rudest employee I have ever met. He shut down the ONLY bar in the resort 15 minutes early even though it was full of people and overall seemed like he hated his job every time you asked for a drink. We were leaving $5USD or more as a tip too! So the tips weren’t the problem. On the wedding day there were a few issues (room didn’t get cleaned despite calling to have it cleaned, was told we needed to pay extra to have champagne brought to the room even though we were premium guests, floral bouquets were not at all what was requested, no bar at the wedding reception despite it being listed in what was included, guests needed to walk to the bar across the resort for a drink because the service was taking too long, was told to walk to the buffet to get a fork to eat our wedding cake) at the price of $10K USD I found this unacceptable. If you’re having a wedding here they don’t seem to care, we felt like just another number among all of the people at the hotel. When I brought the concerns to my wedding planner she told me she would get me some answers and I didn’t hear from her again the entire trip. There were a lot of disappointments and the staff (except for a few) seems very over worked and unhappy to be there. Not at all what it was like 10 years ago when we visited. Some positives: Oscar, Alfredo, and Gerardo were the best staff in the building. They had smiles on their faces and were always happy to talk or help however they could! During our second week at the resort we did not get sick and the food seemed to have improved. And the hotel it’s self is in a beautiful location with lush vegetation and ocean access. The wedding planning process was very thorough in the year leading up to the day, and the wedding day set up looked beautiful. And they do turtle releases every few days! However, im very disappointed that so many of our wedding guests were sick (some couldn’t even attend the wedding) and that the staff in the resort seems so unhappy and like they don’t care if you have a good time. Would I recommend a week long trip here? Sure. But I don’t think I would recommend paying so much for a wedding to have so many issues with the hotel.
