We’ve been coming to Costa Sur for six years. There are improvements that have taken place this year. Hopefully the next year will include even more improvements. The staff as always is FANTASTIC and the reason we enjoy our visits so much. Raul, Ernesto, Rafael and rest of the wait staff team always provide stellar service with their friendly warm smiles and attention to details. Yanet was our housekeeper this week and she was amazing!! Our room was always spotless and she added distinct personal touches that created a fun and inviting atmosphere for our stay. Juan and rest of the security team and bell staff are always smiling and welcoming as we come and go on our daily adventures. Always ready to hail you a taxi or to offer advice about what to see around town. Thank you all for a fabulous trip. We can’t wait to see you all in 2025.
Old / Misleading photos. Rooms are from the 50s . NOT a 5 start resort! It is a 2 star hotel with a pool and rocky beach

First, will start by saying that the attending staff on site is wonderful! The bellboy, the taxi stand staff, and the front desk are polite and kind. This property has the potential to be really amazing because of its location if the management company would update the rooms and the facilities!!!! This is where the positive ends and the negative starts! We checked in and at check in, after getting the keys were told that there is no electricity on site and it will be several hours to get it back; we went to the room and there was no WiFi, no AC , due to no electricity, which we hoped had to be temporary. What really got us was the condition of the room and the resort - Costa Sur Classico collection by Sonesta (same as Costa Sur Resort and Spa, no difference)- was advertised as a 5 star luxury hotel on the beach. The room was from the 50s or older; the dresser in the room had obnoxious smell due to being so old, the bed had an old, stained blanket, covered with "clean" sheets, the sheets smelled like they were not washed, the mattress was very old and beat up, there was a mattress topper to cover this up. The air-conditioning was a unit from 30 years ago at least; no safe but a big black box on the wall with no lock ( see photos attached). No coffee machine, old kitchenette with super old refrigerator and some old plates (never intended to use but if you plan on that be aware). The photos on the web site are very very misleading and inaccurate and/or old. I booked on purpose the more pricey room option so cannot imagine what the cheaper option would be. Next, there is basically no beach, it is many rocks and pebbles and very old broken chairs, however because of the rocks, there is wildlife that you can see from your balcony- the view is amazing and unbeatable if you can put up with the condition of the resort. Bottom line, we ended up leaving this hotel. We decided we cannot spend our brief vacation at a place which was in this condition and far from 5 stars and luxury. Sonesta should really tend to the false advertising with the old photos and beat up rooms and adjust the resort description to 2 stars hotel with a pool and restaurant. Honestly, I am a little surprised by some of the positive reviews and question the authenticity. Note that this is also a time share and an apart-hotel and looks like most of the positive review are from the actual owners and not real customers reviews.
