Nice but not a 5 star hotel by far
353darlenys on Jun 26, 2022
Hotel is very nice with beautiful gardens. Rooms are nice but bathrooms are dated. I’m 2 days into my 3 night stay and we have called several times regarding on of our rooms’ air conditioning not working properly and they have not gotten it fixed, so we have to keep connecting doors open to keep second room comfortable. Food is ok for the most part but breakfast buffet is horrible unless you get a fresh made omelette non of it is edible. Long story short I am disappointed but not all has been horrible. I would say hotel is closer to a 4 star than 5.
Disappointing
jtelo (Lisbon, Portugal) on Jun 14, 2022
This was my 5th time in the Caribbean and this was the most expensive hotel until today, so the expectations were higher. The hotel is very beautiful, with lots of details that you can discover during the holydays. The gardens are very well preserved and you can find plenty examples of the local fauna, were the pink flamingos stand out. We stayed in the standard room, which was spacious and had a good bed and a large balcony. Still, the room was outdated, specially in the bathroom. The rooms of the 4th and 7th block are superior and you need to pay for the upgrade. The hotel's picturesque beach lighthouse is in a bad shape, but It's still pretty because of the beautiful beach it sits on. The beach has a few rocks on both sides, so you can enjoy the warm and turquoise waters without any problem. From the surrounding hotels, this was the beast beach because it had a good portion of sand and less rocks. There are plenty of reclining chairs but, if you want one in the first rows, you must getup early. If you prefer the pool, there are many to choose from, and a large jacuzzi in the middle of them. The food is what you can expect in an all-inclusive hotel, with buffet and 4 thematic restaurants (French, Japanese, Mexican and Italian/stake house). But there are some problems. In the buffet, the refrigerators aren't strong enough to fight the high temperatures of the weather and the grills. This way, you'll find melted cheeses and a slightly warm fruits and salads. Most of the time the cooked food isn't appealing to the eyes, and the grilled ones seem always oily. Also, it's not difficult to find some over cooked food. Other problems include the lack of labeling, washed dishes still dirty and an overall lack of attention to details. This is a 5 star hotel, so the level of demand should be higher. Another big mistake is the lack of thematic days in the buffet, something that's pretty standard in other hotels. After a few days, I found myself eating the same things over and over again, because those were the least bad and because the variety was always the same. And don't make me talk about the beach snacks. The hamburgers and hot dogs meat is processed until a point it seems like cardboard. What saved us in some of those days were the big paellas they made on the beach. The French and Mexican restaurants were good, but the Italian/stake house could be much better. For Italian food you have the basic bolognese, spaghetti and lasagna. The stakes were OK. The quality of the drinks differs a lot from where you ordered them. In the bar close to the reception you can find the best ones. In the beach and pool bars some are OK others are something related to the drink you asked for. Overall, the beer is good. In a good initiative to reduce the environmental impact, all the guests have two 1lt glass bottles that you can fill in several places with filtered water. This way, the plastic bottles are no more. In your room you can also find a mini-fridge with free beer and sodas. The SPA massages are good. Afterwards we went to the SPA's private jacuzzi that is outdoors. The space is fine but it doesn't make sense that behind this potential zen space are the back of the beach snack bar, from were comes noise and were you can be observed by the staff. The animation team does its best to bring some activities to the guests, so you can expect the usual simple beach/pool games. At night you have the normal low budget shows. Related to the staff and their service, you can find a mix of everything. The check-in was a mess. We were forwarded to a room as soon as we arrived, were a staff member would put the bracelets in every guest, other would take our passport and another would project the hotel map PDF. At some point they were delivering the wrong passports to some persons and we got out of the room without knowing where our room was located. During our stay the staff never referred the advantages of using the Iberostar app, were we could see all the hotel activities, see and receive reminders of the restaurants reservations, chat with the hotel customer support to fix a problem in your room (I did that), book a massage in the SPA and much more. But for me, the worst was not feeling welcome by most of the staff. Most of them don't reply to a simple "Hola" or "Buenos dias" and treat you with indifference. Even in the checkout, instead of asking if we had a good stay, the employee was very rude and turned her back on us when she was fed up...
