Dangerous hotel: bathroom door shattered completely and it was like an explosion

ANDREINA R on Feb 24, 2024

Nickelodeon Resort Riviera Maya: Dangerous situation, please read before you go: Bathroom door shattered completely in the middle of the night and the hotel claimed no responsibility. A very bad injury could have happened to me or my kids. The pieces of glass went very far and one of the hotel member told me this is not the first time this happened. There is a big risk that a bad injury can occur, I would never take a chance again. Think before you go. On the last evening of our trip on Feb 9th, 2024 the main bathroom door shattered out of nowhere. The pieces of glass went as far as the balcony. It sounded like and explosion. I woke screaming and scared thinking something happened to my kids. The evening management showed up. We moved rooms (to a downgrade in the 3rd floor as I paid for an expensive 1st floor room).I wanted to moved hotels or return home but the flight change was expensive and the hotel was not going to pay for my family to stay somewhere else or the flight change. The sad part is that this is not the first time this happened, the evening management told me. It appears to be an engineering or material issue. I was not able to sleep and I am now sensitive to loud noises. My daughter was walking around the area of the “explosion”’a few minutes before this happened, which could have result in a very serious injury that I don’t want to even imagine. The next day as I was leaving, the morning management informed me that this things could happen and they were not responsible for it and if I wanted to make a complaint, to please right and email to customer service. I said, I need at the minimum a refund for the rooms downgrade and the extreme inconvenience of having to pack and move to another room at 1 AM. They said: sorry, nothing we can do about it. I have emailed customer service twice and all they have said is that they are reviewing the case. Two weeks later I have no answer. It is my responsibility to let other guest know of the danger of this bathroom doors and if they still decide to go, to at least be aware of it and ask management to check them and ensure an issue like this which can result in a unfortunate injury ( that by the way have to be handled in another country as most people come from other places than Mexico) for themselves or their loved ones. I have pictures and videos of the incident. Andreina Rivas Obenhaus Stay: Feb 7 to Feb 10, 2024 Reservation number: 747365

Good beach family vacation

Bianca G on Feb 23, 2024

I was super nervous going into this trip after reading some of the negative reviews. The good news - we still had a great vacation. That being said, you can tell this USED to be a great resort - now it's ok-ish. We had no issues with check-in; it was fast and efficient, and we quickly got to our swim-up suite - that was a highlight of the trip; the kids LOVED it. They thought it was so fun they could swim to the bar and order smoothies. They also loved the beach. This was their first proper beach vacation, and while yes, it was rough, they loved jumping around in the waves. The water park was a big miss though - my eight year old said it was boring. The food was ok for the most part - not terrible, but certainly not gourmet. The frustrating thing was that they tell you no reservations are required, and then some nights there were long waits for the restaurants - my 5 and 8 year old have a hard time waiting 45 minutes + for dinner, so we wound up at the buffet more than we would have preferred. It was fine, but just wish the sit-down options were more. Also, be prepared for "Prestige" members to cut the line. Also, our concierge never followed through on Spacewalker reservations, which again - not the end of the world, but shouldn't happen at a resort that bills itself as five-star and charges accordingly. Overall, it was a decent stay. My husband and I had a nice, relaxing time, and the kids didn't want to leave. Service is hit or miss, but as long as you're able to shrug off some smaller annoyances, it's ok. We're happy we went, but will never go back.
