Chic not so chic after all
XULACS1996 (Atlanta, Georgia) on Dec 06, 2024
Let me first get the positive out of the way because that's a much shorter list. The staff is great, very friendly and accommodating except one person I will discuss later. The food is pretty good and on par for all inclusive resorts. It's a relatively small resort, so everything is a short walk to get to. Now for the not so chic. The room we checked into didn't have soap, shampoo, or tissue. Not a big deal until you ask for it multiple times and it not sent until I go down to front desk late that night with a slightly annoyed voice. When you come in late the last thing you want is to go back out for anything. The AC was not cooling when we first got to the room (2601). The sent someone twice to reset it twice to no avail and unfortunately we did not sleep well the first night because the room was warm. The next day they move us to another room where the AC was working, but again the room was not properly stocked with towels and toiletries. Every night the fire alarm randomly goes off as well as several times during the day. Nothing worse than being startled out of your sleep by a blaring siren. This is a warm climate, yet they don't turn the AC on in the restaurants until they open, so if you have an early dinner you will likely be sweating eating your meal. The same for the night club. Lastly, each building has a concierge person to help with whatever you need. They also sign people up to take tour of resort to see if you are interested in purchasing membership. When we first got here we didn't know about the membership offering and the concierge asked me if I was interested in getting a massage. Of course I said sure. He said it was something they were offering some guests and set a time for my wife and I to go to the spa on Thursday as it was Tuesday afternoon at the time. We see the guy as we are walking around and he's being very nice and we are thinking nothing of it. When it came close to the time for our massage, my wife and I head to our room to change before going to the spa. We are now in a different building because of the room move so there is a different concierge. We tell him where we are going and he asked if we had our massage voucher. We say no, and shared that the other guy just told us he was offering us a massage as guests and didn't mention anything about doing a tour. I don't have a problem with them wanting people to do a tour with a sales person in exchange for a massage, but I don't like being lies to. The new concierge told us they are supposed to tell guest up front about the tour. Needless to say we didn't do the tour, but this was just another disappointing part of our stay. This resort is just okay and is definitely not a five star in my opinion. Maybe a 3.5 at best. Definitely needs some money investment for updates as it's past its prime. I would not come again to this resort as it is now, but it has potential.
Disappointing Experience at Royalton Chic Hotel
rosharn c on Dec 06, 2024
I recently stayed at the Royalton Chic Hotel from November 24th to 30th, and unfortunately, my experience was far below the standards expected from a five-star Marriott-affiliated property. I have previously stayed at the Royalton Bavaro and had an excellent time, but this visit was completely different. Upon arrival, the room was in an unacceptable state. There were visible stains—red and black—on the mirror, door, and bed. The welcome pillow was also covered in stains, and the bed linens were dirty. I complained to the front desk, and my room was changed three times, but each new room had similar cleanliness issues. It took housekeeping three attempts to finally provide a clean set of bed sheets in the fourth room I was assigned. In addition to the poor cleanliness, the rooms were not safe. Several plug switches were broken, posing a significant health and safety risk, and one of the mirrors was barely hanging on the wall. Such neglect is unacceptable in any hotel, let alone a five-star property. What made matters worse was the dismissive attitude of management. When I voiced my concerns, I was told that the five-star rating does not reflect cleanliness but instead the number of swimming pools the hotel has. This response was shocking and insulting to guests who expect high standards. Service was equally disappointing. For instance, I requested an iron, which took three hours and multiple follow-up calls to arrive, causing me to miss a booking. On another day, my room was not cleaned despite repeated assurances from staff. To top it off, some staff members were overheard laughing about the situation, which was incredibly unprofessional and frustrating. However, I do want to acknowledge the efforts of Kelvin, a waiter at breakfast, who was consistently helpful and friendly during my stay. His service was a rare bright spot in an otherwise disappointing experience. This trip was meant to celebrate a birthday, but the poor conditions, lack of care, and unprofessionalism completely ruined the occasion. I would not recommend this property unless significant improvements are made to cleanliness, safety, and overall service. For a Marriott-affiliated hotel, this experience was unacceptable.
