Great visit - would return!

Gene H (Denver, Colorado) on Dec 11, 2025

Great resort. Ignore the negative reviews. Exactly what you’d expect in the Caribbean. Food was great, except the buffet. Try the stripper pole at Excite if you must. Special shout to Billy Joel, our butler, Ruth at the Diamond club lounge, Carlos and German at the Diamond Club beach club. Definitely recommend!

Awful hotel!

Wenworld56 (Crawley, United Kingdom) on Dec 11, 2025

There are many issues with this hotel, and Tui should be ashamed to give this 5T’s! There was 10 of us all family, 6 Rooms, one Diamond. The food was inedible at Hunters, the food was cold and the meat was chewy, 7 of us had to send our meal back, and when they came back with it, it was still cold and inedible. The men’s toilets by the pool had urine in the urinal for 4 days, and the way they dealt with it, was to put a wet sign in front of it. They ran out of ice, baileys, rum, vodka, wine and prosecco The health and safety was a lot to be desired, with broken decking in the diamond club pool area. After 4 nights we were moved to the Royalton Punta Cana, which in comparison was a bit better. There was talk with other guests that the staff were unhappy as they didn’t know if their jobs were safe, how true that is I don’t know, but after discussing our issues over 4 days, with the general manager and guest service manager they offered to move us, and I am thankful for that. Since being home we have all reached out to Tui . I have stayed at The Royalton St Lucia, which was incredible.

First time at a Royalton chain

GtSpirit (Markham, Canada) on Dec 09, 2025

Our stay at this adult resort was wonderful. We were a group of 4. We wanted a relaxed atmosphere and got that. The layout of the resort was beautiful.  Dinner at the Tandoori Indian restaurant was great. Had really good buffet services from the waiters especially Estevan, Vincente and Gabriel. We enjoyed the breezy atmosphere at the buffet and selection of food was just right for us. Fish, plantains, breadfruit, cassava, sweet potatoes . The fresh juice was also good with choices of pineapples, dragon fruit, beets etc. There were a good variety of sumptuous desserts, ice cream included. The Insomnia cafe was great. We went there at least twice daily. They served Tea,coffee, desserts including ice-cream. I enjoyed the beach with the high waves. Take a tube or a floater if you like riding the waves. We enjoyed the entertainment and fire shows. The gymnastics on the rope above was really fantastic. Two large pools for everyone. We attended 2 foam pool party with good music and dancers during our stay. Good services provided on the beach for drinks.  I had the opportunity to meet and chat with the GM and found him to be very friendly and receptive to any feedback or ideas you may want to share. We would definitely visit again.

Not worth your money

Jacqui D on Dec 08, 2025

Not worth your money — this is not a 5-star hotel. This hotel is being sold in three months, which unfortunately explains the level of service and how run-down certain areas are. Transfer Coach transfer was smooth and I was the second drop-off. But when I collected my suitcase the driver said, “Just you, really?” As a solo female traveller this made me feel judged and uncomfortable. I’ve travelled solo to the Dominican before and never experienced this. Check-in I was made to feel unwelcome within the first five minutes. The receptionist said “I can’t check you in” with no explanation. No welcome drink, no direction, no basic hospitality. I immediately regretted choosing this hotel, especially knowing there’s a significantly better one only a mile away. No explanation of the key system — I was just told to sign paperwork and warned that if I lost something it was $150. Every question I asked was met with: “It’s on the app.” The app did not work. When the bell boy took me to my room, I asked for the key. He said, “It’s on your wrist.” None of this was explained at reception. I wasn’t informed which restaurants were open, how to book them, or where anything was. Again: “It’s on the app.” The next day it was other guests — not staff — who told me where towels were, how to book restaurants, and which places were good. Helpful, but not something I should rely on in a so-called 5-star hotel. App / Restaurant Booking The app simply didn’t work. Trying to book ahead? “Too early to book.” Trying on the day? “No availability.” Yet concierge could magically book the same restaurants the same day and days in advance. Completely inconsistent. Restaurants Food was okay, nothing exceptional — definitely not 5-star. Plus some people were getting upset stomachs. Issues included: 1.mains arriving while still eating starters 2.plates taken away before the whole table finished 3.inconsistent service Best meal by far was the Indian. The vindaloo was delicious — full flavour, not too spicy. The café had great coffee and friendly staff. The munchies bar food was fresh and well cooked. Rooms My room (third floor) was cleaned daily and the flowers on the bed were a lovely touch. However, guests on the ground floor experienced flooded rooms during heavy rain. Something to be aware of. Pool & Entertainment Foam parties were FUN — highlights of the week. But as soon as the music switched to gangster rap, the pool emptied. Every time. Overall music around the pool was: 1. far too loud - couldn't even hear own thoughts 2. HEAVILY dominated by gangster rap 3. non-rap songs always cut short and switched back to gangster rap Staff The staff at the pool and the café were the highlight of the hotel. Pool waitresses were consistently lovely, friendly, and attentive. They made genuinely good cocktails and checked in often without being pushy. Cafe staff were warm, welcoming, and made excellent coffee — it became one of the few reliable bright spots each day. Construction Rotten beams being removed from roofs with no safety barriers. Guests could easily be injured. Nobody wants to relax by the pool while listening to construction or watching roofs being stripped off. Recommendations for the Hotel Reception needs chairs or sofas, not a standing desk. The first impression feels cold and impersonal. Restaurant service needs major improvement. Guests were leaving the Italian saying, “Worst meal ever.” Music needs far more variety and appropriate volume. Staff communication and basic hospitality need serious training. Overall I would not recommend this hotel. The holiday itself was good, but only because of the people I met and the memories we made — not because of the hotel. For sunshine, yes, come to the Dominican. But there are hotels ten times better than this one. Royalton really needs to do better.

Holiday from hell

Summerwineholmfirth on Dec 07, 2025

The worst hotel we have ever stayed in. We are here for another 9 days and desperate to get home to the UK. The noise is horrendous. Beach area is dirty. No dress code. People go into dinner wearing baseball caps and flip flops. Woken for the last 4 nights at 3.00 a.m. people drunk and shouting. Room service knocking next door would you believe at 4.30 a.m. Every area of the hotel is thumping with loud music. Nowhere to relax with a drink. Food is awful we are both suffering with upset stomachs. Visited the Caribbean many times and were looking forward to this trip but wish we weren't here.
