As Good as it Gets

E1541VMbillm (Tampa, Florida) on Jul 20, 2024

Score: Housekeeping: 5 Stars / Hotel Staff, Overall: 4 Stars / Restaurant Food: 3-4 Stars / Restaurant Staff: 3 Stars All references to prices are in CDN Dollars. I was one of 20 family members who were in Quebec City for a week, early-July, and all of us stayed at Chateau Frontenac. Depending on your perspective, it may have been the worst week to be there or the best. For me, it was ok, though there were some restrictions about town due to the large music festival not far from the hotel. Lobby: Envision Grand Central Station in NYC. Offensively crowded / uncomfortable with tourists not staying in the hotel. Appreciatively, only guests can access elevators to the room levels. Concierge, Bellmen and Greeters at Auto Entrance excelled. Room: Deluxe City View - King. Large, well furnished, very comfortable room, excellent internet and cable TV, full closet, good bathroom - robes, thick cotton towels, rain shower, desk / workstation, attentive daily housekeeping and nightly turn-down service. Excellent bed and bedding. One of the best air conditioning systems I’ve experienced in a hotel. Restaurants: Bistro Le Sam: Dinner was okay, service inattentive. / Champlain: Tasting menu with wine paring (+/- $400 p.p.). Food: 5 star; kudos to Chef. Wine paring: for the price, disappointed with the selections. Service: If I stretch it, 3 stars. The disappointment of the evening. Staff was not properly trained to serve such a meal and paring. / Place Dufferin: Breakfast. Buffet. Wonderful views of the river from the table. Good and attentive service. But at approx. $50 p.p. I don’t think it was worth the money. / Cabanas: Adjacent to the Spa on the 6th floor, outdoor. We ate or drank something there each day; probably our favorite spot as it is restricted to hotel guests only. Good sandwiches, salads and beverages. Staff works hard; attentive and accommodating. You can sit at umbrella tables or rent a private cabana. Bar: Bar 1608: We visited the bar almost daily. Beautiful room; intimate; romantic; rich. Whatever liquor you are looking for and willing to pay for - it is here. Coffee: Starbucks: Located on ground level but I don’t drink coffee so did not patronize. Obviously, it’s popular. Location: For a first-timer in QC, the location was good. What’s not to like. Easy to walk upper and lower old QC. Boardwalk was nothing special, but nice. Close to many restaurants. Yes, it’s an area full of tourists, which is to be expected. If I make a return visit I’ll stay further away in a more “local” less touristy neighborhood. I did do a lot of walking, visited other sections of the city and enjoyed my time there. As the large group, we ate dinner together at restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and, overall, food was good; service, too. We had no difficulty not speaking French; everyone was accommodating. Our group did the hop-on, hop-off bus and enjoyed it. Several of us visited the Citadel and liked it. Many other explorations.

5 Star stay

Babsluvstotravel (North Andover, Massachusetts) on Jul 18, 2024

Our experience at the hotel was 5-star. The room was lovely and the staff was wonderful. Especially the staff during our breakfast each morning. Easy check-in and check-out on the gold floor level. The room was quiet despite the construction outside.
