Campbell N on Apr 25, 2024

Diego was the best!!!! Give him a raise!! He gave us the best experience I. The world and the hotels bed were so comfy. And I love how the trip was all expenses paid.thw Bali beds we the best things to lay on watching the sunrise or sunset. All of the restaurants had some of the best food I've ever had in my life. This whole experience is a trip of a lifetime and I can't wait to come back for another exciting trip to generations Riviera Maya!

Not the best alternative

GrandTour18899331103 on Apr 12, 2024

We booked a 4 night stay this month. I chose it because of travel agent recommendation and price. The rooms were good and staff responsive. However as compared to other all inclusives I have stayed at this was the worst. The food was subpar. The Mexican restaurant was tasteless, seriously wired. For example, beans were like a watered down compost. The Italian Rest, though the food was delicious, I had lasagna and it was about 2" by 2". My wife had ravioli and there were 3 raviolis on the plate. Steak restaurant same issues. I got the impression that as an all inclusive they were limiting what they had to provide to save bucks. I literally lost 2 pounds. Also, it was boring. The only thing happening after 8PM were private wedding parties. IT WAS DEAD. Bars all closed, no dancing, no socialization, just dead. Three resorts were connected and getting from one to the other was a lot of walking or very long waits for golf cart shuttles and all three were dead at night. Nothing like what I have experienced before. Concierge and excursion planning was poor. Restaurant hours were wrong, meaning we missed meals and room service response to a menu request was, "What do you want." Excursions were pricy and not well detailed out. You learned about the details after you got on the bus. They were longer than needed to be because they got some tourist trap sales stops in. I expected better coordination for the dollar. So, if your looking for a get away that's low key, quite and food is not important this is a good option. Otherwise spend a few extra dollars and experience what an all inclusive should be somewhere else.

A Solid Choice. Nothing Exceptional.

Christina G on Apr 12, 2024

If there is one word to describe this resort it's "fine". Nothing is blatantly wrong, but it really lacks in excellence that other resorts get right. We booked this resort thinking it would be good for young kids, hence the name Generations. However, we didn't feel this was a resort geared toward families. The good: 1) They now offer FREE access to Aqua Nick, which is a huge perk for families. We went two days and loved it. It was easy to get a reservation, and they shuttle you to the entrance of Aqua Nick. If you want to experience Nick but want a cheaper resort, Generations is a solid option if only to get into Aqua Nick. 2) The Kids Club is nice, clean and offers a variety of activities. The staff there was really attentive and engaged. 3) The beach and beach seating are good. We never had trouble getting a beach bed when we wanted one, but the resort wasn't full. It was too windy to do many beach activities, but we still enjoyed it. The average: 1) The pool is just ok. What you see in pics is what you get. There aren't other more private pools. There is a very small kids pool that is good for babies and toddlers. 2) The rooms are fine. Again, they are as advertised....but nothing special. We had an ocean-view suite (no swim up) and felt it was a good size for our family of 4. The opportunities: 1) Restaurants. Restaurants. Restaurants. To be fair, the food was good. We enjoyed the Palms at breakfast/lunch the most. But the whole dinner experience was very frustrating. There are several restaurants, but they are on a weird rotation and you never really know what's open for dinner. Also, they nearly insist that you have a dinner reservation even if there are 30+ open tables. It's annoying and not the typical "all inclusive" experience we've had at other resorts. For families, this was especially inconvenient. 2) No beach or pool service. Don't expect staff to come around to the beach or pool offering drinks or food. There was a "club area" on the beach where there seemed to be some service. Also, the pool bar, which is the most central bar, closes early. So if you want a drink past 7pm you'll need to get it from room service or walk to a restaurant. 3) The in-room minibar was minimally stocked. They provided soda, some beer and some snacks. We're used to also having wine and even hard liquor in the room at other resorts. The solution was to call room service and have them bring a single glass of wine to the room.

Lovely resort setup but they need to work on restaurant service & options after 5pm

Shannon B on Apr 03, 2024

The view from our 3rd floor swim up room was beautiful...the suite was lovely & spacious, I wanted to really love this place, but there is one major thing that is keeping me from thinking of going back: There is no place to dine at after 5pm that doesn't take over TWO HOURS to eat dinner, other than room service, but it shouldn't be this way if they are advertising that this resort is for all ages. There should be a small buffet, taco bar or quick snack/sandwich bar/hot dog stand/burger bar or SOMETHING where you can eat outside your room in the evenings that doesn't try your patience & waste your vacation time. I was travelling with my 74 year old mother, & 14 & 16 year old sons, so we tried Jade twice, Wine Kitchen once, and even though we said "please bring anything we ordered as soon as it's ready, we don't need 1st & 2nd courses...please don't wait: we're just very hungry"; it still took over 2 hours each time that we visited. They told me that the resort was at 40% capacity, and I could see that the staff was indifferent to this...the service was very slow...maybe they were bored? At the Palms, I saw a staff member opening a small cabinet door multiple times to hide that she was texting on her phone, with others standing around chatting to other staff while we were trying to get their attention to ask for more drinks & water...another time I was literally standing there with money in my hand...waiting to tip the staff as we decided to leave, but no one came out of the kitchen for quite a while, so I finally left! There seemed to be no urgency to get drinks & food out to us, and I was wondering if it had been a full resort with packed reservations, maybe they would have hurried a little to keep to the schedule, or maybe it would have been worse? That's what makes me not want to go back. We were on "vacation time" with no rush or schedules, but we just wanted to enjoy the outdoors...not cooped up in some noisy restaurant, waiting for our food for hours.

Fantastic Resort nailing the basics

rpiddocke (Vancouver, Canada) on Apr 01, 2024

Generations Riviera Maya is an extremely service focused, friendly, relaxing, upscale resort. I would say it's a 4.5 star resort and good value if you just want to relax. We went as a family of 4 with two kids and everyone had a great time. The resort is part of a larger Adults only complex (El Dorado) and is not as family focused as other resorts on the Riviera (we've been to 5 others). The staff were all great and some a bit greater than others - especially Alma at Habb and Roberto in the Chef's Market went above and beyond to make us feel special. Thank you! Here is a list of things we liked and disliked. Likes: - The rooms are 2x the size of many resorts and extremely clean and comfortable. - 24 hour room service came promptly and was delicious. The kids loved this. - No towel cards or annoying towel rituals. Just take a towel when you need it. - Lots of seating everywhere and no need to reserve. The Bali beds on the beach were fantastic and where we stayed most of the time. - Great restaurants with delicious food. We tried to sample everything and didn't find a dish we didn't like. Mexican and Italian 'nights' were sub-par but still fine. - The drinks are made properly and are delicious. It really made me realize how poorly drinks are made at other resorts (this is our 5th resort in Riviera Maya). - All rooms face the sea and ours had a fantastic view. - The pool is very big and a perfect temperature. - The beach is cleaned constantly. - The Saturday Foam party was a blast. - Our assigned concierge (Andres) was very friendly and proactive. Concerns: - The kids club is a great activity spot for kids but not somewhere I would leave my 8 year old all day. The staff at the kids club are fantastic but they don't take the kids outside of the basement or to lunch so you have to go and get them to eat or swim. We took our daughter there just for the crafts. - Some of the things we were promised by our travel agency (Sunwing) were not guaranteed by the resort (eg. late checkout, wine discounts). Generations were somewhat accommodating but it was clear this wasn't something they cared about. That is probably more of a Agent problem but was still disappointing after such a great stay. - The resort is smaller and doesn't have a ton of outdoor activities for kids. - The concrete blocks in the sea are ugly and poorly placed. I imagine some engineer was involved but it doesn't seem like it. Snorkelling is really not practical at this resort. - Posted activities were sporadic. The app was inaccurate and mostly about Dorado, the adults only resort where the kids couldn't go. - Wine can only be purchased by the bottle and the wine is outrageous. A $20 bottle of wine I can get locally is over $100 at the Wine Kitchen restaurant. I can't drink a whole bottle anyways. - Some of the bartenders (especially at the pool) ignored the kids. I watched some days as kids waited 10+ minutes to order while the bartenders chit chatted with colleagues or washed cups. Overall, these minor things were insignificant though and we had a great time. I think a week is more than enough at this resort. If you just want to forget everything and be pampered for a few days, this resort is perfect.
