The Iberostar Tucan sits on the Caribbean beach of Playacar along the Mayan Riviera and is surrounded by a natural ecosystem with abundant vegetation and diverse animal life. A great option for family vacations, where visitors can relax in perfect harmony with nature and enjoy a generous variety of activities and dining services.
We’ve just returned from a 7 days stay at the Iberostar Tucan, and what a truly wonderful resort it is !
The service is beyond fantastic , from the wait staff , bartenders , maid service and all in between, they go above and beyond to ensure you’re having a wonderful vacation !
The food was outstanding. Please don’t listen to any reviews that state otherwise , as the quality and freshness was abundant in all of the restaurants we visited. I’ve been to dozens of all inclusive resorts ( Grand Palladium, Barcelo, Melia, etc ) in Mexico and other Caribbean countries and this hotel has to be the top of them all for the sheer variety at every meal ! There is always a fresh Mexican station with multiple salsas, tostadas, toppings and pico / guacamole. Plus many other stations serving grilled items , specialty foods , pasta , salads , breads , fruits and desserts ! They put so much effort into making sure that there is food for every possible taste bud as there are visitors from all over the world here !
The pool is large and warm , and yes shaded seats do get scooped up early but we always found some shade even when coming down mid to late morning. The beach is a different story , as those chairs are taken very early I’m assuming. There is no beach service , unless you are in the Star Privilege area, but there are 2 bars right at the edge of the pool and beach so always easy to grab a beverage. Top shelf liquor is everywhere and included. Just ask for it !
The entertainment team does a great job at keeping guests occupied and as busy as you want to be. They don’t bug you to participate if you’d rather not. Always music playing so it’s a great tropical holiday vibe. There are definitely quieter spots around the pool if you don’t enjoy the music.
The rooms aren’t super fancy , but the beds and pillows are very comfortable. If you want to see monkeys , it seems the buildings closest to the pool have the most monkey action. We stayed on the top floor of building 13 and had monkeys on our balcony every day.
The couple shows we went to were fantastic, those being the white party and the fire show on the beach. Spectacular !!!
All in all, I would come back here again and again , as it’s honestly just that good and highly recommend it to everyone !

We have been to the Iberostar Tucan and absolutely loved it . This time the experience was so disappointing. The food is not good and you are forced into the one buffet in the evening unless you are lucky enough to get a restaurant booking. The buffet restaurant staff ignore you unless you tip them they don’t bring coffee in the morning or water unless you tip. The food used to be excellent it’s now below average. The beach is overcrowded if you need a sun lounger with shade you need to be on the beach before 7am. The noise from the Star team at the pool is so so loud screaming down a microphone we were on the sun loungers the furthest as on the beach and could only hear the noise from the star team playing terrible music or screaming down the microphone playing pool games ??. Be careful what you leave out in your room I had a pink dress and new underwear vanish as well as prescribed medication for my husband. Before you ask I didn’t report this as I didn’t want any hassle or anything else to vanish. There is no beach waiter service just a very long queue for drinks. The hotel also sells day resort passes which puts a further strain on the already busy beach and bar. This hotel charges for a 5 star service but this is not the service they provided. Don’t pay the high price for a crap holiday. It would also be lovely if the domestic staff swept and mopped the floors in your room.
The beach and sea are beautiful but you can access this from other hotels. We left on Monday 18th September and we will not be returning
