Overall good experience
K2976IGkatiem (Spokane, Washington) on Jul 04, 2022
We stayed 8 days at Iberoatar Tucan with our two teenagers (15 and 18yo). The resort had a nice laid-back We had overall a positive experience but there were some areas where I think the resort could improve. ROOM - we booked a “family room” which is two connected rooms, one with a king bed and one with two double beds. The rooms have a jungle view. This was a great option for our family as the kids had their own space but we still felt like we were together as a family. The jungle view was so great! We saw all of the wildlife every day right from the balcony - Monkeys, agoutis, peacocks, and more! The beds had very firm mattresses which I found comfy but other family members thought was too hard. Our biggest complaint, however, about the resort was the maintenance state of the rooms and buildings. The rooms had some maintenance issues which were pretty serious and were hard to get resolved. The phone in one of the rooms never ended up working properly. The buildings are definitely rough around the edges. I can overlook some peeling paint and rough furniture even noisy AC/fans, but doors that don't shut/open and phones that don't work are safety issues and we felt they were not taken seriously until we insisted to management. BEACH - We were curious about the seaweed situation that we’d heard so much about. For the first 5 days of our stay there was indeed a LOT of seaweed. But it didn’t really take away from our enjoyment of the beach and the ocean. It is not the slimy type of seaweed and they do have a machine come by and rake it up a couple of times a day. It’s not smelly or anything. We just swam past it to where the water was clearer and that was fine. The last 3 days of our stay there was almost no seaweed at all and the water was clear and beautiful! The beach itself is nice and big with soft sand. The resort had plenty of beach seating though if you want chairs up front or under an umbrella it’s best to get there early to reserve. (Posted signs prohibit reserving but that is not enforced!) We had access to the "premier beach club" for some of our stay and the cabanas and upgraded bar were delightful. FOOD - We ate dinner in two of the restaurants and did the buffets for the rest of the meals. The Japanese restaurant was just ok. It was noisy and hard to hear our chef's schtick and the food was so-so. The Smokehouse was very good though! All of the meats were flavorful and the side dishes were interesting. The buffets were pretty good - especially for lunch and breakfast. Our favorites were the salad bar, fresh chips and salsa/guacamole, fresh fruits and huge dessert selection! Midday there is a snack bar at the beach with hot dogs, burgers, chips, salads and fries. This is a great option when you don't want to leave the beach/pool for lunch or just get hungry between meals. It would have been nice if there had been more very casual food options, maybe pizza or sandwiches. BARS - The bars were a little inconsistent. Most of the drinks were pretty weak but did not seem to be made the same from day to day or bar to bar. Passion fruit daquiris were my kids favorite (virgin for the youngest, of course!). Coffee and tea was available at some of the bars all day, but it took us a couple days to figure that out. Drinks from the "Star Prestige" bars were definitely better.
