Great stay

Great trip. Everything was beyond what we expect! Staff there was so friendly and hard working! We can't not wait until we come back. There was so much to do with the kids. Pools were amazing and beach was nice and clean.
AVOID - complete let down!
BHXER (Birmingham, United Kingdom) on Jul 04, 2022
My partner and I visited Grand Palladium White Sands in June 2022 and stayed in one of the ‘Romance Bungalows’ (TUI market this a lake view bungalow) which overlooked the lake and came with a little boat to row around the resort. I’ll begin with the positive comments – the resort is stunning and immaculately clean. There’s wildlife everywhere and we saw all sorts of animals being right in the heart of the jungle. The pools were mainly clean although on some days it did seem like the filters had stopped working with cloudy water/bugs floating on top of the water. Unfortunately that’s where the positive comments end. We were incredibly disappointed with White Sands. Given this was supposedly a 5* resort, the food was no better than a 2* and the service from the staff was almost useless. Particularly the reception staff who had this non caring attitude – they would often just shrug their shoulders at you. The food in the buffet was the best out of all the options but even that was not great. The a la carte restaurants were shockingly bad, and I had food poisoning for 7 out of 11 days! The food quality was absolutely awful and meat was either under or over cooked; chicken was always presented slimy and beef was always so tough you could hardly chew it. The restaurants are the main disappointment of White Sands – I cannot stress enough how bad they are. The food was disgusting and in the end I resorted to filling up with a big breakfast at the buffet. What I would say is don’t worry about the required dress codes it tells you in the app for the restaurants, people were just wearing whatever they wanted so that seems to have been relaxed now. The worst place we ate at was Poseidon sea food restaurant which is on the beach. It took 45 minutes to be seated, another 40 minutes to take our order, 1 hour for starters to come and another 1 hour for mains to come. By the end of the main course our friends were so tired they left the table as it was nearly 11pm! Service at White Sands is SLOW and very poor. The majority of the time there were huge chunks of the menu that were unavailable. The food all tasted really, really cheap and of poor quality. The bar tenders were generally really friendly and tried their best but the majority of the drinks they made weren’t very nice at all – either too strong or too sweet. The cocktails they offer are these pre-mixed kind, they don’t mix any of them in cocktail shakers. They’re just poured from pre-bought bottles and a bit of alcohol added. Again, not something you would expect from a 5* resort. The best bar tender was the one at the adult pool in White Sands, he was there on his own the whole time we were there and such a nice guy. I didn’t get his name but he made the best drinks out of all the bars we visited. Our room was nice but not very clean, there were bugs and dirty footprints all over the floor when we checked in – there was even an old plaster stuck to the bathroom floor. The windows and mirrors were dirty and several light bulbs didn’t work, including the outside ones. Overall the room felt very tired and needed a good clean. The shower was outside and didn’t have a shower head as this had been broken off so there was just a pipe sticking out of the wall – it was like showering under a hose pipe and was quite painful at times with such a jet of water. Reception didn’t care when I reported this to them. The room did not come with robes or slippers and no towel art like you’d normally expect at a 5* resort. Housekeeping was inconsistent; some days you would get 4 towels and others you would get none. I had to ask 3 days in a row for our bedsheets to be changed! I was tipping around £5 a day to housekeeping so don’t think is because I wasn’t tipping. After a couple of days staying there we noticed the lake was being drained and the boats that came with the bungalows had been taken away. The smell was horrendous when the water level dropped low enough to expose the bottom of the lake. I cannot explain in words how bad this smell was, the whole resort smelt horrendous and given our room was on the lake it was hard to avoid. When I asked reception what was going on they told me they were cleaning the lake so draining it and shrugged shoulders at me again when I complained about the smell. We paid an extra £700 for this lake view bungalow, only for the lake to be drained and not have a lake view. The spa was in a nice setting but again the ‘healthy bar’ that was available for smoothies and sandwiches had so much off the menu it might as well have been closed. Out of about 25 drinks on the menu only 3 were available when we visited. The pool is nice at the spa but there were only about 12 sun loungers which just wasn’t enough for all of the people at the spa pool. Entertainment was OK, with shows each night and various activities going on. The silent disco is great, I thought it wouldn’t be my thing at all but was so much fun we stayed until the end. Wifi in the resort was good overall, there were the odd places where it didn’t work such as at the beach but other than that it was good. The beach was full of seaweed but I expected it and didn’t care, but I know this could be an issue for some people. There are men there working all day to clear it relentlessly – I felt sorry for them actually as they’re just fighting a losing battle.
