This trip was in memory of my husband and father, Eric Walker. We have been coming to Barcelo Maya Grand Resort for over 20 years. We stayed at the Beach, Caribe, many times in Tropical. Eric always wanted to come to visit Palace. He passed away suddenly in July 2024 so we organized this trip in his memory. I and my daughter had a great time. We cherished every moment there. We remembered all the wonderful times that we had there together during all those visits to Barcelo Grand Resort. We referred many people to Barcelo. Barcelo Maya Grand Resort is our place! Barcelo Maya Palace was a delight to visit with the large extended family. This resort is located about 1 to 1.5 hours' drive from the Cancun and Tulum airports, depending on traffic. There are 5 hotels on this resort, and guests at Maya Palace can access the amenities (pools, restaurants, shows, etc) at the other hotels. Maya Palace is spacious throughout, from large lobbies, dining buffets and restaurants, to large family suites. The decor and atmosphere are upscale. The service is prompt, courteous, and professional. The rooms and expansive grounds are very clean. The buffet restaurants provide a plethora of food options, including lots of seafood, meats, and vegetarian dishes. The bar is stocked with premium liquors, not available at the other hotels on the resort. The a la carte restaurants are actually quite good for an all-inclusive resort. Tip: Book reservations early with the concierge, as desirable restaurants and timeslots fill up quickly. The beach was calm all week, with minimal seaweed. The beach is part sandy, part rocky, so water shoes may be a consideration, especially for the little ones. The pools were large and varied, including a kids' splash and slides pool as well as several other pools for adults. There were always loungers available both at the beach and at the pools, so there was no need for the early morning scramble. The hotel grounds are quite large, if your room is in the furthest building, you're trekking across three building blocks, pools, and hotel grounds to get to the restaurants, which can be a lot especially with little ones so we found it very helpful bringing stollers/carriers to carry kids and supplies to and fro. And speaking of kids, the Barcy Kids club, was quite helpful, providing activities for kids 4-12 years of age from 9am till 5pm. Having stayed in the Cancun hotel strip last year, Maya Palace is a considerably more laid back and quiet alternative. Less of a party atmosphere and more of a premium relaxing retreat.
