The Iberostar Quetzal resort is located along the sandy beaches and clear waters of the Yucatan Peninsula. Enjoy your day relaxing on the beach under the sun or in a variety of sporting activities available for all ages.
I can’t wait to return! We are ready for another week in paradise.
Arrival: Jorge from the front desk was very informative and friendly. He welcomed us to the hotel and we felt right at home.
Room: we stayed in a junior suite beachfront and it was perfect. We had plenty of storage space. Housekeeper was detailed and consistent. Very comfortable.
Pool: clean and big enough for all. Plenty of chairs around.
Food: The food was amazing. The options at the buffet were great. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The staff was attentive and happy to please. Diana from the pool restaurant was super friendly and pleasant. The guacamole was definitely my favorite.
Specialty restaurant: Japanese restaurant was the best! Steakhouse was good. Mediterranean was mediocre.
Entertainment: The shows were high quality. Professional performers were contracted…there was an amazing circus show and a Mayan show. Don’t miss out on the guitar player. Daily activities led by the entertainment staff were great. We chose Iberostar because of the quality of the entertainment and staff. This is our 3rd Iberostar and it is evident that they hire the best. A huge kudos to Yomira. She helped ease my sister by joining her in kareoke performance. She also handled an awkward situation respectfully and gracefully….a family was trying to overtake the kareoke signup and requesting inappropriate songs.
A few suggestions to make it all better…
Food: more Mexican food please
Drinks: consider listing the drinks available at the pool bars or just a few drink ideas
Facilities: the fans should always be on…I had to ask to have it turned on in the theater, at the restaurant and at the lounge. This should be automatically turned on…not only for the guests but also the employees.
Entertainment: bingo space is too small, music at the pool should be always playing (consider playing Spanish music since we are there for the experience in Mexico)
App: the app should be updated often…any changes in itinerary should be posted immediately.
I was appalled to see guests wearing Trump and MAGA hats…in Mexico! It was in poor taste and hurtful to the employees and others.
Excellent resort, aggressive drug dealers camp out at resort beach and ruined experience.

The reason I am only giving 2 stars. There are pedophile drug dealers who camp out *all day* on Iberostar Quetzal’s beach loungers, eat the food, and drink beers from the bar. They then throw the cups, plates, cigarette butts right on the sand.
They are not employees (no uniform or badge) and not guests (no armbands). They catcall and follow minor children girls on the beach (asking where they are from, where is their boyfriend), and yell inappropriately at the elderly (for example, “viagra? For coochie coochie all night long” at grey haired couples).
They carry waist bags with small baggies of cocaine and other drugs. It is very obvious, they do not hide what they are doing. They occupy prime beach loungers and security staff, standing closely in view of the drug dealers, does NOTHING. I notified Iberostar through multiple channels and NOTHING was done about this the entire trip. I felt unsafe, uncomfortable, and disturbed by this experience. Honestly it ruined my trip. I am a covid nurse and worked all year to save up for this—only to be literally surrounded by aggressive, pedophile drug dealers literally the next lounger over. I speak Spanish and their conversations were vulgar and disturbing.
Despite the rest of the great qualities of the resort, I will never return and sadly have to recommend you do not come here either.
Now on to the rest of it. The staff is 5* staff. Best staff of any all-inclusive resort I have ever stayed at-except security who was clearly useless.
The food was great quality, but very poorly labeled. I am vegan and ate pretty well, but the signage often said something was vegan when it clearly was not. Had I eaten it I would have gotten extremely ill due to the dairy. For example, pancakes and waffles were labeled vegan and when I inquired about the ingredients they listed non-vegan ingredients. The Japanese themed restaurant was okay and the chef really cool, but for vegetarians your meal will be rice and vegetables. No tofu or anything else. The restaurants were generally bland and disappointing, tbh the buffet food was better, especially for vegans and vegetarians.
My husband who is omni enjoyed the food a lot. The coffee is gross. I always got hot tea instead.
The beach and pool areas are well maintained and beautiful. There was too much seaweed in the ocean to swim, but not Iberostar’s fault so I wouldn’t detract the experience due to that. The room was nice and clean, but there are almost NO outlets. Bring a power strip! The outlets were not close to the bed so expect to charge your phone across the room or in the bathroom.
So if you made it this far in the review, unfortunately the bottom line is do not go here for a vacation, unless you want to share the food, drinks, loungers, etc THAT YOU PAID FOR with drug dealers making themselves at home.
