Don’t bother staying here.

tour212 (Chatham, United Kingdom) on Oct 04, 2024

Booked a particular room type months ago paid in full and this was not available on check in. Given a lesser valued room with $150 credit for food and beverage, really not about the money as I really just wanted the room I booked. next day went to get the correct room to only get told the room they was going to give us was given to some one else and they would call us when our room was ready Duty manager Called 10 minutes later and brought up key card, we the proceed to new room, on entering room a house keeper followed us into the room saying it was occupied, I advised her that we was given the room, she called to check as she thought the current guest was extending stay, after checking she was advised the room was to us, but then we needed to wait for her to change the bedding and top up items. We were advised we were going to receive champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries, but until my partner followed up on the last night I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t have got them. Overall very disappointing, the breakfast service was very slow and inattentive until the last day we had an amazing waiter only wish I could remember his name. When dealing with FOH mangers felt like my custom wasn’t valued.

A don't-miss Old San Francisco classic

Judith_S_11122 (Los Angeles, California, United States) on Sep 29, 2024

A “grande dame” hotel lovingly preserved, showing a few wrinkles but still gracious and beautiful. The service was uniformly top-notch, especially Sean at the door and Christian at the front desk. Our room was surprisingly large for an old hotel, and everything was immaculately clean. The bed was very comfortable, and the e-connectivity was quite adequate. High-end bathroom amenities were included, along with safe, ironing board, padded hangers, and full-length mirrors. Housekeeping quickly swapped out the feather pillows for foam pillows, to accommodate an allergy. Dining was expensive, and the food quality in the Tonga Lounge was poor, although the live music was excellent. Recommend having a drink and enjoying the band, then going to any of the excellent nearby restaurants for dinner - Le Parc Bistro, for example. The hotel's location at the top of Nob Hill offers spectacular views from most guest rooms. Pro tip: you can walk down Nob Hill to Union Square etc., but unless you’re into mountain climbing, take the cable car back up to the hotel. It’s the San Francisco way!
