The Beacon Grand is the perfect hotel for us in SF. Perfect location, Great access to public transportation, MOST Comfortable bed. The Oak Room is a great place to dine. The newly renovated Starlight Room has the best vibe and amazing food and drinks.
The gem of Union Square

With so many options as to where to stay in San Francisco it can be overwhelming. Based off of the pictures on their website and the price I was willing to spend, I chose the Beacin Grand…and I am so glad we did! From the moment we stepped out of the car and greeted by the most charming doorman, the the courteous front desk staff, not to mention the beautiful elegance of the older but stately hotel. Our room was perfect! It was decorated to the caliber of being “magazine worthy!” I can’t say enough good things…we will be back!
Nice hotel, poor location

Nice older hotel, smaller rooms but old-world charm. The two bars are nice, above average. However, I would downgrade this hotel based on surrounding location. Union Square not what I remember it being 10 yrs ago, unfortunately there was active drug use and it is downright dangerous at night around the hotel. Would avoid based on location.
Great hotel in heart of union square

Love this hotel. Staff are all friendly and helpful. Clean rooms. Bar is great - really good food. Great location for union square and access to bart at Powell street. Felt very safe during my stay and I've stayed here multiple times in Jan-Feb. I love that they have 4 pelotons in the weight room, no need to find a class while business traveling.
My New San Francisco Home - Grand Beacon
(Thousand Oaks, California)

This iconic hotel has changed names and attitude. No longer stiff and stuffy, the Beacon Grand (formerly the Sir Francis Drake) offers a friendly atmosphere in a treasured space. The bones of the property have been updated with care, while remaining true to its hundred year old plus beauty. The feel of the hotel is lux, with warm homey overtones.
I can tell you the rooms are nice, the sheets feel good, hot water is instant in the shower, but the real heart of the hotel is the staff. Warmly greeted by Monica Okra at the front desk, she took care of little things throughout our stay. Note to management: Make Monika a manager because she works as if she owns the hotel. Monica cares.
Lief Abram (guest Relations Manager) took charge when we had a small issue (stuff happens even in the best of places). He immediately solved our issue. Offered us tea or a drink, chatted with us for a few minutes and made us feel welcome. Bottom line: Lief cares.
Do you remember when customer service was important? When staff took the time to get to know you? When staff cared about their work?. This is almost non-existent today. From the door person/ valet as you walk in, to the desk clerk, to management, they all take ownership, making the stay easy and comfortable. It's like customer service from another age.
One last thing - The Starlite Room on the 21st floor offers a spectacular view of San Francisco. Don't miss it. GM David Kwon has done a good job in bringing the room back to life.
The Beacon Grand is right in the heart of San Francisco. You can jump on a cable car, walk around Union Square and shop. The hotel is near the theatre district and wonderful food abounds near by.
