Passive aggressive at best; full on racist at worst. Can you enjoy yourself in the midst of such exploitation?

343lunat on Feb 15, 2024

Beautiful place but the racism is palpable. The employees really don’t want to serve white people and it shows. No smiles, no eye contact, just mechanical dialed in service. The Brits don’t want anything to do with an American. Even a liberal like me. There is also NO WATER! I told them I needed bottled in glass only water. They didn’t tell me they couldn’t accommodate me until I flew all the way across the country and entered my room. They have chlorinated water that they say is filtered but you can smell the chlorine. It’s undrinkable. Then there’s plastic water. Drinking these toxic carcinogens upsets your microbiome, amongst other things. I battle SIBO so I have spent thousands on probiotics over the years to get it under control. You’d think they’d understand the importance of good clean water being a health hotel. Nope. They told me there was no glass bottled water on the island. Luckily Cap Maison next door accommodated us. They provided the service Body Holiday could not. The food is hit or miss. They rush you through everything. Who eats a 4 course meal in under an hour? That’s insulting. However, it can be quite good. Just don’t let them rush you. And be aware, this hotel finds ways to charge you for things. It will nickle and dime you to death. Lots of charges from others on your bill too so keep track of those legitimate extra charges and don’t let them rob you. I joined a line of people complaining about illegitimate charges. Speaking of insulting, all the angry lighting spoils the ambiance. They have super bright harsh LED spotlights beaming in your face blinding your way back to your room after dinner. It’s completely unnecessary. They’re protecting their little sailboats at the customers expense. Stupid. But I have saved the best for last. Coming down the steep rocky mountainside after lunch, I walked on a patch of loose rock on the pathway and slid down the rocky mountain about a yard on my shin. Blood everywhere. No rope, no guardrail of any sort and no one attending to the four older customers making the trek down after lunch. Now the ITAL lunch was the best part of the trip but it was rushed and I nearly lost my life coming down the mountain from it. Hardly worth it. I felt scammed most of the time. The 50 minute massage I received was only 35 minutes. A facial I’d had scheduled was cancelled without informing me. Apparently the machine broke. I guess they thought I’d agree to something else once I was there. No. I know what I want and what I don’t. Saw a blind massage therapist be extremely rude to a very sweet elderly woman. I almost stepped in. Being handicapped does not give you license to treat others cruelly. That was a first. I’m sure my mouth fell open. What a disaster this place is. Maybe it’s great to someone who’s never been anywhere TRULY service oriented. As in from the HEART GENUINE SERVICE. See Post Ranch Inn for the real deal. BodyHoliday is just another sham. And exploiting the locals who do not want to serve rich white people… (Can you blame them?) It was just horrible. Someone is going to fall down that mountain if something isn’t done to protect people and I don’t think it’ll get done without serious financial pressure. Lack of motivation seems to be the running theme here. But who gets hurt if you litigate or suggest avoiding this place? It’s a tough situation. I resent being put in this position. I met a few nice guests but there was one really nasty man that nearly caused me to fall off the treehouse steps! He would not get up and let me by! An employee nearby did nothing. I guess treating white women poorly is acceptable here. Step in. Don’t let a bully treat a tiny older woman like that! That makes you as low as him. Again the feeling that I am not wanted here. OK, got it. I came here like a bouncing ball of light, ready for fun in the sun. I left exhausted, stressed and battered and bruised with my digestive system totally shut down. THIS IS NOT OK. PS: There was one ray of genuine light, one of our housekeepers, Samanthie. She saw me crying in my room and she wasted no time at all scooping me up in her genuinely loving arms and lovin on me until I felt better. She has no idea how much that meant to me. I was feeling so unseen and misunderstood, so unfairly treated. But she saw me and just poured her heart onto me. Honestly, she gave me the strength to even get on the 16 hour journey home. I’d been so mistreated by the first massage therapists I’d encountered that I had to cancel all my bodywork. I refuse to allow unloving hands on my body. I paid for these services but obviously could not accept them. Who could? You’d have to have hide for skin! And the woman attending the gift shop was so rude that I couldn’t get all the souvenirs I wanted to get for my family and friends. She even laughed at my elderly companion who is on the spectrum! The cruelty was shocking. Nothing was ever done about it. So the abuse I received from staff combined with the lack of water, which completely stopped my digestion leading to an intensely painful episode, well, it left me in tears. Samanthie saw me at my most vulnerable and didn’t laugh at me or roll her eyes behind my back where I coukld see like others did; she did what any normal loving good person would do, she reached out to comfort me. Genuinely. The fact that this stands out so much tells you everything you need to know about this place. Locals are being exploited so that the wannabes can pretend they’re bigger than they really are. You can only tip in a box at the end of your stay. That money is split with everyone, including management, at the end of the year! That is abominable. If you can have fun in the midst of such unfairness and exploitation, which no doubt leads to real suffering and resentment, then go for it. I am not built of such tough stuff. It was sheer hell for me. I understood the animosity from the locals but I didn’t feel it was fair that I be victimized by it as I was the only one seemingly bothered by the unfair set-up to begin with. It’s beautiful but toxic poison for anyone who is truly sensitive to their surroundings and needs good clean water. Also gossip here is like wildfire. Everyone knew my digestive situation within days. ?? I was ridiculed and dismissed as “precious”by people I’d never met and who had no idea of my personal health struggles. It was like walking into the cafeteria and encountering the mean girls every single time. All in all a real nightmare.

Never Again

Adventurer109456 (Minneapolis, Minnesota) on Feb 11, 2024

Sent an email to the resort and the email that the resort mentions online back in August 2023. I never heard back from them. Finally posting it now on Trip Advisor so others will be aware. I just have to say how disappointed I was after my 11th visit to the BodyHoliday. Here are some of the many things that I experienced that were unpleasant and the reasons that I will most likely not return: Prior to leaving, I put a request in the webroom to have my fridge only stocked with only water; that didn't happen. The floor I requested was not granted, there was no bouquet in the room, and no tee shirt offered for returning guests. All of these things were granted/offered in the past. When I arrived at reception, the person at the reception desk was less than friendly when giving her my credit card and getting my spa schedule. The lady working at the Clubhouse bar seemed very bothered when I asked for a straw with my drink and was saying something about me to the other person working. Then that night I went to Cariblue for dinner. I requested to sit on the side closest to the water. I was informed that all the tables were taken. Many tables remained open the entire time I sat and ate on the other side. Not a great way to spend your first couple of hours returning with having those experiences. The guest fitness instructor, Angie, on Monday was over 10 minutes late to class and did not give a challenging Beach fit workout. The yoga instructor, Kez, was eating a piece of watermelon as I entered the fitness studio and continued to do so without greeting me or the other guests. Both of those behaviors were unprofessional amongst many other experiences that I had with the staff. When I had my spa treatment on the second day, I asked if the therapist could put a towel down on the face holder. She raised her voice twice to say that the cover that was on it was already protecting it. There were two times that I was at the spa where there were no water glasses to drink out of at the central pavilion area. When I requested bottled water at the beach, I only received it one day. Housekeeping did not come two of the nights to turn the room down. One night they came later. When I asked for towels she was fine giving me some, but got upset when I asked if she could take the dirty ones away. This was my third night when I wanted my sheets to be changed, but that was obviously was not going to happen. On the first night, I sent a request for housekeep to service the room at 8:00, which only happened twice. One day I left for lunch and when I came back, the beach attendant gave my table to someone else. I was only gone for 30 minutes. But the main thing that I was the most disturbed about was being yelled at by a person in water sports for going too far on my paddle board. I apologized for going too far as I got so caught up in the beauty of the island, but he was still so rude and aggressive. This type of behavior is unacceptable! When I talked about it with another person that worked in waterspouts, he apologized for his coworkers behavior and mentioned that he had experienced his coworker in water sports be aggressive towards him. When checking out, the lady at reception demeanor was similar to the one when I checked in. She did want to inquire more when I mentioned that my experience hadn't been as good as the past. Hopefully these issues will get addressed so other people don't have the same unpleasant experiences that I had.
