Underwhelming, too quiet and poorly managed.

Sonia D (Cranfield, United Kingdom) on Mar 03, 2024

Underwhelming. Unbelievably quiet to the point of it feeling like a ghost-town after around 9pm, we’re not fans of noisy places but this place went to the other extreme. The only bars were attached to the restaurants so nowhere really to relax with a beverage and listen to music. Oh yes, music…we were in the Rum Cave, a bar room off of one of the restaurants and the silence was so deafening I put on Spotify on my phone! Frequently the restaurants and bars ran out of ingredients and menu items. No yoghurt for breakfast for days, no steak at the steak restaurant, no bananas!!! St Lucia grows bananas - they are just down the road! Overall we did have a relaxing holiday and met some lovely people and we went to Rodney Bay for the street party for a bit of liveliness. Again, this didn’t live up to expectation but the food was amazing and we felt safe. The view of the bay is spectacular and the overwhelming experience for all guests were the comings and goings of the tireless crew of an unbelievably large cruiser which was docked there. Definitely NOT the 5 star hotel it claimed to be but a nice break all the same.

Lovely Zoetry Marigot Bay St. Lucia

CMDTraveller74 (London, Canada) on Mar 02, 2024

We truly enjoyed our week long stay at Zoetry Marigot Bay from February 17 - 24, 2024. Upon arrival at airport, we were greeted by the travel company we used and shuttled to the resort. It was about an hour long drive and since we arrived after sun fall we did not see the views but definitely felt the winding roads!! (Bring anti-nausea pills if you tend to get car sick) We were greeted at Zoetry instantly with a cool towel, refreshing drink and a lovely greeting of “Welcome Home”. Our room was the Master Residence Suite with Plunge Pool. A gorgeous, spacious and clean room with a lot of amenities with it. We were about two levels above ground and there are stairs. If you have issues with walking or climbing then please make sure you request ground level. There are no elevators. Every day our room was cleaned and the fridge well stocked. They provide you with bottles of water, cans and bottles of pop (Coke products), cans of beer (I LOVE PITON BEER) and fruit drinks. There is a tablet in the room in which you can request anything you made need. We did bring converter adapters for our plugs but didn’t need as they provided one on our desk that worked for us. There were times in our room, especially first thing in the morning, when our running water supply would be minimal. After a bit it seemed to correct itself and the water pressure would return. At night there is a turn down service. They will leave your slippers by the bed, turn down the sheets, leave a little sweet treat on the bed as well as an activity sheet for the next day. We did have a butler and I cannot say enough about Genesis and Kevin. They are very very busy but always checking in with us. If you have Whats App then they will communicate with you via that. Both of them are very polite, attentive, genuine, amusing and respectful people. They will help reserve anything you may want to do. There are excursions you can take or activities at the resort that may need reserving. For example - there is a Thursday night sunset cruise, rum tasting, wine and champagne tasting, body scrub making class, tie dye making class or even the spa. Note - the spa is very pricey as it is in US dollars and you need to read the fine print for the room credits you are given. If you are looking for a beach resort then look elsewhere. There is a small beach which is a short water taxi ride. We did not go to it at all. We were told by others that the locals are very pushy on the beach. The pool was very pleasant and we met so many new friends there. Note - people go out very early in the morning to set towels on the chairs. You are out of luck for a spot if you do not get there early enough. We think perhaps more cabanas and chairs would warrant it. Honestly, people will never stop holding their chairs even if management ask them not to. In regards to the weather - it was gloriously hot while we were there but you may get a quick downpour at times. It cooled us off for sure and would move on its way. It was really cool to watch the clouds swirl around Marigot Bay. Understandable how it would hold up during a hurricane. The food/dining at Zoetry was fantastic. There is no buffet nor do you need to make a reservation. For breakfast you can eat at the 1461, The Hurricane Hole or The Coco Cafe or even order room service. All of them were wonderful. We already miss our fresh fruit plate from every morning. For lunch we always ate poolside at Le Bateau. Outstanding! To sit poolside and enjoy fish tacos, different types of sushi, Tex mex, fish and chips, chicken burgers, tuna tattaki was surreal! For supper, we enjoyed many different meals such as short ribs, mai mai, lamb chops, pasta, you name it. We typically ate at the Rum Cove, 1461, The Hurricane Hole or our room. The Coco Cafe really reminded me of a St Lucia Starbucks! Lots of different coffees, ice cream and many great sweets! The staff - We would like to give a shout out to all of them. We did have the members we were able to engage with, such as Davidson, Giovanni, Renata, Dionne, the Sushi Chef at Le Bateau (sorry forget his name) and Dwight; but there were many others who were just as fantastic but we didn’t get their name. Also - shout out to the housekeeping/room staff who we could see climbing all those stairs everyday to clean and stock our rooms!!! When it comes to tipping I find the staff did not expect it but were pleased by it with providing a warm smile back to us. Note - this is a very relaxing, upscale Caribbean resort. There is no need to be impatient, you are on vacation. The staff are on their feet all day long in very professional uniform in even more hot weather. Just Be Kind!! We throughly enjoyed watching the super yachts arrive. There were many there during our stay and we found ourselves eating among the owners of them in the restaurants. St Lucia celebrated their Independence Day while we were there so we felt very special witnessing the activities they staged that day! We were sad to have our week in paradise end but Genesis was very organized in our check out and transfer back to the airport and making sure we had bottled water for long ride back. The views on ride back were amazing but the roads…..wow! Have your seat belt on and trust your driver! We would return to the beautiful, quaint, hillside resort of Zoetry Marigot Bay.
