Quaint and relaxing getaway

Vanessa R (Brandon, Canada) on Apr 11, 2024

I’m from Canada and I thoroughly enjoyed my one week vacation at Mystique. With these hard economic times in the world I’m grateful that I was able to visit and experience the beautiful, scenic island of Saint Lucia. I’m honestly flabbergasted at the negative reviews. If you have a negative mindset from the start, you will probably have a negative experience. The Mystique isn’t a 5 star resort and it’s not advertised as a 5 star resort. It’s over 35 years old. It’s not brand new but it’s not in dire straits either. In my eyes, the resort was well-maintained and very clean. The grounds were well kept. The staff were friendly and worked hard to serve guests. I was pleasantly surprised with the room. It was spacious, bright, and clean. Yes it was a little dated but it wasn’t run down at all. Air conditioning worked great. Bed was comfy. I never had a problem with the temperature of the water in the shower. I had to adjust the temperature and patiently wait for the hot water for a few seconds but it’s quite easy to do. The food was satisfactory. Fruit was only served at breakfast. I like eating fresh fruit at all my meals while on vacation. The beach restaurant Mahi’s had good beach food such as homemade burgers, jerk chicken quesadillas and homemade hummus with veggies when we wanted a break from the buffet. We went to Rodney Bay (a 5 minute walk from the resort) for supper once at one of the local restaurants for something different. As I don’t drink alcohol I enjoyed the non alcoholic drinks and diet pop. The food at the a la carte restaurant Chic was tasty. I so loved the vintage decor. It was like you took a step back in time. I’m a beach person. I didn’t step foot once in the pool. Reduit Beach was phenomenal with clear, calm Caribbean water. The beach was long enough to go for nice walks. Sometimes things weren’t on time like the beach towels not being ready in the morning or Mahi’s opening an hour late. Most guests were Westerners and they expect being on time and the instant hustle and bustle of life. On the flip side it’s good exposure to relax, chill out, and go with the flow with island time. If people want new and upscale decor, more selection at the buffet and grand, nightly entertainment I suggest they stay at a newer and larger 5 star resort with 900 rooms or even 400 rooms. You will probably need to pay double or even more of what you paid for at the Mystique. The Mystique has only 95 rooms. It’s an older small, boutique, low key resort, which is what I like and chose it for that reason. I don’t like loud, boisterous places. I like calm and relaxed. I’m glad I stayed on Reduit beach before they tear down the two smaller resorts and build one big resort. Beach and beach chairs: 5 stars Room: 4.5 stars Food: 3 stars Atmosphere, hospitality & staff: 4.5 stars Pool, alcoholic drinks, and nightly entertainment: Not applicable

Great little beach resort

charlieo199 (New Malden, United Kingdom) on Apr 10, 2024

I almost cancelled our trip due to the reviews but the Mystique exceeded all our expectations. I have been lucky enough to stay in fantastic resorts all over the world but this little place is a gem. Yes, the building is tired and dated but the rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. The grounds are well Kept and the pool area has a certain charm. Any problems were attended to promptly. The lovely staff go overboard to make you feel welcome and couldn’t be more attentive. Breakfast and lunch are great as are the drinks. The evening buffet is a little limited but it’s a small price to play for the heavenly beach. Don’t worry about all the negative reviews - just come and have a great time in this heavenly spot before it gets bulldozed and replaced with another soulless mega resort! You won’t regret it if you come with the right attitude! You get a lot more than the price and awful comments might lead you to believe!
