Serenity has been Found

drewgov94 on Sep 06, 2021

My wife and I visited Serenity for 5 nights in celebration of our honeymoon, after we were in the Dominican Republic for 4 nights (Serenity was "Phase 2" of our honeymoon). We very much enjoyed our time at Serenity. The service, food, and drinks were all phenomenal and we felt it was the best we have seen at an all-inclusive resort. The villas are also very nice and provide for a very private getaway on the resort, while still allowing us to enjoy the outdoors while in our villa. A few people we wanted to call out for exceptional service: Firstly, we had Ginel as our server several nights at the Greathouse restaurant and she did a fantastic job making us feel extra special, which was a theme at the resort overall. You don't feel like just "another guest" and everyone will learn who you are after the first night. At the pool bar (which also had amazing food) Charles, Delon, and Lee were great. Johnathan the "Coconut man" also made us some very cool drinks at the pool. In our villa, Rosey from housekeeping always had a new "towel art" design and personal note for us each night of our stay. Overall, we had a fantastic time. One thing we will note is the beach during the time of year we stayed (August) was not the best due to the seaweed, but if you walk out a little ways the water does become much more clear. If the beach is the most important thing to you, we would probably recommend a resort on the Caribbean side of the Island. However, in the winter/spring season the seaweed is likely much less of an issue. We would also mention that Serenity is not a "party resort," which we were totally fine with but is something to note. Every night the resort had entertainment that was very well done but it ended early and things quieted down around 10pm.

Unlike anything else! True Serenity!

KarBarton (Cleveland, Ohio) on Sep 04, 2021

My husband and I went here on our honeymoon and took advantage of the romance package. We spent an additional 3 nights at Ladera. After just a few hours at Ladera we were wishing we had just stayed longer at Serenity. Here is a recap of our trip. The staff: I feel like most people talk about the service and the staff at the end of these reviews. I’m placing it at the beginning because it was so incredible, absolutely unparalleled and I truly believe that hospitality makes or breaks a vacation. We knew going into the vacation that we would be assigned a butler. We weren’t really sure what that meant. We certainly found out. Upon arrival we were shown to our suite by McGregor, our butler. The way he presented the room to us was like a big reveal and it generated so much excitement. He personally demonstrated all of the features of the room for us while we stood there in awe. We noticed there is no front desk check in experience here. This man personally took care of our paperwork and we discussed all the things we would like to get from our trip (excursions, dinners, romance) and he made it happen. McGregor created an itinerary for us. He acted as a stellar concierge and thoughtfully planned out our week so we could make the most of it without needing to do research, make phone calls, or even give it another thought. McGregor also went above and beyond with keeping our room well maintained. People have described butlers as there to get you everything you ask for. We did not experience that because we did not need to ask for anything because McGregor has the ability to anticipate what you will need in advance. It adds a level of feeling important and taken care of. My husband and I felt like royalty. Our fridge was always stocked with our favorite drinks, ice cooler was always full. We returned from dinner one night to a bubble bath with rose petals and champagne which was exactly what we needed that evening after we had briefly got caught in the rain. (Weather was beautiful but it is wet season so rains intermittently) We enjoyed seeing McGregor around the pool area where he would stop working to come talk to us. He spoke to us like we were old friends and chatting with him was something we came to look forward to every morning. McGregor informed us he would personally take care of our laundry and we returned to our room with everything washed, dried, and immaculately folded. Everything from dinner reservations, taxi service, and covid testing was arranged by him. I cannot express how much this changed our vacation. My husband and I are hardworking professionals and the ability to shut off our brains to any logistic responsibilities for a week put us in a mind frame that allowed full relaxation and happiness. It was true Serenity and McGregor as a person, seems to have a natural talent for this role. To say he goes above and beyond is an understatement. We made friends with other couples at the resort and quickly understood that McGregor was the butler you want to have. The others did their jobs well but the couples assigned to McGregor seemed to be have an elevated experience. I truly hope McGregor is there when we come back- we wouldn’t want to be assigned to anyone else. All staff members were amazing and we had not a single negative experience with staff- this includes the workers at Coconut bay the connecting resort. In particular we were taken great care of every day at the pool by Ginell, Jemma, and Kimberly. My husband drank dirty bananas and I enjoyed trying new cocktails every day. I asked them to create a different color drink for us everyday and they did so with enthusiasm- they seemed to like the challenge and the freedom to create something for us that they wanted to make. We also received excellent service from regular bartenders Delon and Ethan. Our first drink on arrival was the Delon special. They make some amazing drinks and we also were waited on by Ethan at the Greathouse and had a great experience. We also enjoyed the towel animals and turn down service. Our room was kept incredibly clean and we received lovely notes morning and night from our cleaning staff Shirley and Tracy. The room: We had the grande (highest end room) but honestly all the rooms were incredible. We loved the outdoor shower and of course the plunge pool. We used the hammock way more than we expected and enjoyed star gazing in it each night. I appreciated how we had a vanity area as it made getting ready so much easier for me. We were worried about there being enough American outlets but there was no need for any converters at all. They even have outlets inside their pool cabanas. I was able to charge my phone while we swam. They’ve really thought of everything here. The food: Everything is incredible. Food and drinks here makes it seem like you’re not at an all inclusive because it is so high quality. Make sure you get the French toast and the calamari. The alcohol is great- we got some drinks at coconut bay and immediately noticed the difference in quality. It is well worth it to eat and drink at Serenity. The exception to that is we enjoyed the Jerk Treehouse at Coconut Bay for lunch one day. We were told by other couples they enjoyed Silk at Cbay also but we never tried it. It was too hard to sacrifice the 5 star dining experience at Serenity to try anything else. Serenity served lobster, tenderloin etc and you receive amouse bouche, sorbet pallate cleansers and it’s a full dining experience that we loved. Experiences: We had a fantastic time with the romance package. Our excursion day was perfect, as was our beach cabana and pool cabana dinner. The couples massage was good but I recommend choosing to have them done inside your room instead of by your plunge pool because it gets hot and uncomfortable (even though it was 9AM) The only disappointment was our sunset cruise. The weather was questionable but they drove us into a large storm swell and most patrons ended up seasick and soaked with rain. I’m sure it’s a lovely cruise in better weather but I felt they should have taken us away from the storm, stayed at the dock, or canceled altogether. Everyone on that trip would have rather spent two more hours at the amazing resort than stuck in a storm at sea. Entertainment: I continuously found myself saying “how are there this many talented people on an island with a population of 180k.” Musical performances were especially impressive. Summary: After staying at Serenity we went to Ladera and were incredibly disappointed. Ladera had a lot of shortcomings but Serenity also set the bar so high that I don’t think we would have been fully happy anywhere else. The portion of our honeymoon spent at Serenity was the best trip of our lives. (We are seasoned AI/Adults Only travelers and were concerned that nothing could meet the standards we were used to. We were blown away. We cannot wait to return.
