Pool unusable as too full of heavily drinking and swearing guys on boys weekends - a shame when your kids are trying to play in it. Room service a shambles but they apologised and took it off our bill. Otherwise a lovely hotel.

Fairmont is Canada's top luxury hotel brand is famous for its unique chateau hotels like the Frontenac, Banff Springs and Lake Louise. These hotels, built in the era of railroad travel, have remained iconic long after visitors stopped arriving by rail and have maintained a level of luxury and service that has not faltered in over a century. In 1993 for the first time in the 20th century Fairmont decided to build an entirely new chateau and they succeeded admirably. The Chateau Whistler has the same grand appearance both inside and outside as the original chateaus. The lobby is enormous and decorated with some really fine art. The rooms are state of the art and the essence of comfort. However what impressed me the most about Chateau Whistler was the staff. First of all there seemed to be hundreds of them. The ratio of staff to guest almost seemed one to one. Whistler is famous for the Aussies and Kiwis who almost have made spending time working there there a rite of passage. They are enthusiast and genuinely seem to care about their jobs and their guests. A lot of high end hotels can be intimidating with their almost condescending staff who make you feel as if it's a privilege for them to take your money. Chateau Whistler is the exact opposite. There is a free shuttle than runs a loop to Whistler village every 15 minutes so you don't need to get in and out of your car. There are also courtesy cars that will take you to the golf course or other places around Whistler. There is a free guest laundry room equipped with soap and fabric softener which is a nice touch. There are a number of restaurants as you would expect and we tried three of them and were quite satisfied although they are pricey. Late September is a great time to visit Whistler as it is almost deserted compared to the two high seasons, especially if you like golf as we do. The Chateau Whistler course is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. beauty that I'll review in a separate post, but notable as the only resort in Whistler that has its own golf course. I have stayed in almost all the Fairmont hotels in Canada and I would rate Chateau Whistler near or at the very top. Oh, and they make a brilliant dry martini at the Mallard Lounge

When you first arrive you are greeted by friendly staff right at the door. Walking in the place smells amazing and all the tram are professional and welcoming even if you are just walking around. Service is very good and the rooms are spacious and clean

There is a good and regular shuttle service into Whistler village but it is a very easy walk. Staff were great and very helpful. The room was a good size and comfortable and we had a view of the gondola and the pool area. There is a grab and go cafe and we took our breakfast from there. The service is good and the food acceptable. Having told the reception staff about our dreadful bear tour experience they were extremely kind and provided some ‘goodies’ which were very much appreciated even though they did not organise the tour. Whistler Village is very small but good for the range of restaurants and shops including supermarkets. After our dreadful NO bear tour experience the hotel staff recommended we walk by the Whistler golf course which is under renovation to see bears which we did [two!]

The room was lovely and the staff made it their mission to ensure you had a good time. I have to give a shout out to AJ, Allen MacDonald and Lucas for a wonderful time. The soup in the restaurant is so good. Aaron in the restaurant was wonderful too! The hotel was clean, pool and hot tub wonderful. Just a wonderful experience overall!
