My view

rastewa on Feb 24, 2024

My take on just returning from Tainos, varadero. The resort is lovely and most of the staff exceptional. Rain and wind no one's fault. The not so good. We were 3 women in a bungalow room. An extra bed was brought in. The sheets were for a smaller bed, the blanket for a twin. The first turn over resulted in an unmade bed, the sheets migrated to the middle. I did ask for an extra sheet to put 2 crossways, and was sent another sheet that worked great for 2 nights, before they were changed again. Not pleasant to have to sleep on a bare blood stained mattress. The shower stall was never cleaned. The drain was plugged. We took to showering in sandles. One shower would leave 1/2 of the shower stall with standing water, 2 showers it was nearly full, and 3 had it running into the sink area. Yes I did ask at the desk for someone to come and look at it, no one showed. I finally 'plunged ' it with my sandle clad foot and got it to drain better, but man how unsanitary. One cockroach in the bathroom, numerous small bugs around the food daily. Bathroom sink remained greasy, taps never wiped. So all in all, lovely gardens, lovely setting, it looks tidy, but far from clean. Food, they did the best they could. Havana tour, booked through the hotel, was a huge letdown. Not 5 mins into the drive, the tour guide started his spiel to book further trips with him. First stop the fortress which essentially contains a gift shop for rum and cigars. This was not what we wanted from a private tour. The tour guide did ask where we wanted to go, what we wanted to do, a prepared list was given to him, and it went largely ignored. He had his own agenda. The worst part, after talking to other guests who said they payed $150. canadian for 4 people, and got the same trip. Our cost $220 for 3 people. Catamaran tour to snorkle.. is great if you want to watch 25-30 year olds drink themselves silly. I'm sure my rant will cause lots of -, but its my view.

Great resort, beautiful beach, lovely staff!

Jennifer S on Feb 22, 2024

My family came to Iberostar Tainos for a week in February 2024. We were seeking sun, sand, and a break from our Canadian winter. We got it! The resort is small but I think that is a strength. The grounds were beautifully kept. We stayed in a ground level, garden-view bungalow and it was plenty big with a comfortable king size bed and balcony. There was a banana tree outside our balcony! The staff come in every day to make up the room and leave fresh water. Our daughters stayed in a second level bungalow room nearby. We had some issues with the room keys not working but they were quickly resolved at the front desk. The pool area was clean and inviting and we were always able to find chairs and umbrellas. There is fairly loud music playing throughout the day. Staff try to get you up and moving with various poolside activities. Pool/beach towels are provided and can be exchanged throughout the week, just bring them back when you check out. The beach is incredible! Soft, white sand that stretches out for ages. Very good swimming. The water is clear and warm, even in February (although not to the locals!) There are plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Paddleboards, kayaks and catamarans are available. Food is plentiful. It took us a couple of days to find what we liked to eat at the buffet but then we were good to go! The a la carte restaurants require reservations, so do that as soon as you arrive. We particularly liked the Japanese restaurant. The staff were very warm and friendly at Tainos! They go out of their way to smile, get to know you, and to make your stay pleasant. We had a good and memorable stay and hope to be back someday!
