Lovely room due to upgrade from staff; however there is no AC throughout hotel & property is dated. 3 Star Reviews

Three-star reviews on Trip Advisor and elsewhere make sense. THIS HOTEL has NO A/C and common spaces and rooms are very stuffy, particularly the basement billiards room and games room. We noticed fans in other rooms as we walked the halls on occasion; however, staff did not open any windows to freshen the air when they were cleaning which would have helped greatly. The grounds of the Royal Scot Hotel & Suites are lovely and added a lot to our stay. Unfortunately the odor of malathion was faint in the air coming into our room. I noticed there were no songbirds in the trees on the property which is sad.... We were fortunate to be upgraded to the Royal Suite, a one bedroom with a full kitchen and a corner unit that caught the fresh cool air in the mornings and evenings. The trees outside the window were a blessing. Rooms are clean, however furnishings are outdated and quaint albeit extremely comfortable. A small trashcan in the main bedroom would have been nice. The bathroom was updated and remodeled and quite nice. (we had a broken shower head and faucet handle which were eventually repaired.) The gentleman in the gift shop was on his phone watching movies every time I came in and hardly acknowledged my presence, which was disconcerting. The hotel restaurant ( a separate business) is only open for breakfast and lunch and seems a bit overpriced. Better signage in the lobby would be helpful, i.e. for the restrooms, ATM and so on. Moving all the travel brochures and info to the lobby would have been helpful as well, rather than hidden around the corner in an alcove. TVs have NO Cable or streaming--all channels are Canadian or older US shows and Seattle news stations. DVD's are available down in the games room; however, the selection is quite dated and/or unappealing content-wise, if TV watching is important to you/your family. Staff are all helpful and accomodating, especially the shuttle driver. The convenience of a hotel room/small apt. was definitely a plus, as we were able to make our morning breakfast and bring in food for dinner. US Travelers change your money before you come as the hotel will not change currency and you'll be out 25 cents on the dollar if you need change for anything. Using the ATM for withdrawals is the best bet.
Clean, comfortable and excellent value

3rd time in 5-years we’ve stayed at Royal Scot Inn & Suites in Victoria. It’s an older property but ultra-clean, excellent comfy beds, very large rooms, quiet, great staff, full kitchen, coffeemaker, microwave, only one block away from Blackball ferry, BC Museum, Empress Hotel, Govt Buildings, close to everything! Features: WiFi, lovely indoor pool, spa and exercise equipment, game room, coin-op laundry, complimentary newspaper, Jonathans restaurant (breakfast/Lunch). No air-conditioning but fans keep the rooms comfortable. Five-star rating…excellent value, will definitely return again. Thank you!
