Wonderful Stay at a Fantastic Location

robertaN1343TZ (Matlock, United Kingdom) on Apr 28, 2024

After reading some of the reviews on here before we arrived we were slightly apprehensive. All I can say is that the "poor" reviewers must have stayed at a different hotel. Admittedly the reception staff were not the most welcoming and it was a big queue to check in, but this hotel cannot be beaten for location. On arrival we got to our room to find that there was no hot water. Dale, the maintenance man, soon arrived and found that there was an issue with the heating element. The reception staff changed our room to the one directly above, which had the exact same issue. Again, Dale was on hand to resolve this and we were again changed room. This time no issues and definitely no complaints. The room had a wonderful sea view and the bed was extremely comfortable with good pillows. Maureen, the domestic staff for the floor, was amazing and kept the room immaculate throughout our stay, daily changing towels and bedding and ensuring we had enough water. Nothing was too much trouble and you could tell she took great pride in her work. Her hospital corners were amazing. Samantha, Sandra and the staff in the dining room were great, always greeting us with a smile and asking how our day was. There was always a good selection of foods available, mainly local cuisine which was great. Breakfast was a good mix of British, ie sausage and bacon, and local food such as fishcakes and bakes. We had no issues with birds, but we always sat inside. Location wise, this hotel is directly on the seafront on Maxwell coast road with a wonderful section of beach and turtles clearly visible from the hotel. Desiree, the activities co-ordinator was wonderful and always had time to talk to the guests. Top Tip, go on the Saint Lawrence Gap guided tour with Desiree. It was a great tour and Desiree is very knowledgeable about the area and the location, and it is a complimentary tour from the hotel. One thing to note, always double check the pick up times for when you are leaving, as there was some confusion with ours. All in all a great holiday and we would happily stay here again. Once again a huge thank you to Desiree, Dale, Dwayne, Maureen, Morrison, Samantha and all the staff in the dining room for making our holiday so good and memorable.

Good for a 3 star hotel

stuartbC9034SR on Apr 27, 2024

The hotel was good for a 3 star. I couldn't fault the room size and the sea view, which I think all rooms have, the pool was good and suited for everyone, starting very shallow and going down to 2.4 metres. There was a lack of sun beds and also umbrellas for shade. The bar was good and generally not a long wait for drinks, the food was good although not a large choice, the birds were a bit of a nuisance and the 2 arches where they got in could do with some mesh the same as the rest. Staff in the restaurant could be a little more pleased to see people. My main problem was the WiFi which it stated was in all areas, but definitely not the rooms and we were only on the first floor, also round the side of the building you lost it. Over all I can't really complain and we enjoyed our stay.

First visit to Barbados Beach Club

Paul C (Stockport, United Kingdom) on Apr 19, 2024

Our first time at the Barbados Beach Club and we enjoyed our stay enormously. We were given a room upgrade at reception due to Virgin not sending any paperwork through which was a nice gesture by the hotel. The room overlooked the pool and bar area and a great view of the sea. The food was fine and plenty of choice both at lunch and dinner. Breakfast was a mix and catered for everyone. A special mention to the manager of the site who always had time for a chat and greeted you with a smile when he meet you throughout the day. Also to all the ladies in the restaurants great job by you all, bar staff ?? can't remember waiting for a drink. The beach is excellent and a mention to the guys who put the umbrellas up, Thanks Thanks to the reception staff and the young lady who worked so hard on the entertainment and daily activities ?? I did wear a T/shirt that was liked by the staff, I Want Mudda it brought a smile to their faces Last but not least the entertainment was very good See you again Paul and Caroline Carolan ?

Lovely beach, sea view decent room, old hotel.

schnoozeuk (London, United Kingdom) on Apr 17, 2024

This is an old hotel directly on a beautiful uncrowded white sand beach. I think some perspective is needed. Yes, the reception on arrival was about as welcoming as a government parking fine office, yes the bathroom was tired, yes there really could be more sun loungers around the pool and yes the food is ok but not close to the standard and variety you might get elsewhere. There is also nothing walkable to do immediately around the hotel. And there is a mango tree growing out of one side of the tennis court. It must have been a much higher end place when it was new…. But…. Many of the rooms have a lovely sea view, the room was decent sized with a good aircon and nice balcony, well equipped (fridge, bottled water, tea coffee iron) and clean. The pool is not huge but perfectly nice and deep in half of it for swimming. But the point here is being on such a nice beach - and that the two hotels further down on the same beach cost easily three times as much but where you will be amongst hundreds of people crammed in a row with a high chance of a room overlooking a car park or a random patch of trees. This is much quieter and smaller with no issue in getting a great spot with sun loungers and sun umbrella (thank you, Stephen!) where the kids can play all day jumping in and out of the waves. If it gets a bit rough walk up the beach to Sandals, where the reef means a much calmer sea and a life guard. There is also a pleasant quieter garden to one side by the turtle enclosure if the music around the pool is a bit loud for you. I get the impression that many people staying here are straight off a cruise and inevitably will find the hotel a bit of downer. Desiree was wonderful but it’s true a few of the other staff clearly don’t like people, (or maybe Brits) or their job much, which would benefit from some training or on the ground leadership. But you need to look at this for what it is - a fanatic location if you want a nice room directly on a beautiful stretch of white sand which will cost you a fraction of the other hotels on the same beach. I wouldn’t use the cooked red wine to unblock drains so drink the beer, white or rose and the really rather good banana and strawberry daiquiris . Be nice to the staff and they will be nice back. And with regard to some of the other reviews - they fixed the problem with the birds flying all over the dining area whilst we there by fitting a door to the place.
