Dissapointing

233jilld (Perth, Australia) on Apr 27, 2024

Pros: the location is fabulous! The beach is really lovely and clean. Snorkelling off the beach is fabulous over the rocks! Cons: it’s hard to know where to start? At first the rooms appear roomy and light with fab views across the ocean…until you look a bit further, they are not so clean and need maintenance attention. Although the beach is wonderful, you will be lucky to get a sunbed on the beach as they are reserved by early risers from 5am onwards ??. There are not enough sunbeds to go around on the beach. The sunbeds by the pool are readily available but have no shade or parasols ?? The restaurant: very mediocre, food never hot and very repetitive. Never had a teaspoon the whole time, so you get used to stirring your coffee with the end of your fork! Breakfast tea was never available throughout our stay even after asking for it at day 1. Restaurant staff are very rude and simply don’t care…I’m not sure why this attitude is but believe me, it’s quite severe and Carry’s through to the bar staff too ?? The wait staff are very hit & miss… you may get served- you might not. Never been to an all inclusive before where there is a tip jar at the breakfast omelette station and if you don’t tip - you don’t get! We tried the coffee bar which was open but no staff there to serve? We went to the snack bar as we missed the breakfast, was supposed to be open 11am…still no staff there at 11.30am so just left ????? Went to the sister hotel next door for the evening entertainment…the bar staff are very rude, customer service is NOT within their job description obviously…I’ve never come across such rude staff at a hotel… EVER! So…this hotel has a fabulous location but is severely lacking in EVERYTHING ELSE!

A Birthday Ruined at Royal Decameron Cornwall, Jamaica!!!

April B (Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania) on Apr 24, 2024

My recent stay at the Royal Decameron Cornwall in Jamaica was, without a doubt, the worst hotel experience I have ever endured. What was meant to be a joyous celebration of a milestone birthday turned into a series of frustrating and unpleasant encounters that marred the entire trip. From the get-go, the service was abysmal. The staff at meal times displayed unprofessional attitudes; they seemed utterly disinterested in their duties, often letting us know they were off shift in the most disrespectful ways imaginable—eye-rolling, huffing, and puffing included. Their lack of hospitality made each dining experience more dreadful than the last. The condition of the rooms was shockingly poor. Initially, my room had no running water, a stopped-up toilet, and a broken safe—essentials you’d expect any decent hotel to manage flawlessly. After repacking and moving to another room, hoping for improvement, I was met with more of the same: no hot water and continual plumbing issues. To add insult to injury, obtaining clean towels felt like a Herculean task, with the staff often informing us none were available, without any attempt to resolve the situation. Even basic housekeeping services failed miserably. Rooms were left as dirty post-cleaning as they were before, which suggests a severe negligence in maintaining hygiene standards. As for the food, it was consistently unappetizing and poorly prepared, far below the expectations for a hotel of this supposed caliber. I am utterly disappointed with my experience at the Royal Decameron Cornwall and will be taking this matter up with corporate. For a hotel that markets itself as a premium destination, my experience was anything but. I strongly advise against staying here—there are far better options in Jamaica that truly understand the meaning of hospitality and guest satisfaction.

Great hotel, not the Ritz but clean with great facilities and close to airport

Yvonne C on Apr 21, 2024

ave just returned from Royal Decameron Cornwall beach I had a wonderful 5 days. The food was delicious especially the chicken curry and jerk chicken and sword fish but they had basic food for children too pasta, fries, sandwiches, soups. The roast beef was amazing, fresh fruits and fresh salad items. If I was to say anything negative a few gluten free deserts would have been nice and they ran out of tetley British blend tea, my favorite as I don’t drink coffee but I managed to get some at the sister hotel. Bed very comfortable slept well, room clean. Staff very helpful. The bathroom decor was a little old but bedroom spacious and modern, we had 3 beds in our room, sheets were white good quality cotton great pillows and air con worked well. . We always had plenty of towels for bathroom and beach. Lovely coffee lounge on second floor which we enjoyed in the evenings. Entertainment was great around the pool I did water aerobics and played bingo. Pool large and clean. I used ‘next level’ taxi service to get to and from airport to hotel very professionally and reliable at a reasonable price.. Only negative was on one day our toilet wouldn’t flush but Maintenance fixed it swiftly. Had a great view from room, plenty of available sun beds around pool and beach. Beach was beautiful. I can’t wait to return. Simone on reception was lovely as were the bar staff around pool and dining room staff. I don’t know who writes the horrible negative reviews, must be a competitor because I read them all before arriving expected the worst but found the hotel clean, plenty of towels and sun beds and staff to be pleasant and dining amazing. Thank you Royal Decameron Cornwall beach ! I have stayed at the sister hotel next door last year also pleasant smaller selection of food and it’s an older property but slightly cheaper if your on a budget. Tip:.take plenty of sunscreen and a hat the sunshine was wonderful but we all got very burnt ??

Relaxing stay!

Erin C on Apr 21, 2024

Great stay, great people. Beautiful property. My only negative issue was not being able to order a non alcoholic beverage. My partner doesn't drink alcohol and had a hard time being served just a coke or iced tea. Kind of odd.

Long but honest review

Gireesh M (Irlam, United Kingdom) on Apr 16, 2024

Get yourself a brew, sit back relax and read this long review. We had a family holiday staying at the Royal Decameron Cornwall Beach from 7th April to 14th April. After reading the reviews I was very apprehensive about the hotel. However, I was very happily surprised. I can understand some of the negative reviews, but it’s what and how you deal with them that’ll ruin or make your holiday. Don’t get me wrong, some things were not perfect, however, the overall experience was great. The issues we had were mainly with check in and a few issues with the room. We had to book two separate rooms but asked the travel agent (TUI in our case) to request interconnecting rooms or rooms next to each other. However, rooms are allocated by the hotel at check in, which is understandable otherwise everyone would request the rooms with the best view. So unfortunately we didn’t end up with rooms next to each other or on the same floor. Did this ruin our holiday? No, no it didn’t. We just made the most of it. We originally were to have two rooms a couple of doors away from each other, but our room was sadly left in a very bad way by the previous occupants and was not fit to stay in so we ended up in room 1102. My wife’s room, which was 1202, had issues with the lights, the main light in the bedroom had fused, and the manager moved them to another room, being 1211. Again, not ideal but didn’t cause any issues apart from the 10 minutes to change rooms. Yes the rooms are a little dated and could do with an update but they had everything you’d need. Yes the water pressure isn’t great but again did this spoil the holiday? No it didn’t. The water wasn’t exactly hot, but was warm enough for me to shower, and in that heat why would anyone want a really hot shower? Did that spoil the holiday? No it didn’t. House keeping didn’t leave clean towels on two occasions I had to go to reception for new towels, yes that was a bit of a pain and you shouldn’t have to ask for clean towels. However, I’ve stayed at other higher rated hotels in different countries and have had this issue before, so this hotel is not alone. The good thing was the towels were given straight away. So all ended well. The food never ran out as some people have complained about. The food was a little repetitive but nonetheless was always hot, tasty and plentiful. Ranging from jerk chicken (as you’d expect??) to hotdogs and fries. The food style was obviously Caribbean. The goat curry, bbq pork and of course the french toast was amazing, We also dined at the Al a carte restaurants, the Caribbean one was great, lovely food and staff. The Mediterranean one was a little bit of a let down but only for me. My kids and wife enjoyed the meals they ordered. I decided on the chicken risotto, which didn’t look anything like a risotto but was still tasty. Some people would pile food so high on their plates that it looked like they’d not eaten for weeks, only to leave half of it. Not the hotels fault, but just some very greedy and self entitled people. We only took a bit at time knowing we could always go and get more of what we liked. A large majority of the staff were brilliant, friendly, smiling, welcoming and helpful. Yes some of them looked liked they didn’t want to be there and were not helpful, I’ve experienced the same at other higher rated hotels too. Special shout out to Buju, Snoop, Courtney and MJ at the pool bar, they were brilliant! Had me laughing my head off and joked along with them the whole week. Remembered my name and what me and my family drank. Shaneka at the buffet was always smiling and always happy and helpful. Others were too but sadly I didn’t get their names. I didn’t need to get up at 6am to “hog” sun loungers on the beach. There were always some available. Had Red Stripe on tap almost everyday. Some people complained about the alcohol not being ‘named’ brands, not sure why though, as other all inclusive places I’ve stayed served local liquor. I thought the drinks were all good. Loved the strawberry daiquiris and pina coladas, lovely and refreshing. I would bring insulated cups/bottles though as the drinks will stay cooler longer, or you could do what I did…..drink them quicker and order more ??. Yes there is the smell of weed now and again but not everywhere like some people have said. All in all it was a great holiday, my kids loved it and that’s all that matters to me. The location of the hotel is great, about 10 mins in a taxi from the airport. Has a great beach, be careful though the beach slopes away into the sea quite steeply. You could be knee deep one minute, take two steps and be almost chest deep! Snorkelling was great but visibility wasn’t too great but that could just be because of the time of year, some days were better than others.
