Spacious studios great for a bunch, but couples - save the at least 150$ plus tax cleaning fee!

Maui Eldorado by Outrigger at Kaanapali Beach We arrived after we had stayed in a tranquil hotel in Waikoloa/Big Island, so the difference in everything was huge. First of all they claim a check-in fee of 60$ per stay (we had known about this one before; but still don’t know what it should be for? Do you get anything for it?), but wanted to charge the “resort fee” of 68$ as well - though our agency had already paid for it long ago. First disappointment. The receptionist told us that we had to deal with this ourselves with the Outrigger company - and just after asking a more experienced colleague she cancelled this fee. But wait, on the receipt it still said “due: 68$”, so we had her cross it out and sign it before a new discussion starts at check-out. But then the next disappointing fact came across: they charge a “cleaning fee” of at least 150$ plus tax (!; sorry, but can’t the US just show all incl prices? That’s a good thing in Germany, you always know what you will have to pay in total). The cleaning fee ranges from 150$ per studio to 250$ per 2-room-apartment. Plus tax. And what for? Because there is no one coming by to clean every day; not even to make the beds, get the trash out or supply new towels. So what for? You could say we chose this ourselves, and that’s absolutely right, but I hate feeling mugged as a tourist. Because we were naive to believe the “additional cleaning fee” could maybe be less than the check-in fee. And having to pay 210$ plus tax for an already paid stay - that’s unnecessary and feels awful. Especially since the studio wasn’t super clean. There were old stains everywhere (couch, ceiling, curtains, even sheets). I don’t expect luxury by choosing such a place instead of a beachfront hotel, but I do expect value for money. So, if you’re traveling with kids and grands and all, go there, use the resort to the fullest and pay 250$ plus tax after your 2-weeks stay. But if you are a couple, spending four nights on Maui, choose a beachfront hotel, instead of paying additional 210$ plus tax for a non-serviced studio. To add facts: they offer parking (height limit quite low!), a pool at the top of the parking, a gym and a beach cabana where you get chairs and towels. This is the good part. Little disadvantage: there’s a golf course in between your studio and the beach, but that only takes around 5mins walking and is simply a minor (and known before) disadvantage. Another add on: two nights before check-out one of the staff came by to heavily bang the front door (my boyfriend was doing some Freeletics, I was still at the beach; told you: Beach Cabana - good thing here) and to drop another letter telling us that we still had to pay the “cleaning fee” at the Outrigger office at the Fairway Shops next door. Two nights before check-out! They seem pretty anxious about their fees. And just so you know: even while we tried to pay then, our credit card didn’t work with the Outrigger system, so we had to pay cash, which meant getting cash from the atm, which meant another fee (~4$). Outrigger simply doesn’t seem to be our company...
Honeymoon Visit

I cannot say enough good things about the Maui Eldorado. It’s not much to look at from the outside, but I have stayed in their two bedroom condos twice now and each time the amenities were abundant and the service was great. It’s a short walk to whalers village which boasts lots of great shops and restaurants, it’s less than a 10 minute drive to front street, and not to mention you’re a 5 minute walk or a short golf cart ride to one of the best beaches I’ve ever swam in (shout out to the Royal Kaanapali Beach ?? ??) the staff is friendly, garage parking is offered, and the space really makes you feel like you’re at home in paradise. I’m impartial to the west side of the island so this place takes the cake for me. I will 100% stay here again. If I had the funds I would purchase a space here right now!

Aloha definitely awaits at this condo complex. This was our 9th visit and the best yet. Normally, we stay in studios but this time we had a one bedroom condo (J114) and it was beautiful. We love Maui and we love the Eldorado
J110 - More renovation needed
Reviewed by 995shirleyv(Ka'anapali, Hawaii) on Oct 15, 2019
This unit is advertised as fully renovated but was not. It does have new flooring in studio area but kitchen and bathroom floor looks like the original or at least from a previous era. The ceiling fans are nice and the bathroom vanity/sink are new. The bathtub is very old and worn. There have been lots water damage to the fixtures and baseboards. The kitchen is tiny with no counter space to work from, so if you plan to cook, like we do, this is not the best place. The windows and sliding glass doors are all old and difficult to open and close. The curtains are all stained from moisture on the outside. The bed was comfortable with the addition of the topper but definitely the mattress is broken down. We rented 4 units for this trip and they were all in various states of condition from very nice being actually fully renovated to not so much (like this one). All cost the same per week, so I guess it depends when you travel on how lucky you will be with your accommodations. I've added photos to show why I cannot agree with the fully renovated description.
Almost perfect for our needs

We stayed in unit B206. The management of the complex was good, mostly very responsive. Our unit has most of our needs and wants. The kitchen was stocked well but some things were lacking. (We has to buy a pitcher but there were tons of baking supplies—who spends their vacation in Maui baking?!?). The layout of the unit left much to be desired but we worked around it. The washer dryer was tiny!!! I could often hear traffic from the second bedroom. I don’t think any units are on the beach. It is a nice, quiet complex with great pools and easy access to the beach. We would stay here again and feel we got good value for the price.
