A Practical Review of the Fairmont Hotel (if that is possible!)

So, my wife and I spent several days at the Fairmont hotel for a little getaway from the Midwest. Let's start with the pros: 1) Wow Factor: The hotel is historic and is very elegant. What a landmark! 2) Cleanliness: There is a lot of TLC that goes into keeping this massive hotel so clean. Our room was spotless and every area we visited was well kept. Well done! 3) Tonga Room: What a unique gem. A floating band, specialty drinks, and a decor that will transport you to the islands. Wonderful! Now a couple of Cons: 1) Thin walls! You can literally hear every word of the conversation in the next room. We were awoken a couple times due to phone conversations. 2) Scaling the Hill: If you plan on walking around town (we definitely did...), Be prepared for a mighty climb up a very steep hill (Nob Hill). This is not the hotel's fault...but worth a call out. Lastly, we did enjoy the fitness center. Free weights, classes and cardio machines. Very nice for any hotel. Also, the staff were very pleasant. I wouldn't say over the top service, but there is a focus on keeping customers comfortable and happy. Thank you Fairmont Hotel!

The building is striking, as is the entrance to the hotel. Unfortunately our room was quite dated, in particular the bathroom and rather small. Whilst there was nothing 'wrong' with our stay, it was not value for money and next time I would try elsewhere. We were also not told about the bar in the basement, which we only found out about from our Uber driver on the way back to the airport which was a shame.

Such a beautiful, clean hotel with marvelous food. The service is outstanding and you really feel like you are being taken care of. Inside the hotel are several shops & a dance club. Need some fresh air then walk out on the 4th Floor to find a garden & patio seating. You won't believe your on a rooftop. Inside one shop I actually found a great pair of walking shoes for under $90 (super comfy & cute). We were able to walk to a lot of places from the hotel. Don't want to walk to the Pier then Uber is there within 3 minutes. The rooms are clean & comfortable. If you need room service well, that was great too! I would definitely stay again.

Friendly service, lovely room, great location on the cable car route; walk down to Union Square or to Fisherman's Wharf very easy, though steep for return trip; Great property at an affordable price. We enjoyed a great breakfast, and had drinks in the Tonga Room downstairs--islands decor with a makeshift rainforest!

    Stay elsewhere

This hotel is highly overrated. The furniture was dusty. We had no coffee cups and had to call to request some. The service in the Laurel Court restaurant was awful. We had to try to flag someone down in order to even order drinks. When our food finally came out they forgot part of someone’s order. The wait staff appeared to be overwhelmed and unable to keep up with the amount of people needing served. We were much happier with the overall cleanliness and service at a less expensive hotel around the corner. We won’t be back.
