If you are looking for a luxury resort, this isn’t it. Rooms need serious updating

Briar P on May 04, 2024

The hotel is under going construction which did not bother us. The pools are nice and the water taxis to Universal are a big time saver in getting to the park. The room was very dated and worn. When we walked into the room, our impressions were the same - what a dump for $450 a night. Bathroom vanity was chipped and dented, no USB ports for charging, electrical outlets were so worn when you plugged something in, the plugs would fall half way out. The door to the room had to be double checked that it locked because it would not close on its own. There was a gap between the door frame and door which did not make us feel safe. At night it was very obvious as light would highlight the issue. Hotel staff really was not really concerned and said well that’s the way our rooms are. Stay somewhere else as this hotel is not worth the money.

It’s a building site.

Linda B (Manchester, United Kingdom) on May 01, 2024

This hotel is a building site. Covered in Scaffolding. No mention of this at time of booking. Very deceitful. The restaurants are like dungeons. Due to fabric coverings to hide the building site. And of course you get the complete building experience- noise, inhaling solvents as you go for breakfast. Pool staff brilliant.. Great service.

Loews Portofino

Miguel T on May 01, 2024

The hotel is very beautiful, When we pulled up, we were greeted immediately by valet and bellhop. We only waited a few minutes at check-in when we were greeted by Natalie, she checked us in and was able to get us in our room earlier than expected (we were so thankful especially after driving four hours). It was so nice to have the fairy take us back and forth to the parks, no wait on the check bag lines. We had one hiccup, but it was taken care of by Aaron (the front desk manager). He was very polite and sympathetic to our issue and did everything he could to help us with her issue. We are looking forward to our next stay.

Under construction

Queen_of_the_hw (Dublin, Ireland) on May 01, 2024

Hotel is not suitable for occupancy based on the vast construction happening. Dust, noise, hoarding, construction vehicles and workmen everywhere. All outdoor dining and seating areas closed. No live music on the balcony. Very disappointing for a great hotel. Construction will continue until December 2024.

Great time - we would stay again

ElizabethFinn (Millbury, Massachusetts) on May 01, 2024

My family of 4 just got back from 6 nights at Portofino Bay. Even with the construction, we had a wonderful time and would stay here again on our next visit. I had been trying to decide between this and a kids suite at a lower tier hotel, and I'm GLAD we chose Portofino Bay... here's why - 1) Fast Pass - SO WORTH IT, even on slow days, we walked on to rides where others were waiting for 25+ min 2) Hotel was nice - we got a great bedroom, comfy beds, 6th floor facing the pool - it was quiet and perfect 3) Club Level - do it, just do it... it wasn't much more $ for us (relatively speaking) and we ate breakfast there every day, grabbed snacks, drinks during happy hour and dinner a few nights 4) Water taxis were great, we walked to Universal one morning too, it was a beautiful and easy walk 5) Staff was wonderful - SO MANY lifeguards! there were 3-5 at all times at the kids pool (amazing pool) with a waterslide... They did such a good job. I heard they are moving construction more poolside soon, so I'm not sure how that will impact, but if we come next year, we will book here! It was a lot of fun!
