We stayed for 1 week in an oceanfront room and have to say I loved the resort. We like smaller resorts but this was the smallest we ever have been to. We were on the first floor in room 112 and the room was small but nice. I am a tall person (6' 11") and found that everything was just a bit small at the resort, especially the bathroom. The food was limited but VERY good at the buffet for dinner and breakfast, lunch was hit or miss. With a limited selection if you are a picky eater you may have issues, my wife hates peppers and one day everything seemed to have peppers so it was not a good dinner that night. The grill for lunch was ok, overcooked small burgers in huge rolls, Great hotdogs with again huge rolls and a few other selections that were tasty. The main bar and the pool bar were nice and made good drinks but the service was not speedy. The slower service did help slow the fast consumption that happens at all inclusive but one drink at a time being made means that 4 blender drinks happen before a simple drink is poured. A little multitasking would help. Sizzle is good, we went twice but it is an extra charge for many of the meals, it was not THAT impressive. The room keys as bracelets is an absolute genius idea, never forget or lose your key! One thing I think was a big fail is towel cards. With what this resort costs no one is going to steal the cheap pool towels and telling me that if I lose my towel you are going to charge me is stupid. The towel hut is also not near the main pool so you have to go for a walk for a new towel, Just put a pile of towels out and a bin to collect the used ones

This is a lovely hotel. The public areas are kept very clean and the decor is good. Rooms are large and the beds are comfortable. The bathroom could do with a bit of upgrading but it is clean and towels are supplied every other day.The beach area is also kept clean and the chairs and umbrellas are well looked after. Beach towels are provided but on one or two days they didn't have any replacements. All the staff are efficient, friendly and very well dressed. It is difficult to say that any one was better than another but there were three that excelled - Darian, Taurian and Romian. I will definitely go to this hotel again.

This was the first visit to Barbados for my wife and I, who was celebrating her 50th birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted with a glass of rum punch and a ice cold towel to refresh our face, which was very welcome in the 30 degree heat. The check in process took all of 10 minutes, maximum. The staff at sugar bay made you feel very welcome and were very attentive. After check in we were taken to our room which was at the back of the hotel in front of the spa, on the top (3rd) floor with our balcony overlooking lush gardens, where we saw a little monkey in the tree. Our room was nice and airy and our balcony shaded during the day, which I didn't mind for some relief from the sun. There was hair dryer, ironing board and iron, and sufficient wardrobe and cupboard/drawers for clothes. A walk in shower which always supplied hot water during our stay, day and night. The air conditioning unit was lovely and cool and the fridge was always stocked with a couple of bottles of water each day, (more available from reception). Our room was always perfectly cleaned each day and was very quiet. Room 351. The food choice is plentiful at the Reef buffet restaurant. For breakfast there was the usual choices of bacon, beans, chipolata sausages, scrambled eggs, freshly cooked omelette etc. As well as half a dozen pastry choices, half a dozen breakfast cakes, fresh fruit including strawberries, blueberries, melon, pineapple, grapefruit, grapes, bananas and more; variety of yogurts; cold meat and salami; variety of cheeses and breads; smoked salmon; waffles with syrups, jams and chutneys; and daily changes including fried plantains, grilled vegetables, mushrooms and tomatoes, potato dishes, corned beef hash, salt fish and more. (If anyone cannot find something they like in that choice, you might as well stay at home). The lunch and evening choices were just as plentiful as well as being themed each night. There was also Colin's beach bar and grill at lunch times with daily fresh fish choice, burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken etc etc. The two speciality restaurants you could visit anytime, once each per week. Umi - a truly authentic Japanese and Asian restaurant; Sizzle Steakhouse - mouthwatering tender steaks and fish etc. Three courses at both restaurants, both impeccable service. Try the banana bay or coconut park cocktails at the Sizzle Steakhouse. The bar staff at the reef bar were cheery, chatty and friendly and nothing was two much trouble. We had countless cocktails, even saying flavours we liked for them to create bespoke drinks. The pool was a little on the small side and quite shallow, but in the 10 days we were there it was never over crowded and there were always sunbeds available when we wanted one. On the beach there were plenty of sunbeds, hammocks, four poster loungers, where you could enjoy the peace and tranquility of Barbados. We did have seaweed for a few days, but this came and went and it's mother nature, so we didn't let it spoil the holiday. We explored the island, went on a catamaran trip 'Calabaza' well worth the extra $$, only 11 people on the catamaran. We also visited a Carlisle beach. You can haggle a couple of sunbeds, umbrella and a couple of bottles of banks beer for $20 US. The evening entertainment was varied from bands, to girl group singers, to limbo dancers and steel drums, there was something for everyone. The best part of staying at Sugar bay is the staff. To the cleaners forever attending to the toilets and the lobby and the rooms. The girls on reception, especially Cherrise who was always full of cheer, helpfulness and sincerity. The gardeners, who kept the gardens looking so beautiful and well maintained. The porters and luggage attendants; the water sports/beach attendant guys who would sort you out for a snorkel or kayak or umbrella on the beach, especially Taureen, who was fab. The bar staff at the reef, Colin's bar, the pool bar were all fantastic. But my cap of to the guys on the beach for constantly walking up and down fetching drinks all day long. And at the end of the day a cool towel and an iced jelly. Well done to gabriel, but a special well done and many thanks go to 'Darien' for making our stay the most memorable holiday from the first day to the last. He deserves employee of the month!!! Thank you Sugar Bay.....we WILL be back!!!

Absolutely fantastic hotel staff are very friendly - here to celebrate a 50th birthday. Enjoying the early morning swims in the sea. Went to the cocktail party this evening (7 May) the manager introduced himself and was chatting to myself and 3 friends whilst talking to us he was approached by a male and then completely ignored us - how rude!! We walked away. However this will not affect our opinion of Sugar Bay as the actual workers go out of their way to attentive.

Our first visit to Barbados, and we picked an amazing hotel. Very colonial in style, the first thing that hits you at reception is the open view of the sea, and the fabulous white beach. Food, homely and delicious, there wasn’t one meal that I didn’t like, and I am a fussy eater ! We had a sea view room where we spent many happy hours reading and taking in the most incredible views of the crystal clear water and watching the surfers. We spotted one monkey while we were there, it made our day. Talking to the staff though, apparently they come out early in the morning, or late at night, and mainly go where there are mango trees. Rooms need an update, but spotlessly clean. Staff like to have a laugh with you, very pleasant and cheerful. As far as cocktails go, I worked through the list, mud slides are amazing. The hotel is only a five minute drive into Bridgetown for shopping, remember to take a passport for duty free discounts in the stores, ( we forgot ours, so had to go again on another day) security walk up and down the beach, making sure you don’t get hassled, and there are plenty of sun beds on the beach. The pool is quite shallow and there are steps that if you don’t realise are there, can stub your toe, as I did. I would definitely return to this hotel, even if it’s just to people watch all the weddings on the beach!
