The Covid 19 pandemic has certainly impacted the Grand Hyatt. If you are looking for amenities, customer service and cleanliness... wait until all this passes. First, I was asked if we wanted maid service the next day of our visit? We said "yes" so we scheduled an 11am maid service . Maid service never happened. Let's move on. The pool was so cloudy and dirty we did not want to get into the pool. The maintenance person said the pool was just cleaned. Cleaned with what? There is no room service and when we called to get more towels no one answered to phone.

We got more than we bargained for. The hotel is it's own little nature preserve. The have their own boardwalk nature trail through the trees to the bay and a gazebo nestled near the water. While the foliage has grown up around the gazebo you can still get great views from the boardwalk. There is a separate villas area a short 5 minute walk from the main hotel. There you can walk out on the boardwalk and catch sunrise and sunset in the chairs at the end of the walkway. We saw so much beauty of nature. Unfortunately some things were closed because of precautions for the coronavirus. The hotel was always clean and the staff was super friendly and quick to take care of us. Two special members of the staff are Joseph and Ignacio. Both went above and beyond with a smile and genuine willingness to assist! Great stay!

Noisy, Pet Smells, and Infrastructure fall short of this brand's global standards

This is not your typical Grand Hyatt suitable for business travelers and high-end tourists. The hotel attracts mostly pet owners and "stay-cation" types who are getting away from home. However, they treat the property like they are still at home: churlish, boorish behavior around pool, loud conversations and alcoholic-fueled partying from lobby to guest floors and hallways (no sense of decorum). I've never seen this level of bad behavior in any Grand Hyatt worldwide. The property's management does not enforce any basic health and safety measures. Dogs amble about the property without leashes (pool, pool environs, walkways, and even lobby.) 95% of these are pets - not 'Service Animals' - since they are clearly untrained and they bark/whine in rooms at night. You'll also see breeds such as pit bulls making their way around the property - not confidence inspiring from a safety standpoint. Dog excrement litters the grassy area around the pool, so you will get unwanted whiffs of these pets during your stay - outside and also in your rooms depending on proximity and whether they put you in a room previously occupied by pets. The property's management does not enforce any rules about pool use, so you'll see 'guests' using the pool until 1:30 A.M. If you are anywhere below the 9th Floor, you will also hear the pool revelry noise at all hours of the night. They post a 10:00 p.m. closure time, but the property managers do not enforce the rule and acknowledge they permit anyone to use the pool at all hours. During the COVID period, mask use is not enforced in the common areas. Front Desk staff have supplies of masks to distribute, but none call attention to the Tampa Ordinance requiring masks and no Hyatt staff will correct anti-social (anti-ordinance) behaviors - even in the eating area of the main hotel. [Staff at Oystercatchers restaurant will stop guests in that restaurant from entering or walking around without masks.] Carpeting in rooms is filthy, desks, tables chairs are worn, and bathrooms are the original construction with shower curtains. Overall, the infrastructure is the 'original' construction and well overdue for an upgrade/renovation. The hotel employees are generally nice. However, with the exception of restaurant staff (waiters, waitresses), none of the hotel facility or operations management personnel project hotel sector-specific orientation. That is, their performance suggests they are just passing time in these positions. You cannot expect to meet anyone at this property whose performance reflects the standards of staffing you'll find at Grand Hyatt hotels in major cities in the U.S. or in other countries around the world. This is at best a 2 to 3-Star hotel. One mile down the Causeway towards Clearwater you can find a hotel built in 2019 which is vastly superior in every aspect - including the guests who stay there.

It was close to the airport , so i was skeptical. But WOW- what a diamond hotel here. Clean is not the word- sanitary and safe for my family. This resort reminds me of a hotel in Hawaii. The boardwalk through the property was enchanting. I would take me coffee to the end of the dock and see fish and even a manatee! I felt like I was in heaven- and escape from the daily chaos and commitment of home and work. We came to visit University of Tampa- located quite close. Our room was beyond beautiful. Unoccupied for at lest 48 hours prior to our arrival- It smelled and looked above and beyond sanitary. Remote control in sanitized bag and housekeeping upon request. Parking was so convenient and the parking attendant was so friendly. Self parking for sanitary reasoning was understood and appreciated. both pools were clean and perfect.

I was excited to visit the Grand Hyatt as I’ve been making my rounds at different hotels to assess the similarities and differences in quality, policy, and procedures during COVID-19. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted at the front door by a bellman who had on a mask. He opened the door for me and while this is always a nice touch it is especially a great touch right now because it was one less thing that I had to touch. I noticed that the bellman was opening doors for all guests which while small was one more point of great customer service that this Hyatt was doing to keep their guests safe. After I stepped into the lobby, I immediately saw a hand sanitizer station which I thought was placed appropriately for people to use right when they enter the building. As I approached the front desk, I noticed that all guests were wearing masks. I was informed that the hotel was doing their best to keep all normal activities and amenities as normal as possible. This meant I could look forward to daily housekeeping! Out of all of the properties that I’ve visited during this time this was the first hotel to offer this. The hotel also had social distancing markers on the floor to help encourage the guests to keep a safe distance. In the elevator there was a sign that requested that only 3 guests be in the elevator at one time. The pool and hot tub were open but there were occupancy limits to both the pool and hot tub to help keep safe distances. Once I arrived at the room there was a sign on the door notifying me that the room had been sanitized. Once I entered the room it was spotless from top to bottom. All stationery and pens had been removed. The remote had a plastic covering on it that informed the guest that it too had been sanitized. During my stay at the Hyatt I could tell the difference between a luxury property and midlevel and budget hotels. This property went above and beyond in their measure to keep their guests safe. I highly recommend that travelers select a luxury hotel for their stays during this period of COVID-19 if you want to feel extra safe and secure during your vacation. Steve showed amazing leadership as a manager during our entire stay. He was everywhere throughout the hotel helping out when needed. Josh made a great first impression at check-in and continued to provide excellent service throughout our stay. I can’t wait to return to Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay or any other Grand Hyatt, Andaz, or Hyatt Regency properties!
