Overall poor experience

Sunshine38728015898 on May 05, 2024

The customer service and general demeanor of the locals is poor to non-natives. The only thing Punta Cana has going for it in my opinion and my family's, is the beach and that is not enough to bring me back. I am of European background , Canadian and I have travelled to many places and generally speaking, I find that I was greeted with discrimination and disrespectful attitude and behavior by the hotel's staff I stayed at. Customer service should improve. For context, I got married and visited Jamaica a couple of times and it was fabulous, so I was expecting a great Caribbean experience and boy was I let down. In Greece, I know how we treat foreign visitors, going above and beyond to communicate with them, providing humble hospitality and we would never discriminate against guests the way my family was. Also, I am a licensed clinical counsellor and take equity, diversity and inclusion very seriously, this was not existent at my hotel. I also someone with a physical disability and this hotel. Our request to repair the damaged bed (it was damaged during the cleaning process) and it was never fixed after someone looked at it. My husband complained 3 times that I could not sleep on the mattress because it was too hard, I recently recovered from a back injury and have reduced mobility and therefore needed the extra bed to be fixed to avoid being re-injured. We moved things around to make it more comfortable for my situation but this was not restful at all. They came to examine it 40mins before we checked out on the last day of our stay, only because my husband left a bad review when the hotel asked for a survey and they wanted to check out the bed. There were so many other bad instances about this hotel as well (i.e. bathrooms were stocked up with towel, soap but cleaning the bathroom sink, toilet bowl - basically what you don't want to worry about on a trip) was not done. Even though we would tip between 5-2us dollars every day (it started to be less with each negative experience). I have used an app like Duo lingo in prep for the trip to try to speak Spanish (I also did this when I visited Spain and have taken Spanish in high school) but when we were not understood, we were asked to repeat ourselves, solely to be embarrassed because after our second try, EVERY TIME, they eventually switched to English. So they, knew that we are struggling but we are trying to communicated and they intentionally humiliated us. I should not be feeling like this, I don't deserve that, especially when we make all the effort possible to meet the Dominicans where they are at. My family's unwillingness to return has absolutely nothing to do with luxury hotel being requested or high expectations, it is basic human respect, collaboration and humility. Beyond unacceptable - things should change on this front and FAST as there are beautiful beaches everywhere in Europe, Jamaica etc and competition is fierce. I truly hope someone reads this review, notes the data and does something about this. Thank you.

Excellent food!

wevans100 (Syracuse, New York) on May 02, 2024

Late April is a great time to visit as it's the end of the season and not crowded! We had no trouble getting into Ala Carte restaurants and pools/beach were not crowded. I have been to Bahia Principe's in Mexico, Jamaica and Punta Cana and this resort had the BEST food I've ever had at an all-inclusive. Buffet food to restaurants...all of it very good. The Greek and Seafood restaurants both excellent, the Indian was pretty good but a little less than the other two we tried. Staff and accommodations were great. OH, but beware of the mosquitoes if you go at this time of year....I got eaten alive - bring the bug spray.
