Average review since the restaurants where much better two years ago when my family and I visited this same resort. And also having an all inclusive package and not having wifi included does not make sence.

We just arrived home from 2 weeks at El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel in Mazatlan- we travelled from Dec 2020 to Jan 2021. We arrived on the first direct flight from Canada to Mazatlan in months. We always book the elite all inclusive level (EAI), but stay in the Castilla so as to have easy access to the golf course. It is also possible to book rooms at El Cid Moro Beach Hotel (very nice rooms/suites) and the El Cid Granada Hotel (located across the street, but not beach front). Check in was simple and quick – EAI have dedicated access to the concierge lounge for check in, check out, and all bookings. I love using the concierge – it’s easy to book everything for your entire stay all at once. They will literally accommodate any reasonable guest request. Thanks again to Claudia, Alexis, Laura and Kira – you were all terrific! We played 10 rounds of golf in 14 days – the course is in fantastic shape, and keeps good pace. Tough play in places, but not so much that a novice golfer couldn’t enjoy it. Please keep in mind that you may not be able to leave clubs at the clubhouse – it will depend on their Covid regulations. Caddies are mandatory – we recommend Rudolfo & Ricardo. It’s amazing how they can read the greens and just know where the line is! They were very patient with our 12 year old & 8 year old, who were both playing their first real rounds of golf. Drinks & snacks are not included in the round, but Francisco brings the cart around regularly, and is always well stocked. Thanks to Sergio & Brent & Celso as well, for accommodating our bookings! For EAI guests, you have unlimited access to the seafood restaurant La Concha, as well as the other specialty restaurants, by reservation. The Japanese restaurant & the Steakhouse occupy the same space the golf clubhouse, but must be booked separately. Both have extensive menus, and we enjoyed our meals there. The Italian restaurant is on the mezzanine level of Castilla, and has a typical menu, as does the Mexican restaurant near the Moro Pool. While our food was good, they were the least favourite of the restaurants for us. Just a personal preference. The service was outstanding, as it was at all the restaurants. For Christmas Eve, the EAI guests had tables at the special dinner held at La Concha, but we had to confirm our table with the restaurant directly. There was a small charge of $20US per person, as this was a special meal, and it was worth it. Salad, soup, mains (choice of turkey or tenderloin), dessert, wine, & other beverages. The servers at La Concha are some of the best – Raymundo, Jesus, Jaime, Eulam and dining room manager Ulysses made each and every meal special. We ate at La Concha at least once a day, sometimes twice. The menu is extensive enough that you will never tire of the food. The soups are especially delicious. We also celebrated New Years Eve at La Concha. It was easy to confirm our table directly with the restaurant – the surcharge was $30US per person. But dinner was amazing!! Buffet style, but higher quality. Guests are not allowed to serve themselves, but staff are efficient at filling plates. Steaks, pastas, sushi, salads, veggies, desserts, bottles of wine – we ate until we were stuffed! Party hats & favours were much appreciated as well. EAI guests are also able to book reservations at La Terraza, which is located approximately 5 minutes away at El Cid Marina Beach Hotel. We ate twice here during our stay – our server Ricardo was exceptional. Our first meal was little odd, as it was Christmas Day, and I could tell right away that the kitchen was having trouble getting food out in a timely fashion. Two days later, it was a completely different experience – food came out promptly and was more to our expectations. El Patio is the restaurant located in the El Cid Grenada. It is currently only serving breakfast, but it is delicious. Hopefully, they will open for full meal services soon, as they are worth dining with. We did eat at the regular buffet for breakfasts, which always had a wide assortment of food available. The egg/omelet stations are especially good, and have bacon available there. In addition, there are more traditional Mexican breakfast items, plus pancakes, French toast, cereal, juices, coffee, etc. All the food at the buffet is served by the staff, but they are efficient and helpful. La Concha also serves breakfast for EAI guests. In addition to golfing and eating, we also took advantage of the massage special, and had massages at the Spa, located at the Golf & Country Club. Lydia and Cecylia were terrific – it was very relaxing and enjoyable. Our only excursion was a fishing trip that we booked with Jose Luis at the kiosk outside the buffet entrance. Our boys (12 & 8) wanted to try fishing, but we didn’t want an all day/deep sea trip, so Jose Luis arranged for a “bottom fishing” trip that lasted about 4-5 hours from the time they left the hotel until they returned. They caught a full bucket of fish, and the boys were thrilled. A special part was seeing 3 humpback whales! The boat captain was able to get fairly close within a safe distance, and the boys were beyond excited. The captain filleted the best of the catch for us, and the chef at La Concha was happy to cook it for us for dinner! We were treated to a gorgeous platter of fish, cooked 4 different ways, plus rice and veggies – what an amazing experience! A note about Covid regulations and hotel safety – the staff work very hard at cleaning all day long. Scrubbing elevators, stair railings, common touch areas, everything. There are compulsory temperature checks & hand sanitizer at every entrance and restaurant. Masks are required in all common areas of the hotel, including the elevators, and in restaurants until you are seated. The pool area also requires masks, unless you are in the pool, or eating pool side. Housekeeping staff are very diligent as well. We never felt at risk or exposed in any way. We always tip during our stay, and find it easier to tip in Pesos. American money is accepted as well, but prices & change will be provided in Pesos. You can break some larger bills at the cashier, but it can be difficult. Try to bring money in small bill denominations. There are no mini fridges in the rooms, but EAI guests have access to unlimited cold drinks in the concierge lounge, both alcoholic & non-alcoholic, as well as coffee & water. The ice machines have been removed due to Covid, so try to remember to get ice in your bucket at the restaurant or lobby lounge. When you first arrive, the time share staff will try to have you attend a presentation. If that’s not your thing, simply let them know in a polite manner, and they will leave you alone. Currently, the Moro Pool and the Grenada Pool are heated while the Castilla Pool is not, so people are mostly in those 2 pools. There are towel cabanas at the Moro and the Castilla, but the Moro often runs out of towels, so dip by the Castilla, as they may have some. The Kids Activity Club is located near the Castilla Pool, and kids may want to check out the list of activities over there. My boys did cake decorating, because they love to eat their creations. This was our second visit to the El Cid Mazatlan Resorts, and we will definitely be returning! What a fantastic vacation!

The hotel is very dirty and old. There was no hot water in the shower. It is super noisy. AC does not work properly. They charge for wifi and you must go out to the reception to purchase the code (yes we are in 2020)

    Not good enough

I really did not get the best service, I understand the Covid-19 situation, but there are so many deficiencies with the waiter service and there is unacceptable that we have to pay for the WIFI service, I mean, it´s obvious I will not use the WIFI service all day because I want to enjoy the beach and everything and when I want to use the WIFI connection, I have to pay for it, I already paid for the total service and is not cheap and I have to pay $10 usd additional dollars per day, really? Awful.
