So we just returned today and here’s my honest review. I’ll start with the good- The resort is completely beautiful. The room was amazing, we slept so good the whole time. We had a great view. We were preferred club in building 6. When we arrived we were greeted with cool towels and champagne, and lemonade and cookies for the kids. The staff is amazing, and they go above and beyond to accommodate as much as possible. They are constantly working around the resort also- landscaping, painting, cleaning, etc. The preferred lounge is a great perk. We hung out there most nights. They had a few specialty drinks they only made there, and in general we thought the drinks were better. We did two excursions- scuba diving and the dolphin swim. The scuba was great but unorganized. We loved the dolphin swim. I did negotiate the price a little, but they wouldn’t budge on the pictures unless you got one of the big packages and then they’d make you a “special offer”. I just got one individual picture and it was $40. We did a photo session with Daniel and he did a great job. I really wanted to get some of the colorful sunset pics and he delivered. There’s no session fee and you just pay for the shots you want (digital file). I believe they were $23 each. The ice cream shop was good. Breakfast at Maris was slow service but good. Room service was something we resorted to several times just to satisfy our appetite, but unfortunately it was cold and took an hour to arrive each time. Now the bad- I went to bed most nights starving. Believe the bad food reviews. For me, having good food is a HUGE factor of my vacation. I did not experience “good” food anywhere except for Fusion. The food quality can be compared to a cafeteria or a food court at an amusement part. The food is bland and just poor quality. If you think you’re gonna get Mexican food in Mexico, think again. I was hoping for fresh guacamole made in front of you and nachos and tacos. The nachos come covered in watery yellow cheese that looks like it’s out of a can. The guac is brown and also packaged. No tacos to be found except fish tacos at Maris for lunch- which unfortunately we didn’t get to try. We had clothes on top of swimsuits and just wanted to sit outside and eat lunch, but they said we were “wet” (we weren’t) and the dress code is for lunch- whether inside or out. And there’s no taking food to go allowed. Poolside lunch options- the very limited menu from Tides, which is frozen burgers, cheese quesadillas, the soupy afore- mentioned nachos, or a hot dog. The wrap/salad restaurant had two wrap options each day, which we tried but weren’t great. They also had fruit cups, and a suspect looking salad bar that I wasn’t brave enough to try. The best meal we had was hibachi at Fusion. I showed up at 3:30 and waited in line until 4:30 for our reservation. No complaints about the food there, we all enjoyed it. We ate at Gaucho twice. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t awful. The salad bar had some good side options. The meat was fatty, but we did find a couple things that were ok. The worst meal was Tres Colores. How ironic. I asked for shredded cheese and was brought a bowl of the soupy yellow goop again. The meat was tough and full of gristle- no flavor at all. I added a picture of the fajitas. Just meat and peppers and tiny little tortillas. No lettuce/guac/pico/rice came with it. We took a couple bites and left. The buffet is ok, but again not great. It worked to keep us from going hungry, but not what you want to eat while on a resort vacation. We missed out on trying Maris for dinner, because they were closed the night we planned to go. I couldn’t find menu pictures before we left, so helpfully someone will find these helpful. The gift shop is limited and very expensive. I think a hoodie that said Cancun was $69. The lazy river wasn’t great. It doesn’t push you along very much if that makes sense. And the floats are so large that you can’t touch the water when you’re in it to push yourself along. Before we left I read the bad food reviews and almost switched to a different resort. I wish we had in hindsight. I’m not overly picky and was not expecting 5 star, but honestly I would’ve been excited to see a golden coral after eating here for a few days. I enjoyed the resort itself, but the food was a deal breaker for me and I wouldn’t want to go back.

We were there in July for our family vacation and the staff was great, very attentive to all of our needs! We ate two nights at Fusion, teppanyaki grill, and had great service from Sergio and the 2 Roberto's during our visits. Martin, the restaurant manager was very engaging and friendly. It was a lot of fun!

The resort is excellent. I was disappointed by the numerous restaurant closing while we were there. I also thought they could use more servers in the pool area. The servers were a little over worked and had a hard time keeping up with demand. The service in the restaurants was excellent

First off, the resort, the staff, the amenities....great. But MEN if you want to eat an evening dinner INDOORS in October, (and you absolutely WILL because the mosquitos are horrible) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE LONG PANTS!! Dress code at all of the restaurants onsite requires it and there’s not much indication of that provided prior to arrival. I’m traveling from where it’s cold.....I want to be in shorts and didn’t bring a single pair of long pants along. Tried to have dinner at the Gaucho Grille tonight and had to get up and leave because of the mosquitos. The restaurant manager was completely unaccommodating to our request to be moved inside, all while there were plenty of open tables because I was in shorts. Short story, I really do highly recommend the resort but be sure you plan accordingly if you want to avoid being miserable during dinner in the evenings. Getting mauled by mosquitos is completely unavoidable and the staff doesn’t bend on their policies at all. To the Dreams staff......your resort is GREAT, and I mean that. But having a dress code at a family resort that requiring long pants is a little nuts. Collared shirt, sure. But your legs go under the table....just because someone wears long pants doesn’t mean they look nice or formal. Tonight I saw a guy with jeans that had holes all over them......he got to enjoy his dinner inside, away from the mosquitos.

    Everythings great but the food....

Gotta start this review by saying the service is impeccable. The employees are all so sweet and welcoming. The rooms are beautiful and nicely done with little features that we haven't seen at their competitor's resorts. We had an "oceanview room" which was on the backside of the property with a very distance view of the ocean. Not blaming them cause we got what we paid for technically but just felt that it was kindof a crappy situation. OK, lesson learned. My two major complaints ----> Food and Linen. 1. Food - This is the third Dreams property I've stayed at - I LOVE Dreams.... but i'm sad to say i was greatly disappointed by their food. Part of going on an all inclusive vacation is the food and Dreams just did not deliver here. The poolside Tides restaurant had barely edible nachos (watery cheese and never saw the sour cream they advertised) and the buffet had minimal variety and very little kid friendly items. Monte Cristos, friend plantains, spinach egg bite things. Not fun for the picky kid eaters. 2. Linen. Some pieces of my bedding swelled like dirty musty linen. I had to strip them off the bed. Most of the pool towels smelled the same. 3. Pool issues. On our last day there, TWO of the pools were closed for incidents. One child threw up the kids slide/play area the previous day and they waited to close it. They also closed the "mermaid pool" for something similar --- according to their lifeguard. GROSS. Some tips -- Bring bugspray - the mosquitoes are horrendous. Bring cash for tips. Sad how many people werent tipping these very hard workers! Bring a pool float. The pools are HUGE and there is definitely room for them.
