A quiet and relaxing spot in Negril

Jay P on May 04, 2024

The entire staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The property is so chill and relaxing. The treetop room was very clean, comfortable and we loved the balcony! The Chefs Showcase and Lotus Leaf served terrific food, and the beach area was relaxing with good food/drinks and great bartenders!

Superb beach

marklW3111YR (Norwich, United Kingdom) on May 02, 2024

First time in Jamaica and SATP. The treehouse style accommodation set in lush vegetation provides a welcome change to the usual pile of concrete at other resorts we have stayed in. This is a haven for all kinds of birds and have fond memories of feeding them from the balcony. Our room was away from the road and did show signs of wear and tear but it was clean and everything worked as it should do. The private beach is one of the best we have visited - lovely sand which gently shelves into the sea, and crystal clear water. There are fixed parasols on the beach but numbers are limited. During the first few days there was no problem in securing shade but towards the end of our stay it became necessary to pop down before breakfast to guarantee beds that had shade. Not something I am comfortable with but had no option. We are not fans of buffet style eating much preferring to be waited on so took the opportunity to book in advance the Lotus Leaf and Chef Showcase dinners . The food for both was excellent even though the service was a little chaotic at times. The buffet and breakfast options were good as was the quality - you won’t go hungry here. A nice touch is the Coffee bar which is open throughout the day. Entertainment is a hit and miss affair. The acts performing in the Pool bar area were mostly awful - and not helped by the poor sound system. The Piano bar has the resident pianist Paul playing there. When he is not singing it’s a great place to enjoy a drink. When he is singing - not so. My ears are still recovering from his rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. Needless to say it’s not hard to understand why both areas are virtually deserted after dinner. There is a guy who busks on the beach with a guitar and sings in the afternoon at the bar next door - head and shoulders above anything at the hotel. The number of people prepared to stay and listen to him showed what could be possible. The not so good bits: - smoking weed is legal so the smell is everywhere. - if you are not from a tipping culture you will experience a second rate service at times to those people that are - preference at the bar or reserved beds in the beach. I understand that staff will seek to enhance their regular pay but it shouldn’t be at the extent of prioritising some people over others. I have no doubt the management will respond to this comment by saying that it is not their policy or they are not aware of the problem. I would respectfully suggest that they undertake some observations to understand what is happening. There have been similar comments recently by other reviewers. Overall we did really enjoy our time at the SATP but don’t think there is enough here to bring us back - there are too many other places in the world to explore.
