This was by far the worst place we have gone to! Where do I start? We looked at all the reviews and youtube videos and thought it would be a great place to try. We now believe those video's where paid for. We looked at the negative reviews as well and thought how bad can the coffee be? VERY BAD! worst coffee I had in my life...doesn't Mexico grow coffee beans??? How hard can the beds be? Well...I would say a slab of cement with a sheet on top. Good thing we only stayed a week as I don't think I could handle a longer stay. Now the food...my goodness! The display looks good in the buffet but that's as far as it goes. Taste is another story- awful! We had to take what we thought was good then edit our plate to what was edible. The restaurants where just as terrible. Where are they getting their ingredients?? Might want to find a new source. My husband had to spit food out it was that bad and had me taste it - yuck. It was so bad we started laughing because it was unbelievable. To understand how bad the food was you would have to experience it for yourself. We had construction under our room the whole stay. We did not complain as we thought no point since other reviews mentioned that manager is never there and they help you when it's too late and time for you to go home. I can go on but read the negative reviews as they are the correct one's to read. The beach was nice.

We stayed at the Iberostar Tucan for 10 nights with our 2 year old and 10-month old and had a fantastic time. We all loved seeing the animals (Agoutis, Tucans, Monkeys, Coatis, Peacocks, etc) everyday. The superior standard rooms are nice, though could use with some updating. We personally found the bed very hard, though other than that the room was very comfortable and charming. We were on the ground floor which made it much easier for us with the kids. The pool area was a very short walk from our room and is absolutely beautiful. The resort grounds are very well taken care of. We didn't notice much seaweed on the beach so the staff must be doing a great job of removing it. Coming from Canada, we were rather shocked that smoking is allowed all throughout the resort, just not in the restaurants. Even so, there were smokers immediately outside the restaurants so we could smell the smoke from our table (no windows around the restaurants). There were even ashtray pits right next to the childrens' play areas. The food throughout the resort was pretty good. There isn't a huge variety in the buffet day-to-day so it got a little repetitive after 10 days, but it was always delicious. We really enjoyed the Bonsai specialty restaurant (teppanyaki) and La Gondola (Italian). If you're travelling with kids I would highly recommend bringing a stroller as the grounds are quite expansive. We ended up buying a cheap umbrella stroller at the local Wal-Mart because it was too hot to put the baby in our Ergo carrier. I unfortunately can't comment on the resort entertainment as all the shows were too late at night for us to keep the kids up. It would be nice if they occassionally had something earlier than 9:30pm for families. We found the staff all very friendly and our interactions with the conceriges very helpful. The only thing we didn't enjoy was them trying to coerce us into attending their "meeting" in return for resort credits. We initially advised them that we were not interested and yet were pestered about it once a day for the first 4 or 5 days. All in all it was a great trip and you certainly can't go wrong with an Iberostar.

This is the best resort I have ever been to, and I have been to quite a few. The beech was excellent and was cleaned daily. Rooms and service are superb. What impressed me the most was the variety of food. I have tried several new things at the buffet, which I have never tried before. Buffet was absolutely the best. We did not even go to a la carte at all. We travelled the group of 8 adults and 3 children. Everybody was satisfied with this trip, even planning to return. We had an excellent room 1105 - near the beech and the swimming pool. All in all, very satisfied, and happy to return to Iberostar. As always, Iberostar does not disappoint!

I would highly recommend this resort. It has a charm and service level which makes it greater than the sum of it's parts. Its got one or two issues which I'll go on to but recommend this hotel to everyone and plan to return whenever I'm back in Mexico. The rooms aren't great, they are a bit on the small side for Mexico and they could definitely do with a refurbishment. The resort is wonderfully sympathetic to the jungle setting and made it a feature. The grounds were immaculately kept with abundant semi-tame wildlife. The real highlights though were the main pool area and the beach. OMG that beach is truly stunning! The food is good for Mexico, head and shoulders above other resorts I've been too and the service was peerless. Downsides! The entertainment team pop up unfortunately during the day. When I was there, the clientele was mainly European or Canadian and generally 40+ with 1 or 2 families present. The entertainment team acted more like 18-30 reps trying to start parties which jarred a lot. The second gripe I had was that upon arrival, their reception actively pushes a sheet of coupons for in-hotel services. $25 of wine or $20 off washing services when you spend $40 on washing. Those sort of coupons. My friend arrived a week before myself and had availed himself of these offers and had been told by various staff that the coupons were all taken off at check out. You guessed it. None of them were, it was a scam which took the shine off an otherwise fantastic holiday.

Great resort on the Playacar beach, in the Riviera Maya. Food was great either at the buffet or in all the "A la carte" restaurants. Service all over the resort is exceptionnal. People working in Iberostar Tucan give the best service, always with a smile! Animation is great, not too much but friendly. Site is magnificient with the jungle and many different kind of animals (monkeys, coaties, tucans, peacoks, flamingos, agoutis). Beach and see were Perfect and clean. lots of chairs and space. Pools are clean. Close to Playa del Carmen. Best resort I visited and would go back anytime!
