Classic Grand Dame of a hotel - and a good value!

I scored a GREAT rate on Hotwire and was blown away when it was revealed my hotel was the classic Fairmont. This hotel is from another era - and yet once inside my room, it felt rather contemporary and comfortable. The service, decor, health club and indoor pool were all first rate. While the cardio and weights area are a bit small compared to some other luxury hotels, everything was immaculate and the steam room was REALLY nice. The location is perfect - right downtown and walking distance to most of the popular tourist attractions and streets. And since the property is SO BIG, with so many rooms, unless there's a convention in town - or the Stampede - You can get a great deal!

The Fairmont Palliser is on par with the Royal York in Toronto, the grand entrance with chandeliers, marble pillars, & Hawthorn Restaurant, 2 queen sized beds with a central location in down town Calgary was totally an amazing experience. The staff greeted you at the entrance outside & were most accommodating once inside also. There was a Starbucks on the lower level but we went to the buffet breakfast with such a variety of hot foods, fruit, yogurts, cereals - hot & cold, & beverages. We would go there again - it was a first class Hotel.

Pretty hotel but dated and expensive

The hotel is in a great location in downtown Calgary. Lobby is beautiful and staff friendly. Starbucks in lower level for breakfast but closes at 5pm. The air conditioning was very weak and my room temperature was 21degrees. Very little air circulation. I changed rooms and similar issues which makes me believe it’s a hotel issue. Restaurant is very expensive. Gym small for a luxury hotel. Pool looked amazing.

    Deceiving

The hotel in itself is gorgeous and is really well located. My room was regular. It gave on train tracks, which became really loud at night. Make sure to bring some ear plugs. The bed and pillows were very comfy. The room had a well filled mini-bar, but the fridge didn’t work. I had to ask twice before it got repaired. I attended the pool and the hot tub, which were nice, but really high in chlorine; it caused discolouration of my new bikini. The wifi isn’t included in the room price, but if you join their loyalty club, you will get it for free. Overall, my stay was deceiving for the price, and my expectations.

Stayed here for two nights. For the first night, I was assigned to an unrenovated room, which had a water leak stain on the wall and the shaving mirror light not working. But what made it more disappointing was the noise coming out of the next door room until 4:30 am. I requested to be relocated to another room for the second night and I was relocated to a renovated room (begs the question why I wasn't provided with a renovated room in the first place). The staff moved my bag as I was out the whole day. Everything was functioning well in this room - and I had a restful second night. You have to request for a hard copy of the newspaper if you want one - as they are trying to direct everyone to go use press reader.
