An adult hotel was a great way to vacay!!

Rhonda C on Apr 12, 2024

Absolutely loved my stay at this hotel. We just took a taxi from the airport which cost $22 and was a 10 min ride. We stayed using points from our timeshare(plus cash for upgrade) so we were considered Bonvoy Gold Elite members. We were given complementary internet in all areas, $50 worth of international calls from our room, 2 large complimentary bottles of water each day, 10% food and beverages purchased at the resorts restaurants, 10% off the spa and $25 free slot play at the casino. We were also offered a late check out if needed. We stayed at the Marina hotel which was adult only and it was fabulous. The rooms are newly remodeled and very large. Although the room did not have a full balcony, it did have a glass door you could open for fresh air with a "french balcony". The bed was super comfy and the room had a small refrig and coffee maker. It was the kind of coffee maker that has the pod and filter that gets replaced each time(will include pic). The staff gives you more each time they clean the room but we brought our own coffee and folded filters which worked fine. The water here is drinkable and actually quite good so no concerns there. They also leave you little gifts on your pillow each evening. We always got 2 chocolates and a sticker. Once they even left a sample of the Aruba Aloe sunscreen which was great!! There's a store on the lower level that sells it and many more products! Speaking of stores, there are plenty! There are high end stores there at the marina hotel. Across the street is the Renaissance Market which has many stores and restaurants. The pancake house is fantastic and has the best breakfast deal(Seaport breakfast has 2 eggs scrambles with baon, sausage or fresh fruit, toast and poffertjes(mini pancakes) and hash browns for $14), Casa Tua had really good pizza. Other restaurants included 5 oclock somewhere, Cuba's cooking, Kalins Mexican, Cafe de Plaza, dunkin donuts, starbucks, haagan daz and more. Our favorite was Pizza Italia which was not located in the more tourist area but in a neighborhood. It is owned by an italian chef that loves to bake bread. He has a fresh herb garden or his front stoop and makes his dough fresh daily. It was perfecto!! Best excursion was the ultimate jeep tour with ABC tours. It was an all day event that took you all over the island! Also make sure to use the map I included and hit San Nicolas to see all the art murals! They are beautiful!! We rented a car from Hertz and it it located in the Renaissance suites lobby. Self parking is free but the lots fill up and sometimes you have to ride around waiting on a space. We used our American express card so it covered the insurance(chk with your credit card about that). The hotel does have a rather steep activity fee of $65/day but when you consider you get daily access to a private island and a free water taxi to get there....it's not so bad. The island is beautiful. Forget trying to get one of the huts they rent. I tried booking one 6 months in advance and couldn't. They do have some palapas available if you get there early. I was also under the impression that the flamingos were only on the adult side of the island. Actually they are able to roam about as they please. The island never seemed crowded. I would definitely bring water shoes especially on the flamingo side because it is a little rocky getting in and out of the water. And although it said drinks weren't allowed on the island, no one said anything about us brining our water bottle or coffee on the water taxi. Also no one checks bags or anything. Bring quarters to buy food for the flamingos which by the way the fish love too. We had 2 fish that followed us around when we got in the water looking for snacks! We got "travel pass" with our verizon phone and were able to use it almost everywhere. I did get several text from the local excursion companies on my whats app about confirmations and such so it can be used as well. We were able to use google maps most of the time. Or you can use waze app to get around. I would also suggest checking with your health insurance about coverage. Our BCBS doesn't cover in Aruba but we purchased travel insurance that covered trip and health to be on the safe side. I read alot of reviews about mosquitos but we didn't have an issue while we were there. We did have a lot of wind so forget having good hair days...it's not happening!! We were pleasantly surprised that leaving on a Tues meant short lines at the airport. We got there 3 hours early and made it through the whole process in a little over an hour. We also completed our global entry interview at this location to make it faster in the future but there weren't long lines at customs anyway. Sorry if I jumped around but there was a lot I wanted to commit on. All in all, it was a fabulous trip at a fabulous location!!

Happiness on a day of unhappiness on that One Happy Island.

Anthony K (Livingston, New Jersey) on Apr 12, 2024

Santusha, our hostess at the Fresco Aruba restaurant, salvaged a nerve-racking evening. Our flight was canceled, and we were sent to the Renaissance Hotel. After a miserable eight hours in the airport and an antsy stay at the hotel, wondering when our flight would be rescheduled, Santusha and the staff at the Fresco Aruba were warm, funny, and assuaged our anxieties for the day.
