Wonderful waves

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 week stay in 2 x ground floor ocean view rooms, large and spacious with tv, kettle/coffee facilities, iron, fridge, super comfy beds, plenty of wardrobe/drawer storage and outside area with table/chairs. Breakfast and lunch were buffet with evening meal being varied between shiso (pan Asian a la carte) and seascape(set menu of which you could select 3 courses) seascape changed to buffet Mondays & Thursday evenings. Food has been delicious and plentiful. We were given a printout each morning of the hotels activities/weather etc that day which is a lovely touch (see photos). This is also a spa hotel and for a two week stay you receive 3 x 30min complimentary treatments which were wonderful ! Family pool is small but adults only pool area is large and although just across the road tucked away amongst trees and is very peaceful with wonderful staff keeping drinks flowing and ice lollies coming. The beach is small with a slight step in the sand (possibly still from recent storm) entering the sea but it’s calm crystal clear water and good for snorkelling there is a roped off safe area. Also included in your stay are non motorised water sports so sail boat, tubing, water skiing/boarding aswell as snorkelling gear. Staff at the beach supplying drinks/fruit/ice lollies, the service around the pool and at the beach has been fab. One of many benefits of this being a smaller hotel far more attentive service. We hired a car for a day which concierge arranged for us along with various other trips. Wildlife is abundant green monkeys, humming birds, bats etc with the odd turtle, lots of fish, octopus in the waters. Staff know you by name within a day or two and are all so friendly and helpful and genuinely interesting you having the best stay.
Great staff, nice food, not the most family oriented

Amazing and friendly staff, who make your stay feel extra comfortable (apart from one of the chef’s who was usually cooking the omelettes in a morning and occasionally on the outdoor food cart, she was pretty rude). Family pool very small but we actually liked it as we had it to ourselves most mornings, although the view wasn’t great (looking at four walls) and the sound of the traffic from the road side. Beach was small but beautiful. Drinks can be ordered from the beach, which is really convenient. Please be careful of the steps down to the beach, I missed the shorter step and sprained my ankle! Food was really tasty but please be aware that there is no air conditioning other than in your rooms, due to the hotel being open air. So during the summer, dinner time and evening can be very hot and stuffy. Some of the over head fans weren’t working also. Water taxi to Coral Bay hotel was great. We spent a lot of time there as the pools are all family pools. We also took the reggae bus to Turtle Beach hotel, which was also really nice and family oriented. If wanting to do an island tour, please ask the beach guys for SAM THE MAN. We had the most incredible private tour with the most incredible man on the island. Fairly priced too. Great hotel, we LOVED Barbados and everyone there. Planning to return to Barbados but would probably book a hotel with more of a family friendly pool.
The best hotel we have ever stayed at

We returned to the U.K. from a 2 week stay at Waves a week ago. All the great things we read about this hotel before we went were true, and more. It exceeded our expectations and has totally spoilt us for any other holiday we take in future, because nowhere will live up to the level of service we received from Waves. Right from check in - no queuing at a desk - no, no - instead we were invited to sit on some comfy seats and each given a cocktail while the admin was done. From the very moment we arrived, and Shalia sorted out our check in, we were made to feel very special indeed. We are a family of 5 (3 adult children) and we had 2 rooms in the side next to the beach. We didn’t have a sea view but for how much time we spent in the room it didn’t matter. The rooms were huge and had everything we needed, apart from access to electrical sockets. However, this was easily resolved by borrowing an extension cable from housekeeping. The most comfortable beds, huge walk in shower, plenty of storage. The cleanliness is outstanding. The custodians and housekeepers are constantly attending to the cleanliness of all of the hotel. Even to the point where they were cleaning oil patches from the pick up/drop off bay in front of the reception. Our housekeeper, Merica, was so attentive, working out our usual schedule for breakfast/going out so our rooms could be serviced while we were out. She was so lovely, providing extra towels etc when needed. And the rooms were properly cleaned every single day of our stay. The management team made a point of introducing themselves near the start of our stay. This was very helpful when one of our daughters misplaced her bag, but Paul (security and loss prevention ) was incredibly helpful and assisted in finding it. There is even a welcome party on a Thursday evening to mingle with other guests and staff. It is because of the way the staff get to know you so quickly and well that there is no need for wristbands at this hotel (thank goodness!) Service - I don’t even know where to start with saying how amazing this is. Every single staff member we met without fail could not be any more helpful or friendly. I wish I had made a note of everybody’s name, because genuinely, every person who works at the hotel deserves a mention. In particular: Kenrick makes the most amazing cocktails (cocktails are hand mixed, not pre-mixed); Antwone is just so attentive - taking drinks orders, bringing drinks to you, helping with the mixology class, just putting a smile on your face; Ether who does the omelettes and eggs at breakfast with her fabulous smile and jolly exuberance; Astrid on front desk who makes it seem like nothing is a problem and is just so lovely - even calling on check out day to make sure the stay has gone well; Cliffeana who seems to do all the jobs, efficiently and in such a friendly way; All of the pool and beach ambassadors are amazing, but Pamela is just so lovely (and often brings 2 cocktails at a time!), and Tito and Troy could not have been more helpful; Jared from security was so friendly and again, remembering us and our names; Shermarque from the bar who was so kind throughout our stay, also making delicious cocktails; Jennifer P from the restaurant who brought endless freshly cooked burgers for our son and had such a laugh with him; Kevin from concierge who was so organised with booking of trips and so energetic as quiz master. We have never stayed anywhere like this anywhere in the world. We asked our taxi driver on our way to the hotel from the airport for his number, and he said he never heard from guests of Waves because they have everything they need at the hotel. And he was right. We felt a little guilty at not getting out and seeing more of the island. We did do a couple of trips organised by the hotel (Oistins and the Mount Gay tour), and we caught the bus to Holetown a couple of times (Sunday night at One Love is a brilliant street party). But we just loved the activities the hotel put on, day and night. I really enjoyed the yoga and Pilates classes on the sundeck. Huge thank you to Keri and Taneesha for getting me mobile again, and for inspiring me to take up a class now I am back in the U.K. to keep working on improving my flexibility. There is also a small gym with a few cardio machines, a bench and a full selection of free weights. There is no cable weight machine though (which would be a great addition to the gym). We did a trip over by water taxi to the sister hotel, Crystal Cove, and enjoyed some cocktails at the swim up bar there, and lunch in one of their restaurants. We also took advantage of the included water sports at our hotel (my son learnt to water ski, my daughter learnt to paddle board). The pool across the road in the adult only part of the hotel was magnificent. Never a problem getting a sunbed, plenty of towels, regular drinks service, and fresh fruit and ice lollies. It is also where the spa is where you have a complimentary treatment per adult per week of your stay. We enjoyed our treatments from Stacey, Tonia, and Rea. The food was delicious. We mostly ate at seascape, and had two meals across at Shiso (the Asian fusion restaurant). All of the food was delicious, with amazing service (and proper linen napkins!). I would just say, though, be careful if you have a bird phobia. Seascape is open sided and at breakfast and lunch birds were regular visitors claiming any titbits left on plates on tables. I would say, the pool for families with children looked a little small (we didn’t go to it but walked past it in our way to/from our bedrooms), but obviously there is plenty of room on the beach. And the sister hotel, Crystal Cove, is family friendly with lots of themed pools, a great beach and the same water sports facilities, and a regular daytime water taxi over there. You might want beach shoes for getting in/out of the sea as there was quite a lot of coral/stones at the shore line. We were glad we had taken plenty of smaller denomination notes so we could tip staff as we went along. Though we still felt we hadn’t tipped everybody so added a tip to our room bill at the end to be distributed across all departments. I could go on and on about how fantastic our holiday was at Waves. It was so much better than we ever anticipated. If you are going on holiday to this hotel you are in for a real treat. We will definitely be returning.
Two Weeks of Paradise

We had the most wonderful stay at Waves Hotel and Spa and we made fabulous memories during our two weeks in and around the hotel. Waves Hotel and Spa is by far and away the best hotel I have stayed in due to the friendly yet highly professional and attentive service. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and we were made to feel welcome no matter where we were in the hotel. As soon as we arrived and were greeted by the wonderful Ashani at Reception, we knew that we were in a special place. The main hotel itself and the location are just perfect with magnificent views of the ocean from almost every aspect of the hotel and the Adults Only area where the pool and Spa are located is just an oasis of tranquillity. The complimentary Spa treatments are a very nice gesture from the hotel, and we also booked additional treatments in the Spa which were amazing. We always treat ourselves to Spa treatments when we go on holiday and the massages we were given by Stacy, Jalisa and Tonya were probably the best we’ve ever had. As for the pool, we had many relaxing afternoons sunbathing and dipping in the large pool and the best thing of all was Pamela, the Pool Ambassador, who was unwavering in her commitment to providing us with drinks and lots of fun. Alecia and Ebony were also wonderful Pool Ambassadors and did a great job too! While I am talking about wellness, I have to compliment those involved in the whole concept behind making this hotel focus on wellness and wellbeing as it felt to us that these values appeared in much of what the hotel offered; daily healthy drink options, titbits of wellbeing advice, yoga, pilates amongst other things. In addition to this, all of the staff at the hotel are so attentive and friendly that it is nigh on impossible to not feel relaxed at the hotel. The hotel is beautifully designed and very chic. There are lots of areas to sit and relax while watching the magnificent sunsets. We had an Ocean View room and it was perfect for us with everything we needed. The room was cleaned regularly to a very high standard and Caudia and the team did a great job of ensuring our comfort in the room. The hospitality experience at the bar, Seascape and Shiso restaurants and Kyma coffee bar were superb. The food in the restaurants and café was always delicious and varied and not once did we feel like we were running out of options and in fact, we were pretty much always spoilt for choice. The ‘à la carte’ dining experiences were extremely pleasant, and it was such a nice option to have in an All-Inclusive hotel. The hospitality is an aspect of our stay at the hotel where I feel I will not be able to do justice to the hard work, friendliness and professionalism of every single member of staff involved in these areas of the hotel. At the end of this review I will add a note with the names of some of the members of staff we managed to get but I would like to acknowledge every single member of the hospitality team that we encountered during our two weeks, their constant positivity, friendliness and attentiveness was a pure joy for us. We were really impressed with the variety of activities on offer at the hotel, especially the beachside activities which were great fun. The beach area is great with plenty of sunbeds and again, the Beach Ambassadors keep you relaxed and hydrated. In the evenings, live music entertainment was provided and I thought that this low-key entertainment was pitched perfectly to suit the relaxed and chilled hotel vibe. All of the singers and bands were excellent and very talented and we particularly enjoyed the amazing vocals of Aura band and the fun evening they created. We met so many different members of staff in and around the hotel, be it at Reception, in the restaurants and at the bar, on the beach, cleaning staff, gardeners, lobby attendants and so on, but I can say with all honesty that every single one of them is an asset to the hotel. They were all so wonderful! Lastly, I can’t leave this review of our wonderful experience at the hotel without mentioning the island itself. I think the most memorable aspect of my holiday will be the friendliness and the joyous nature of not only the staff at the hotel but also of all the people we met while out and about on the island. Happiness really is infectious! (Additional mention goes to the following; Ether and Cherie at the Breakfast area who were such fun and just the tonic first thing in the morning, the bar staff Sharmake, Kenny and Jabeera and all their colleagues who were all amazing, Rhea in the Spa, Astrid and Tiara who were wonderful on Reception, Kerri the pilates instructor who provided great sessions, the lovely Sharisa and Valerie and all of the restaurant hosts, and the General Manager who took the time to check in regularly with guests and Tanya from Daytrip who showed us around the beautiful island.)
Very disappointed

As Lifetime Titanium for the past 20 years, I've never written a bad review ever. But I felt it was important because we were just so disappointed and sad after looking forward to our first adults only trip since getting married 10 years ago. This was to be a 10th anniversary and birthday trip, adults only while our daughter was at sleepover camp. We originally booked Treasure Beach in a fabulous room and were so excited about the resort, and the opportunity to dine around to the other resorts. A short time before our trip we got an email saying that TB won't be opened yet after renovations and they can offer us Waves. Seeing that it was not adults only, a lower class experience and further from Holetown and the places we were going for golf (Sandy Bay) and dinner (QP Bistro, etc) we told them that we would only accept a change if they upgraded our room to something great, ideally ocean view suite. They said that given the inconvenience and that it was a special trip for a Titanium lifetime member, this should be very doable. So we agreed. Closer to the day, they reached out to see if they could help us. Again we asked about the upgrade and they said it's been noted and they are working on it. At this point we could still cancel. In the meantime this wonderful concierge named Kevin helped us with golf bookings and dinner and transportation. He was WONDERFUL. When we arrived we were greeted nicely by the person takin gout luggage and that's where it all fell apart. We were told to sit in the lounge, have a drink, were given a clip board and we sat there for 45 mins... no one talked to us or told us what was going on. When asked what was happening, the woman at the desk was very rude. So we decided to get a drink at the bar. Aren't bartenders supposed to be friendly? Wait, isn't Barbados supposed to be a friendly island? Well, no. They acted like we were bothering them almost the entire trip. I literally felt guilty for bothering them every time I asked for a drink, Finally our room was ready they said and we were walked across the street up steep stairs to a pool room. it was fine, but the door stuck and slamed and the light in the hallway stayed on all night and glared inside the room. We asked again about our upgrade to ocean view and they said they are still working on a switch. Ok. So we go to the beach, get drinks, go to the little cafe, eat dinner, etc and almost every person we encountered looked like they were having the worst day ever and hated their job. The night of my husbands birthday I asked a week ahead to do something special. When we finished eating I asked about a cake and signing, They said hang on. An hour later when the restaurant was empty and the dessert buffet was cleaned out, they took the last piece of cake on the buffet, added some chocolate drizzle and came out and sang to him. Sigh..... The next night for our anniversary we ate off the resort at QP Bistro and had a fantastic time! They really took care of us. The only place open to water taxi to was Crystal Cove. We went over, had a drink and came right back. It was soooo dirty! The one great experience was the Spa. Stacey and Rhia(sp) were wonderful and I highly recommend using the spa certificates. The adult section wouldn't have been so bad but the pool was closed after 7pm every night. Adults like to swim at night so this was a total bummer. Overall I do not recommend or at least lower your expectations if you book Waves.
