A little piece of paradise - with amazing staff!

Veritydepp (London, United Kingdom) on Mar 04, 2026

Having been to Barbados several times in the last 29 years, we have seen a lot of the island and stayed in different locations. This one was particularly good. We liked the fact that the hotel isn't too big and therefore feels familiar and relaxed. We had a large ocean-view room which was well-equipped, tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable - the spacial balcony offered views of the ocean and picturesque sunsets. But the best thing about the whole resort was its staff - they were absolutely wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. We return again and again because the people are so special..... Special thanks to ASHANTI on reception who looked after our every need, together with colleagues, ANTWONE, DEVON and SHERMARKE, amongst others. You guys are the absolute best - thank you, thank you :)) "Everytin' is Irie"!!

Marriot have ruined this once lovely hotel

SLPER72 (United Kingdom) on Mar 02, 2026

So gutted to be honest, I reviewed this hotel 2 years ago as we absolutely loved it , hence why we went back. Sadly this time a completely different experience , Marriott have got their claws well and truly into this place and it’s gone downhill. I will add , the staff are lovely, it’s not their fault , and it was lovely to see some familiar faces like , Jaqueline, Jennifer and Kevan and the tall young fella with dreads behind the bar. And the rooms are beautiful, we had a fantastic 2 story room so no complaints there First, the food , it’s a huge nope from us, it used to be really very nice, we were dissapointed that the pan asain which was very good had now become a not very good ‘Indian’ , the buffet in seascape was below par this time, breakfast is the only decent meal. The beach, awful, usually red flag , some days 8 sunbeds is all that’s put out as it’s tiny, and tbh the rubbish at the back and sides quite frankly make it an eyesore. Pools- this was a huge big are, we have our 13 yr old with us so unable to use the adult only pool which is huge and beautiful looking, but over 17 years olds only allowed, this means you only have the small that I describe as a city pool to use, there are 8 sunbeds around that unless you want to be in the shade in a cabana , these 8 sunbeds are taken up by 70 year olds with no kids by 8am, so then you get no where to sit if you have kids ! The water taxi only runs when the water is flat so you try that, only to be told the other hotels in the chain are fully booked, we did have a moan and managed to get into crystal cove. We are told that colony club would not take us, we had been there on the water taxi 2 years previously so we just went, and we got a lovely sunbed around the pool , and had all food and drinks there with no issues, very odd. In conclusion- the hotel is great for older people who are happy to sit in balcony with a book, it’s boring , average age of clients is 72 years old I’d say It’s not family friendly, needs making into an adults only , the false advertising is shocking, Marriott have well and truly ruined this hotel , the staff do their best so it’s sad to see. Sadly we won’t be returning

Vastly overpriced. Very suspicious of glowing reviews here on TA

Roger D (Belfast, United Kingdom) on Mar 01, 2026

A misbranding error by Marriott. To put this hotel in the same category as The Shelbourne in Dublin is like putting a mini beside a Rolls Royce. Waves is vastly overpriced at the level of a 5 star resort with a 2-3 start product. £825 a day for 2 of us. Ended up spending considerably more on external restaurants due to the “canteen” at waves being so poor. Very budget feel from grumpy staff (a few notable exceptions), very, very low quality food, no beach due to very slight swells and 2 small pools with limited sun loungers. Ability to visit sister properties not a luxury, it’s an essential. Went to Crystal Cove and Colony club for facilities and food.

“Disappointing experience – Important details not disclosed”

barbiruzka (Asuncion, Paraguay) on Feb 11, 2026

Disappointing experience – Important details not disclosed” The experience was disappointing. The beach is extremely small, much different from what the photos suggest. Access to the beach is only via stairs, with no ramp or accessible alternative. This is not suitable for elderly guests or those with mobility limitations, and it is not clearly disclosed. Additionally, the hotel does not specify that the property is divided into two blocks. If you are assigned to the rear block, you must cross a street to reach the beach and main facilities. For the price paid, I expected much greater transparency. I would not recommend this hotel to senior travelers or guests who value easy beach access.
