Cozumel reset

Rod W on May 29, 2026

Just the ticket if your goal is to unwind and relax. Circe and Diego made sure we were comfortable and well hydrated on the beach, and Gerardo made sure any concerns we had were addressed, and kept us well-informed.

Had a wonderful time at Melia Cozumel. The staff and service were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the family pool. The activities at poolside were great.

Nice smaller hotel with great staff!

pgast5 (Kansas City) on May 19, 2026

Great Hotel. The staff are amazing. So friendly. The rooms were clean and functional and had a stocked refrigerator that was replenished every day. There were 10 glass bottles of water provided each day and the cleaning service was fantastic. They are a little older but we didn't care because they were clean, cool and comfortable for us. The kids' pool was great (we had a baby with us) and we actually enjoyed hanging out there. The adult pool was very empty and was playing jazz music the one day we visited. It did have a swim up bar with a few people at it. The deep end is DEEP so no socializing in shallower water on that side, but there was a small "island" closer to the swim up bar for maybe 2-4 people. The game room downstairs was great (very cool temps) with a ping pong table and 2 pool tables (that had seen better days, but were fine for our skill level!) and a pop a shot (that no longer kept score - again a good thing for our skill level). Beach was great with very soft fine sand. Never had a problem getting 6 chairs for our family and close proximity to the snack shack (yummy chicken quesadillas) and the bar. The food choices were limited to the snack shack by the beach (around 11 am) and the buffet (8am) also near the beach/kids' pool area and the coffee/ice cream bar near the kids' pool ( 8'ish am). The buffet had themes for the evening and would close between shifts temporarily to setup so timing was something to be aware of... nothing major maybe 30 minutes. The other two restaurants required reservations and I would recommend scheduling when you arrive. The experiences at the reserved restaurants were nice with a 3 course meal, drinks and more upscale feel, but still fun. It was enjoyable and I would recommend at least trying one. There were a few items at the buffet that didn't quite hit (chicken nuggets!), but every time we were still able to find plenty to satisfy. There's mini-golf and shuffleboard, tennis and pickle ball which were fun in the evening or earlier morning. You will bake at the shuffle board any other time! We did see a large ray while snorkeling but not much else to see in the swim area of the hotel. We ventured down to the spit by the Cozumeleno Hotel and found some more colorful fish which was nice. We were told by our server at the buffet that they are starting renovations in August, so things will be changing! We would definitely go back again. It was just the right size for our family with a baby and met all the needs we had for entertainment, athletics, games and the staff was amazing!

Deceived

68lserrano (Austin, Texas) on May 08, 2026

We chose Melia Cozumel because it is on the west side of the island and that was supposed to imply no seaweed on the beach. Melia e-mailed us to prepare details for our trip (e.g. occasion, which was our wedding anniversary), knowingly that the beach was covered with seaweed. Worst of all, they had the nerve to offer us a "romanticDinner on the beach", for a cost of course. So, we arrived at the hotel and, surprise, the beach was covered with a 1.5 m barrier of seaweed and the sea water looking sewer brown. I decided to cancel right away risking the penalty. Melia management graciously waived the penalty and we started the search for a new hotel. After 4.5 hours of stress, frustration and $200 in taxi fare, we found accommodation at a 30% more expensive rate, with crystal clear water and no weed. I wrote Melia International to report the experience and request the cab and over price for the new hotel, and their answer was negative. Frustrated again.

bbharke (Markesan, WI) on May 08, 2026

Another great stay at Melia our 7th stay there an excellent trip everybody is always so friendly room was always clean and the food was good for breakfast we usually went out for dinner but can always find something to eat at the buffet. We came to Cozumel twice in 2025 and once so far this year just hoping they don’t change to much when they change to ZEL
