Camping Conditions with pot luck second rate food.

GoPlaces100221 on Mar 28, 2026

Terrible food, musky hotel room with no air conditioning for 2 full days, my partner lost weight , due to no suitable meals. Nice beach. Spent one evening walling from lounge and smoke pit through 30cm of sewer/run off water. Days of smelling sulfur from seagrass on beach...another nasty smell to deal with.

Another fabulous stay!!

brenner61 (Detroit Lakes, Minnesota) on Mar 27, 2026

We have just returned from another fabulous stay at the Meliá. If you are looking for a smaller clean resort with fabulous staff this resort is perfect for you. We have stayed here many, many times and have always been very happy. We saw some nice improvements in the buffet area with a larger variety of options and the food was always hot which can be an issue at some AI’s. We always upgrade to The Level service and are so thankful we did that again. Huge thank you to Alfonso, our Level concierge who took care of us each and every day. A special shout out to Diego our Pool Concierge who never let my margaritas run dry. This old lady appreciates you!! Eduardo, it was a pleasure visiting with you and hope to see you again in the future. We will definitely be back!!

Family vacation

wilding2026 (Muskoka Lakes, Canada) on Mar 25, 2026

Family vacation with 5 adults and 2 children We booked months ahead and upgraded at a good price to the Level. We believe it was worth the extra $. Rooms are Ocean front with a beautiful view! Our online request for a higher floor and rooms beside each other was granted. Concierge Oscar showed us to our rooms and then checked in by text or WhatsApp often to see if we needed assistance. The rooms were spacious, well appointed and beds were comfortable. Mini bar filled daily with beer, pop, water and snacks. Private beach area with Bali beds and beach service. Food: we did not try all of the a la carte restaurants. But, did have dinner at the Mexican- tacos, soup, rice pudding. Just ok, not bad. Staff friendly and courteous. Grandkids loved the Ice cream bar at the kids pool. Had lunch at the Mole- good “pub fare” and staff very friendly. Dinner there was also good. We ate most meals at the Buffet restaurant. The resort is small, under 200 rooms, so the variety of food is not large. But, we always found something we liked and have no complaints at all. All staff were friendly, helpful and courteous at the Buffet. By far our favourite though, was Lupe. He is very friendly, and so efficient! A great asset to this resort. Most all of the employees at The Melia were very friendly, courteous and helpful. Ivan, Diego & Alejandro we thank you. As well as so many others! Activities at the Resort were not posted daily and we did miss out on some we would have liked to do. We played mini golf, joined in dance exercises and took out the kayaks. For off sight excursions, we did a snorkelling excursion and we all really enjoyed it. Thanks to the captain and Ruben- our snorkel guide, who took great care to help our 7 year old granddaughter as it was her first time snorkelling. We saw colourful fish, lobster, octopus, sea turtle, nurse shark and many sting rays. Fishing trip was also a great adventure for our 10 year old grandson who loves to fish. He caught many and it was a highlight of the trip for him. The beach does have seaweed on windy days and the water becomes murky. It was not like that every day however. A short walk next door to the El Cozumeleno has the blue, clear water with many fish to see. Although the beach there is rocky. Melia beach is much nicer and cleaner. Unfortunately we did have a fair bit of rain, 2 days of short lived hard rain and then a day and half of torrential all day rain and very high winds. The buffet roof leaked, water pooling on the floor was an issue as well as in the underground areas including games room. We understand upgrades are coming and perhaps a whole overhaul and name change. We really enjoyed our stay at the Melia and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. Cozumel is beautiful and the grandchildren have decided we should go every year!

Hard. Pass.

Trevor E on Mar 24, 2026

Good: The staff was pleasant. I felt like they were kind humans. The location was relatively close to the airport (15 minutes) and downtown at about the same time, which was nice! The noise level during the evening is very quiet. My wife and I never had any issues with rowdy guests in the evening. This is a family resort, and it feels that way. Bad: Cleanliness could have been better. I would not describe the room as dirty, but given its age, it felt dirty. Maybe that is unfair. The rooms are DATED. For sure felt like I was in a 2010 hotel. Lots of wood on white furniture.A large amount of wear and tear in the room as well. The bed was super springy, and by the end of the week,k my back was shot. Most of the staff does not speak English, and I don't speak Spanish, and there were times the language barrier was present. I do NOT expect them to know perfect English; however, compared to other resorts we've stayed at in Mexico, I felt like it was very present here. Ugly: The first night we got there, the power was out in the entire building we were staying in. No explanation and no word on when it would come back on. Thankfully, it was in the evening,g so it was cool and it was only about 45 minutes. The next day, it was also out for an indiscriminate time during the day. The food was absolutely abysmal. One step above cold, thinking about being warm. Buffet style with two* other restaurants: Mexican and seafood. They also had a taco "restaurant" that was first come first serve which we tried. Our experience was the same here, too. We tried the Mexican food late into our stay, not confident in the quality at that point, and to no one's ssurprisee it was the same quality as the buffet. We have lived in Arizona for the last 8 years, and I have had better Mexican food here. I am sure I can find more, but TL;DR: I would never recommend this place to anyone I actually care about.
